Oh yeah! Mi è capitata una camera davvero bella! La foto qui sopra è la vera foto. La tv non è gigante, ma è hd ready e per la prima volta sono riuscito a giocare con la mia Xbox 360 con i cavi component, quelli rosso verde blu per l'hd. Non vi dico com'è giocare a GTA IV in hd! Poi ho scoperto che ci sono due prese ethernet, e una di quelle funziona! Appena l'ho connessa col pc via cavo ho iniziato ad avere i primi problemi. Skype e MSN sono partiti subito, mentre Firefox e IE7 non aprivano nessun sito, rimandandomi sempre alla pagina per fare il pagamente per accedere a internet. Poi ho scoperto che funzionava anche uTorrent e Limewire. Alla fine ho provato a inserire ad un indirizzo al posto di http un https, e tutto è funzionato. Perciò quello schifo di blocco, blocca tutti i siti in http. Non tutti i siti funzionano con https davanti, ma fortunatamente Wordpress è uno di quelli compatibili. E così posso bloggare per altre due settimane in santa pace. Fantastico no?

I will address the bad first. The bad, in this instance, is the pity I feel for Australian gamers. I have learned through numerous sources that Australians really receive it in the anus from all video game companies. First of all, the prices of everything in gaming is nearly doubled in almost every instance, if not worse. For instance, XBOX Live costs Australians $99 US dollars, which is about double to our $50 a year because their dollar is $0.98 to ours. On a similar note, even though the Australians pay double for XBL, they do not get all the fancy features. They will not be able to use the new Netflix feature, nor the 1v100 feature, and they also cannot download videos from marketplace.

That is not the worst of it, though. Not only do they have less features fro double the price, but games are not released there at the same date (or even close to, for that matter) that they are in the US and other major markets.

On a lighter, nicer, side of things, I am going to share with you some wonderful music (as always).

The name of the band is ISIS. Their game: ambient sludge metal. Their Wikipedia page describes them as "post-metal" and "sludge metal". As you could read in their wiki page, they are a Boston-based band, which I was quite excited to hear about.

Anyway, enough about the band itself. The music is what makes them remarkable. Last March, my friend Ryan was like "Hey, you ever listen to ISIS?" and I replied 'Who?'. Much to his disbelief I had not heard of or listened to them before. That's when I first checked them out. At first, I liked them, but it was not obsessed as I am now. The song he played for me was "Garden of Light" which is the last track on their 2006 release In the Absence of Truth. As a whole, that album could quite possibly be one of my favorites in quite some time. In my ears, the best track on the album is BY FAR "Holy Tears". It's the heaviest song, and it lasts for precisely seven minutes and six seconds. That is 7:06 of pure brilliance. I cannot describe to you how moving this song is, or anything else about it for that matter, and do it justice. Because of that, I am going to embed a player with it right now. Prepare yourself for EARGASM.

So? How was your eargasm? If it was not one of the most intense eargasms of your life, you simply do not appreciate sonic brilliance.

Now, we shall move on to the ugly. This is slightly ludicrous to criticize my own blog in a blog post, but, it has to be done.

Since I have been posting here at WordPress, none of the posts I have given you few, wonderful readers have been nothing but useless drivel. Jargon. Empty words. Although they have provided small amounts of insight into my mind, what substance or knowledge have you gained that can be applied in a positive manner? None, as far as I can see, and hat is a problem. There is far too much useless drivel in the world today, what with the failing media and news outlets. Do I really need to be adding to the cesspool of useless banter floating around the Internet? I want to be more, and I feel that the people deserve more. The problem is, however, that I have nothing useful to say. I cannot provide insight to any real dilemmas or real-world issues. I would try, but I would fall into the category of "this guy doesn't know what he is talking about" and I DO NOT want to become that guy.

Will I continue to write in this blog the way I have previously? Of course I will. What better way to improve than to practice?

The other downside is my poor vocabulary usage. I have a very concrete, predictable style of writing, and I wish to change that. The problem I run into is that I do not know how to solve the paradox. Do I keep writing? That could lead to me only solidifying the style I write with now, or if I was able to write with enough discipline I could possibly work my way in a different direction. The most problematic hurdle I run into is a lack of critique. Out of all the readers I have had come to my blog (424 curious visitors, as I type this), I have only received 18 comments. Not a ratio I particularly enjoy. If any of you wish for my blog to become a more interesting, flavorful read, PLEASE help me help you and comment. If there was any confusion, anyone can comment. You do not need to register to WordPress or anything (although, you should get your own blog!).

I ultimately opted for Dean's FCKEditor Wordpress Plugin, since it features an up-to-date version of the FCKEditor sotware, featuring a user-friendly interface to perform ordinary maintenance tasks (such as uploading images or files in a specific folder on your server) and displaying the ability not to mess up those tags which tinyMCE gives problems with.

However, my fear is that, since this plugin rests for now on the shoulders of one man (Dean Lee, whom I personally thank for giving birth to the plugin in the first place), it might one day cease to be regularly updated to future versions of FCKEditor and WordPress. After all, this is what (so it seems) happened to the Xinha4WP plugin, a Wordpress implementation of the Xinha open source editor, which "died" at version 1.2 beta.

In my view, the problem with one-man plugins is not so much that users do not improve them: quite on the contrary, I am fairly sure that, as with all Open Source software, there exist scattered groups of people working on the plugin code. However, the problem is that all such "tweaks" (which may often consist of important bug fixes) rarely get by to a larger audience, meaning that plugin-hackers keep their findings and changes to themselves, and might not - actually - even regard themselves as developers. This, however, chills any incentive towards the creation of a truly integrated social network of developers. In fact, the countless but de-centralized efforts of many ultimately do not go into the generation of newer and better versions of the plugin. Moreover, original developers might get bored of constantly receving bug reports and help requests from less tech-savvy users, and might ultimately decide to give up the regular updating of the plugin altogether (after all - I believe - one thing is developing, another is implementing, which sometimes requires personalized care and might therefore be annoying to individually perform for free). Newbie users will further get discouraged by a plugin that contains long-known-but-never-fixed bugs, and ultimately look somewhere else, or just bend their head, and submit to tinyMCE.

Hence, I believe that, if one truly believes that FCKEditor deserves to stay in - and keep up with - Wordpress (which - in my view - might  become in the near future the CMS, for its incredible ease of use), the only way to keep this piece of software alive, and to have it survive the interests of its originator,  is to set up a developers' website, where users familiar with the relevant code may submit and, most importantly, share bug fixes, to be ultimately integrated in newer versions. It is only by joining the decentralized efforts of many toward a single goal that it might be possible to achieve it, otherwise, they'll just disperse.

A cidade pára para o descanso obrigatório dos cidadãos.  Muitos não têm como pagar suas dívidas, hipotecas e gastos que fizeram nas festas de fim de ano mas não ficam, nem sonhando, sem suas "vacaciones".

Nos últimos meses, no trabalho, encontrei pessoas que se declaravam apaixonadas pelo Brasil. Alguns se firmavam no trio maravilha, cartão de visitas brasileiro, mulher/futebol/carnaval. Mas encontrei alguns como o francês Jean*, que sendo músico jazzista, tem vontade de conhecer o Brasil para aprender algo mais sobre Jobim e Pixinguinha, visitar a Mooca e tocar com sambistas de verdade, dona Lucía* deseja conhecer o nordeste brasileiro e suas praias e a filha do seu Jorge* quer aprender a dançar samba com a mesma graça que dança o flamenco.

Mas depois dos problemas migratórios Brasil/Espanha fica até um pouco difícil indicar o Brasil como destino para as férias de verão, quero dizer, ficava difícil, agora encontrei o De Viaje a Brasil, o site/blog do Tony Galvez, lexicógrafo zaragozano que depois de viver na Irlanda, mora no Brasil há seis anos e já conhece o gigante de norte a sul. São muitas dicas garimpadas nesses anos de experiência para ensinar aos "hispanohablantes" como ter as melhores férias de suas vidas. E o melhor é que o Tony tem um registro fotográfico impressionante e de alta qualidade de todos os lugares visitados por ele.

Seguro que mucha gente como yo, que se haya basado en algún tutorial encontrado por la red para hacer una instalación rápida, habrá modificado tan solo los parámetros básicos

Para generar la SECRET_KEY, podemos utilizar el link http://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.0/, que nos devuelve de forma automática la definición completa de la variable SECRET_KEY, y que simplemente tendremos que copiar en nuestro wp-config.php

Sin embargo, a partir de Wordpress 2.6 esta variable ha sido reemplazada por tres: AUTH_KEY, SECURE_AUTH_KEY y LOGGED_IN_KEY. Para generar sus valores, no he encontrado un link como el anterior que me genere estas claves, pero aun así podríamos utilizarlo sustituyendo tan solo el valor que nos devuelve (no la variable en sí ya que esta cambia), o bien generar las claves con alguna aplicación, como puede ser http://www.freepasswordgenerator.com/

Sea como fuere, cambia el valor que viene por defecto:

Además he encontrado un buen artículo en el que habla de otras medidas de seguridad, algunas bastante sencillas y a la vez lógicas, pero que en la mayoría de ocasiones no nos planteamos, quizás por lo obvias que son, como es el uso de un prefijo distinto a wp_, y la sustitución de la cuenta admin por otra distinta no anunciada a voces.

Mas Darwin nos ilustrou a teoria da Evolução, e agora é hora do meu blog evoluir para uma nova plataforma.

Não que o Blogger não fosse suficiente - de fato ele até anda melhor do que já foi. Mas realmente o Wordpress é bem mais prático, inteligente e flexível. Tenho muito ainda o que testar para implementar aqui.

Ainda preciso arrumar a URL, redirecionar os posts antigos pra cá... Mas devagar a gente consegue ajeitar essa coisa.

- I started in Form 3, originally in Xanga before shifting to Friendster. At the end of 2006, I officially moved to my current blog which you are currently reading.

4. How did you first start blogging and why?
- I got bored of normal English essay writing at school. I wanted to wander into subjects beyond the narrow confines of the classroom plus I really wanted to write more frequently in an environment where I could improve my language immensely.

5. What do you write in your blog?
- Things pertinent to me: music, pop culture, random stuff, etc. I enjoy writing about events the most, especially gigs or some cool outing with my friends. Basically anything I feel I want to remember in a decade's time when Video Blogs will take over normal Web Logs and I am old and senile.

6. What kind of a blog is it?
- A blog that people can just go to to get a taste of a normal Malaysian young adult's life in the city as well as his views and sometimes comedic interpretation of the world.

7. How many hits do you get a day?
- On average 50, but who's counting?

8. Do you have pictures on your blog?
- I try to have pictures, but it is not the end of the blogger-sphere if I am picture-less.

9. Do you put your real name on your blog?
- Yeah, I don't really believe in pseudonyms.

- My family and friends do while some people from the U.K. and U.S. just drop by randomly when I talk about movies and TV shows.

- I would say Blogger since they allow customization, but I am happy and comfortable with Wordpress.

12. Who is allowed to visit your blog?
- Anyone who can read, but I welcome illiterates as well.

- I would not mind being famous as long as I don't forget why I started blogging.

14. Is it important that you go on your blog everyday?
- Yeah, if I am online.

- Yeah, it is one of the modern day equivalents of the Social Responsibility Theory and Libertarianism, but seriously, life only happens once, so write about it, go through it, and enjoy it.
