This is what made me want to start making things for people and documenting them. I have a friend from work called Westerly Hannah. He is a part time magician (read not a wizard like me), amazing vegan cook/chef, and a fool (full) time comedian.

He was going to visit LA which is where I am from. So I thought it would be cool if I could tell him everywhere that I thought was fun or cool. I figured I would just call him every time I thought of something, but then I thought I should just write all of them down in something he could take with him. Then I remembered about a little book my friend Darren Russel Bridenbeck (aka Rocky) showed me how to make and figured it'd be the perfect little pocket guide for traveling.

So without further ado I give you Wes' Big Adventurer N LA:

So the drawing is of Old Dirty Bastard from the Wu-Tang Clan. It's a picture I drew when I worked at a movie theatre in LA. It's from a Vice magazine article. In it his face is kinda scrunched up, so the drawing takes a minute to register. It is hands down one of if not my favorite drawing I've ever done.

Wes' friends by default took him to a lot of the places on the list. He had a great time in LA. He got into a couple bike wrecks. You could say he was crusin' for a brusin'. I love to say that.

Potter Puppet Pals are a series of comical skits using puppets that poke fun at the main characters from the Harry Potter novels while still showing a devotion to the iconic books. The creator, Neil Cicierega, purposely makes the characters extremely one-dimensional, picking out one particular trait and making each puppet the embodiment of that trait. In this particular skit, “Wizard Angst”, Harry Potter is feeling “cranky and pubescent” and “doesn’t know why”. He then proceeds to “take it out on people [he] likes.” Harry can be slightly domineering in the novels, so the puppet Harry is annoyingly egotistical and arrogant. Ron is slightly cowardly in the books, so he is given a very feminine voice and is scared of mostly everything, including Harry. Hermione on the other hand, is given a very masculine voice. Part of the humor is in how over-simplified these internationally recognizable characters are. The voices of the characters are also a large part of the humor, particularly the dry imitation of Alan Rickman’s interpretation of Proffesor Snape’s voice in the Harry Potter films. The filming of the skits are also very simplistic, which might not work if the skits were not in the format of a puppet show. The homemade signs at the beginning also add to the simplistic feel.

The static facial expressions of the puppets could be said to detract from the piece, but I believe that the skit is funnier because the characters’ faces are constantly smiling, even when they are angry or sad. The best example was when Harry berates Ron, saying that he is sick of Ron’s “dreadful speckled mug”, and Ron replies, ”why must you hurt me in this way Harry?”. The camera moves in closer to Ron’s face so that the viewer can see his freckles, yet he is still smiling, despite being hurt by his friend’s words. The contrast between Ron’s dialogue and his facial expression only makes the situation even more comical.

One thing that I did not like about this particular episode of Harry Potter Puppet Pals was the point at which Ron and Harry use a spell on Professor Snape to make him poop his pants. I thought that particular use of humor was a bit too childish and unnecessary, especially when they skit has so many priceless lines, such as Snape's line, “methinks some severe punishment is in order. The two of you shall be dragged by your ears to the dungeons where a drunken Filch will be waiting with a cactus and a croquet mallet...". However, the skit did have many other humorous moments that made up for this one instance. The overall effect of the filming combined with the voices, dialogue, and the physical puppets make for an extremely funny video.

Six years ago, My friends and I always meet up on the cyberworld on a dial-up connections thru YM. W

Six years ago, My friends and I always meet up on the cyberworld on a dial-up connections thru YM. We used to create chaos on every room by flooding it or by using a bomber. Then we started an Internet Cafe business out of fun. We get tired of playing billiards everyday so we decided to bring our own PC on one location and connected our PCs on a network.

We invested our own PCs and a small amout of money to build the locations and to obtain the necessary network device. We subscribed for a DSL connections and that's the time we appreciated the coolness of Online gaming. Its a recreation and chatting in one. At first we played Ragnarok Online and spend at least P50 a week for unlimited game time. After 2 weeks of playing, I stopped playing at Lvl 31 because I felt that P200 for a month is to much. Several weeks past, A friend of ours told us about an emerging Online Game called MU Online. We googled it and found out that it is a global free server.

We immediately downloaded the game and started playing. I was stunned by the graphics and the story, compared to Ragnarok Online it looks more matured since the Characters depicts a Knight,Wizard and Elf. For you to lvl up it would take a day or two and again I get tired of it and stops at Lvl 50. My friend continues to play the global server not until it stops connecting. We found out that there will be a Philippine version of MU coming up and that is the reason why the creator of global MU shuts the connection for Philippine players on the global network. We got upset then, not until I've checked google and found out that there are several free servers in the web. Then I discovered MU Canada.

Mu Canada is a free MU online server that offers global players to play for free but if you want to help the owner of the game to improved his system you have the option to donate at least a bucks. One of our filipino friend who lives in Makati was part of the MOD players then. And I heard that the creator/owner of the MU Canada server was able to purchase a $2500 server thru donations and after 2 or 3 months he shuts down the Server. It was so sad because we need to look for another free server. I've tried several MU servers and they also don't last that long.

We've stopped the business and parted ways, started to have my own cafe that lasted for 1 year and 5 months. I've been working in a call center for over a year now and last Sunday I decided to download again an MU client froma free server called MassacreMU. I started playing for 3 straight hours and I was able to have my first character reset. I asked the other players for information about the game since it looks a little different now compared to the last time I've seen the game and I would say that they are all friendly. I used to play with Hasan and 15 year old from Bulgaria and a character name Rudy from Argentina.

Even though we are all miles apart and there's a cultural and language barrier between us. I believed we all agreed on one thing that MU online is Cool. We understand each other on the game. There's no barriers, no inhibitions.

Marlee Beth Matlin was born on 24 August, 1965 in Morton Grove, Illinois, USA. Marlee is an Academy

Marlee Beth Matlin was born on 24 August, 1965 in Morton Grove, Illinois, USA. Marlee is an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning American actress who is deaf.

Marlee was born to Libby and Donald Matlin, an automobile dealer. Marlee lost all hearing in her right ear, and 80% of hearing in her left ear at the age of 18 months. Marlee was raised in a Jewish family in Morton Grove, Illinois, USA. Marlee graduated from John Hersey High School in nearby Arlington Heights and attended Harper College.

Marlee made her stage debut at the age of 7, as Dorothy in a children's theatre version of The Wizard of Oz, and continued to appear with the same children's theatre group throughout her childhood.

Marlee's film debut, 1986's Children of a Lesser God, brought her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama and an Academy Award for Best Actress. Marlee is one of the few actors to win an Oscar for their debut performance, and as of 2008, still holds the record for youngest winner in the Best Actress Oscar category. Marlee was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her work as the lead female role in the television series Reasonable Doubts (1991–1993) and was nominated for an Emmy Award for a guest appearance in Picket Fences. Marlee became a regular on the series during its final season.

Marlee later had recurring roles in The West Wing, and Blue's Clues. Other television appearances include Seinfeld ("The Lip Reader"), The Outer Limits ("The Message"), ER, Desperate Housewives, CSI: NY and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Marlee was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for her guest appearances in Seinfield, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and The Practice.

In 2002, Marlee published her 1st novel, Deaf Child Crossing, which was loosely based on her own childhood.

In 2004, she starred in the movie What the Bleep Do We Know? as Amanda.

In 2006, Marlee was honored at AOL's 2nd Annual Chief Everything Officer Awards. Marlee joined the cast of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on Sunday, 17 September, 2006. In the episode featuring a deaf boy with a blind father, grandmother and sisters, Marlee was the guest host. Marlee wrote and published a sequel to Deaf Child Crossing, titled Nobody's Perfect, which was produced on stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in partnership with VSA arts in October 2007.

Also in 2006, she played a deaf parent in Desperate Housewives. Marlee also had a recurring role as Joy Turner's (who made many jokes of Marlee's deafness at her expense) public defender in My Name Is Earl and played the mother of one of the victims in an episode of CSI: NY. Marlee starred in the Baby Einstein videos Baby's Favorite Places: First Words-Around Town and Baby Wordsworth: First Words Around the House, both of which were designed to introduce sign language as a form of non-verbal communication.

In 2006 Marlee was cast in season 4 of The L Word as Jodi Lerner, a gay deaf sculptor. Marlee appeared in season 4 (2007) and season 5 (2008) as the girl friend of the show's main protagonist Bette Porter (played by Jennifer Beals). It is unclear if Marlee will continue in season 6, the show's final season.

On 4 February, 2007, Marlee performed the Star Spangled Banner in American Sign Language at Super Bowl XLI in Miami, Florida. Marlee again starred in Baby Einstein in March 2007 with My First Signs, which introduced sign language using common words such as "mommy" and "milk." Marlee also appeared on Hollywood Squares with Tom Bergeron as emcee. Though she could not hear and was not encouraged to use her own voice to speak, her personal interpreter Jack Jason (who also appeared with her during talk show and publicity appearances) accompanied her on the panel and she handled questions with his assistance - including offering some humorous quips (in ASL) in her own right.

In January 2008, she appeared on Nip/Tuck as a television executive.

On 18 February, 2008, it was announced that Marlee would participate as a competitor in the 6th season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars. Marlee's dance partner was newcomer Fabian Sanchez. Marlee and Fabian were eliminated from the competition on 22 April, 2008.

On 13 July, 2008, Marlee participated in the Taco Bell All Star Legends and Celebrity Softball game as part of All-Star Weekend activities at Yankee Stadium. Marlee scored a run and had 2 RBI for the National League team.

Marlee is actively involved with a number of charitable organisations, including the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, VSA arts, and the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet. Marlee was appointed by President Clinton in 1994 to the Corporation for National Service and served as chair of National Volunteer Week.

Marlee received an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree from Gallaudet University in 1987. In October 2007, she was appointed to the Gallaudet University Board of Trustees.

Marlee has been close friends with actress Jennifer Beals since they met in an airport in the 1980s.

Marlee married law enforcement officer Kevin Grandalski on 29 August, 1993 (in Henry Winkler's back yard). They have 4 children: Sara Rose, born on 19 January, 1996; Brandon Joseph, born on 12 September 2000; Tyler Daniel, born on 18 July, 2002; and Isabelle Jane, born on 26 December, 2003. Marlee lives in Los Angeles with her family.

Tonight I am going to sit down with my daughter and begin creating my first full fledged gameworld f

Tonight I am going to sit down with my daughter and begin creating my first full fledged gameworld for 4e. The license to create is one of my favorite aspects of the game and to this day I have never used a pre-generated gameworld.

I always build my own.

The first step in this process is knowing the sort of *feel* you want for your world.

Scratch that. The very first step is tossing out the book. You might draw bits of it back in, but at the start, toss it out unless it has the exact flavor you are already looking for. For me it never does.

I like a pseudo-dark / sinister feel to my worlds. Not Ravenloft dark. The undead have their place, but I don't need them stinking up every corner of the garden. No, I like a gritty, realistic backdrop for my fantasy characters.

And the word *gritty* leads me to one of my favorite setting-types of all time: a desert.

Unfortunately, like sea voyages, deserts can quickly become very boring if you're not careful. *It's hot, you're thirsty* repeated over and over to your players tends to become tedious for you and for them.

So why choose a desert at all?

A couple reasons:

Deserts are treacherous. You have tons of built-in dangers before you sling a single monster their way. Shifting sand. Boiling sun. Dehydration. Plenty of unavoidable natural formations and phenomena that force your players to think of solutions that don't involve swords, axes, or their favorite spell.

Deserts also provide a great place to hide entire lost cities in the shifting sands.

Sand-pit nests make for way-cool deadly erm, I mean *interesting* dragon lairs

But we also want a *dark* feel - how is a desert *dark*? Simple. It's bloody hot. So, it makes more sense for your players' characters to be active at night in a desert environment. You won't even have to railroad them into it. They will think it up all on their own and consider themselves brilliant for having done so.

Added bonus? Adventuring in a land where being up at night makes sense means that PC thieves have to either break into places in broad daylight to catch people sleeping or they have to deal with awake and alert victims when they break in at night. Both raise the tension and excitement levels for the players.

Number One Reason? Desert settings are not EUROPEAN in flavor. It is easier to shake off the typical D&D stale-fantasy feel and get into the kind of grit that makes players have to think.

I could go on, but I think that relays the gist of it.

So I've begun to move from the *feel* of my world into actual geography, and I need to jag back just a little bit and finish fleshing out the *feel* of the world.

I want dark and gritty. I want realistic.

I think I have dark covered and I'm well on my way to gritty. How to get realistic when the core of the game is fantasy?

Answer: Hide or make the fantastic less accessible.

Magic shops? I'm sorry, but f*ck that. Shady wizards who can cook sh!t up for you? Sure. But they have to be found. Fantastic monsters? For the most part they are either relegated to the *wilds* or live in *hiding* in more civilized areas.

My exception to the rule is Dragons.

In my world the dwarves rule. I am not speaking to their awesomeness. They are actually the race with the power base. Instead of a *common* tongue, Dwarven Trade Tongue is the language of the masses.

Why dwarves, you ask?

They are almost always lawful and tend to be good. That helps me maintain order as the DM and allows me to give the characters fair hearings when they do something stupid. Plus, dwarves and PCs both loooove a good *trial by combat*

They love to build. Their cities. Their rule.

They love wealth. They love to make stuff.

So their government is based on protecting trade, rather than dominating other races (helps nip that dwarf-character-who-wants-to-lord-his-superiority-over-his-companions thing in the bud)

Did I mention they have managed to enslave a particular species of dragon (Iron Dragon) to aid them in keeping the peace and keeping marked dwarven trade routes clear and viable?

So dwarven dragonriders are common-ish. Wild dragons still follow the books for the most part. But what if a PC wants to be a dragonrider? No problem. Reach level 15 and we'll talk about basic training with a young hatchling.

<insert big evil DM grin here>

So the fantastic is within sight - Dragons crouched on three of the towers of the city walls, or flying patrol overhead (at any one time there might be 30 full fledged dragonriders in the whole world), but day to day life is hot and gritty and most conflicts are solved with cold steel in skeevy back alleyways or hot pitched battle.

Feel achieved.

Next: Character Races

So this morning, in a vain attempt to make my kids STOP FIGHTING ALREADY, I decided to take them to our local library where there be free books, free Internet, and free librarians who will give my kids the fish eye if they so much as whisper.

Things were going well - kids were reading Far Side books (Gary Larsen FTW!), I was working, library was quiet.

Until the Psycho Three Year Old arrived.

We're all familiar with the PTYO. In public places, this tiny but powerful being loves to assert his authority by screaming. Loudly. With gusto. For prolonged periods of time until people (me) start ovulating; misguidedly, but well-meaningly.

What I mean by that previous confusing sentence is this: I walked out of the library to the lobby where the PTYO was pitching a fit the likes of which I haven't seen since my kids were that age. So, a while. I nicely asked the grandma type if there was "anything I could do to help", which is polite speak for COULD YOU PLEASE SHUT THAT FREAKING KID UP.

After about five minutes of me reassuring her that she was doing the right thing by not giving in to his demands, I offered her my portable syringe of Valium and went my merry way. Yeah, if only - I save that for my OWN kids, not some crazy ankle biter that I just met!

Anyway, he's quiet now. My work is done.

I think the librarian has some grudging respect for me. She keeps looking over at me with something that looks like respect. But maybe her fish eye is just not all the way up to speed.

PHP 5 have a new set of Magic methods for it’s object that can make the life of any developer

PHP 5 have a new set of Magic methods for it's object that can make the life of any developer easy. Let's take a look on some of them.

__autoload($className) : This method, from all of them, is by far the best. No more need of including classes declarations on every document. Now by only calling the class name, the __autoload method will automaticly create a object based on the class name that you have given. The best way to work this around is by setting the class name and the file name as the same, but if you don't want to, just do the right logic inside the method.
function __autoload($classname) { include_once "{$classname}.php"; }
P.S. This method usually is created on the header of your application, not inside a class.

__get($what) and __set($what,$whitValue): No more declaring one get and one set for each variable and no more need to call get() or set() when needing to get or set a variable. Declaring the __get and __set magic methods will allow you to set or get a variable even if it is protected or private as it is a public variable. Consider that you have a protected $id on your class that sometimes you need to get it. You can declare a method getId() to retrieve this value or changing it to public. How about you keep as it is and declare a __get method on the class and reference the id as a public variable? Well this is whole concept of the __get method. Once you have declared you can access the value of the variable as it is public.
class tmpObject {
protected $id;
# all methods of the class
__get($what) {
if(isset($this->$what)) {
return $this->$what;
}
}
} # class end

$obj = new testObject();
# id is a protected member of the object
$obj->id;

__call() method: This works similar to the __get() method, but for functions. When well defined it will call the correct function that you have referenced on the class and retrieve return. The best use for this method is to display a friendly error message when a function does not exists inside the class scope.

__toString() method: This is a way to display your object information as a string, so whenever you echo or print it, this method will return a string value (whatever you have defined) for it to print.

__clone() method: Well this a tricky ... but let's keep the concept simple. If you need to make a copy of a object and need it work in a different way for any reason, you must declare the __clone method with the correct logic. There's a great example of how you can use it at PHP.NET Object Clonning Manual.

For all of us ‘After the Catch’ fans…Itunes is now offering downloads of both seas

For all of us 'After the Catch' fans...Itunes is now offering downloads of both season 1 & 2 of 'After the Catch'. For a measly few bucks you can purchase all episodes aired, commercial free! ...Can't hardly beat that and its the first time they've been offered as such!

For all Wizard fans, you'll be glad to know that earlier this summer, the F/V Wizard website constructed their official merchandise store, finally! In a press release sent out at the end of June, the Florida based ad agency announced they had constructed the Crab Wizard online store and Capt. Keith, himself said, “I’m so excited to be able to offer a line of outerwear with our logo online. Fans have been requesting it for a long time and I’m happy Edelsbacher Design Group made it happen.” Discriminating shoppers will also be happy to note, "The Crabwizard's online store offers a variety of tee shirts, hats, and sweatshirts available in multiple colors for both Wizards and Wizettes are available for purchase. Captain Colburn requires that all Crabwizard products offered on his site be screen-printed and embroidered in the USA. Also, that all the clothing textiles used are manufactured in the USA and assembled in countries that practice fair trade policies."

And last but not least, most fans are already familiar with the F/V Cornelia Marie website, along with Captain Phil's official line of coffee, but there's been another fairly new addition to the online presence of the Harris clan, and that is the captainphilharris. com website that now offers merchandise as well. The understanding is that both official websites will someday merge and the result will be a complete marriage of all that is related to Captain Phil, family, and ship!

I have realized that I read and own a lot of book series, and I wanted to share some of my favorites

I have realized that I read and own a lot of book series, and I wanted to share some of my favorites.
(These are all technically children/teen series, but they're the best kind! And really for people of all ages.)

05. The Chronicles Of NarniaThe Chronicles Of Narnia is about four children - Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter Pevensie, and their adventures in the magical world of Narnia. A few of the books in the series do not include the Pevensie children in them. This series is so imaginative, the story is timeless and is sure to live on for many years to come.

04. His Dark Materials
His Dark Materials is about a girl named Lyra Belacqua. In the first book of the series, Lyra learns about 'Dust' - a mysterious particle, and what exactly it is. In the second book she travels to the city of Cittàgazze, where she meets a boy named Will Parry who becomes the bearer of the Subtle Knife, which can be used to cut through any kind of matter, as well as create portals to other worlds. In the third book a scientist named Mary Malone learns what 'Dust' really is, and Will and Lyra travel to the Land Of The Dead. This series is very unique and that makes it incredibly interesting. I know I left a lot of things out when I was trying to summarize each book, but I really didn't want to give anything away so you should really read the series because there is so much more that I couldn't explain.

03. Twilight Saga
The Twilight Saga is about a girl named Bella Swan, who has a mundane life and moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father. She meets a vampire named Edward Cullen at school, and falls in love with him. That's basically all I'm going to say about it because if I say anymore it would kind of ruin all the books for anyone reading this, and I'm trying to keep these summaries spoiler-free. As you may (or may not) know, these books are extremely popular right now, and for a good reason too - this is definitely more than just a vampire love story.

02. Harry Potter
Harry Potter is about a boy and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who are all wizards/witches and go to Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story arc is Harry's struggle against the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents in his quest to conquer the Wizarding World. Honestly, if you haven't read these books yet... well, what are you waiting for? All the hype for these books isn't just talk, they're truly amazing, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

01. The Sally Lockhart Series
The first book of the Sally Lockhart Series takes place in 1872, when a young woman named Sally Lockhart receives a mysterious letter that sends her on a quest to find out what it means, and why a woman called Ms. Holland is out to kill her. She meets Frederick Garland and Jim Taylor along the way. In the second book it is 1878 and Sally finds that she must seek help from old friends, and finds herself losing all she holds dear trying to uncover the truth behind the North Star, the Steam Gun, and Bellman. In the third book it is 1881 and a trap for Sally has been sprung, which has been in preparation for years. She is forced to go undercover, leaving behind her family and friends, as an old enemy returns. In the fourth book it is 1882 and Jim finds Adelaide, a girl who went missing during Sally's first encounter with danger, and finds that she has married into the royal family of Razkavia, a small country near Germany. However, resentment is rising within the palace, and plots develop to dethrone the family and join Germany. Although Sally Lockhart isn't featured as the main character in The Tin Princess, I have included it in the series because she does make an appearance. I got really attached to the characters in these books, to the point where when certain things happened (I won't mention them here, to keep you un-spoiled) I seriously cried. That doesn't happen often to me with books, but these books are so significant to me because they're unlike anything I have ever read before. I definitely recommend this series because I don't think enough people know about it, and how great these books really are.
