Membuat Video Clip!!

hahhaa.. dengan lagu dari orang-orang terkenal, dan dengan menggunakan sebuah webcam dan headset, jadilah sebuah video klip edan, one person artist, one take, n one time editing. (halah, apaan sih?)

project awal. cuma menggunakan movie maker, built in webcam, laptop, mouse, ruang tidur joko, deodorant, dan remote TV tuner. juga pakaian yang melekat di tubuh...

(buat band ST 12, jangan marah ya... mohon maaf kalo tersinggung. cuma buat gila--gilaan aja kok. ga ada maksud melecehkan. )

I've been looking at Moe's swing again this morning, for the first time in a long time since I stopped studying it as the model of a natural swing, and I have to say, he ALMOST had it.

I'll tell you what he had wrong. We all know what he had right- he hit the ball dead straight. Pure. Every time.

That's no accident. Moe did figure out the proper pendulum motion for a swing. But his deviation from the proper Kinsesiology of the swing started with his decision that he didn't care how far he hit the ball, as long as it went straight.

I'm going to prove, with the same swing action that Mike Austin pioneered a century ago, that the same motion for producing the most powerful swing is also the motion that can hit a ball dead straight. Every time.

It just has to be be done correctly.

Look at this clip I made of Moe months ago. He shows the proper swing motion himself when he demonstrates his "pendulum motion."

The problem is, Moe did something differently from what he shows in his "pendulum motion" swing before he hits the ball. The practice motion is Mike Austin's motion, with no wrist or hand rotation through impact. This is how Moe fooled me. When I saw that, I knew instinctively that this is the right motion.

But when Moe actually swung, he turned his wrists through the impact zone, like everyone else does. He just delayed the rotation until impact, so that he was able to hit the ball dead straight.

But he had to rotate the hands because of his wide stance. The same thing that he thought gave him his accuracy- was the thing that kept him from being dead straight and long, longer than he could ever have dreamt.

Watch the second clip of Moe here below, and although the picture quality is bad (I'm going to make a clearer one now that I have the equipment), you can tell Moe turned his hands in the release.

So, with a swing like that, if you swung harder than he hit, it would have been difficult to delay the turn until just after impact.

And you would have hit the ball with an open or shut face.

And so, Moe did nearly everything right.

But the wide stance and the planted left heel...meant that he'd never get the power Mike Austin had.

And if Mike Austin wasn't dead straight, it wasn't because of his swing action. It would have been something he was doing wrong, such as aiming his club face or aligning himself wrong before he swung, or a slight error in something he was doing.

Mike Austin's action was the one to have.

And I'm going to prove it...

I don't know if they even sell this thing anymore, this video clip has to be twenty to thirty years old, judging by the graphics and music.

What I find interesting is not the device itself, which was probably a gimmick, but Mike Austin's motion itself. As I said yesterday, I got a revelation on how to swing the golf club properly using the way the human body is designed, and this video clip illustrates beatifully how Mike Austin did it with his own vision of that motion.

Now, when I say that the Flammer was a gimmick, I'm not calling Mike Austin's honesty into question. What I'm saying is that if it was all you needed to learn his swing, this device would have changed the face of golf forever, and I've never heard of the thing. I'm sure Mike Austin knew how it worked because he designed it, but if you were going to learn his swing with that thing, you'd have needed him there to position you exactly where you could swing properly with it.

That's the thing with all swing devices, from the Medicus to Mike Austin's Flammer...you have to be in the mind of the maker to know exactly how it works. This is going to be the hardes thing for me to do myself - show people my vision of exactly how the body is supposed to work.

I think Mike Austin's difficulty came from not being able to convey the vision he had to illustrate the motion. Once I get back out and prove to myself that I know how it works, hopefully on Position Theory Day Seven, I'll get to work on how to convey or transfer that vision so that anyone can learn it.

It isn't a difficult thing, once you figure it out. Of course, it took me three years and change to figure out, but I didn't have Mike Austin teaching me, nor do I have a PhD in Kinesiology, and I spent nearly all of that three years studying the wrong motion - Moe Norman's.

But it's not as if I learned the motion watching Mike Austin's video clips, either. What I did was reference what I was doing at any particular time with whomever I was using as a model. And at the beginning of my Position Theory sessions, I didn't even look at Mike Austin. I hadn't looked at his swing in more than a couple of weeks when I looked at this clip again.

And you know what?

I did figure out the last piece last night, because, looking at this clip, I know exactly how Flammer would have worked for you, and exactly how Mike Austin was swinging in this clip.

And you know what?

It's so easy, once you figure it out! I was slapping my forehead last night, and I couldn't sit still. I kept getting up from the sofa and grabbing clubs, and swinging them in the living room, and shaking my head in mingled disgust and amazement. Amazement at how simple it really is once you figure it out, and disgust that it took me so long.

This was me last night:

"How about the Driver?" Swing, swing... "Yup...let's try the wedge...." Swing swing... "6 Iron?" Swing swing...

You get the picture.

And I'm not saying that I'll be shooting 59 tomorrow, mind you. There's more to playing great golf than just knowing how to swing a club. I've still got much to do myself, when it comes to playing. There are such things as calibrating distance with clubs, including less-than-full swings, which just takes enough time to get the feel for it, and also shaping shots, and learning how to play with wind, and different temperatures affecting the ball.

Then there's learning how to play different courses, with regards to green and fairway grasses, and calibrating your short game. Yes, I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

But as far as the swing goes...last night, I knew that my Position Theory work had finally paid the dividend I was seeking- the last piece of the puzzle that had me tearing my hair out all season. There was something missing in all of my motions, no matter how good I thought they were, and I knew it had something to do with my "Easy Motion" swing and my "Pulley-Leverage" swing.

Last night, I found it. And last night, I finally got Mike Austin.

And I had to, if I was going to play golf, because there's only one way I can something. It's the proper way, without thinking about it. If I have to think about it, I can't do it properly. So, if I'm out of the proper position and I start swinging without thinking about it, bad things happen, because I'm swinging naturally and freely and not trying to guide my motion. If I'm out of position or balance, I can go from looking like a pro to a plus-100 hacker in short order. and the more I try to think about it, the worse my swing gets.

So, when I thought Moe Norman had the most natural swing, I tried to figure it out.

It wasn't Moe.

And then I saw Mike Austin, and something told told me he'd figured it out.

Last night, I learned something.

He had...

Nearly a hundred years ago, too...

And now, so have I.

And I'm going to prove it.
