Well, since we're close to launching the site (should all be ready to go in around 2 and a half weeks - maybe sooner - but thats the target we've set ourselves), I thought i'd kick off the blog and post something! Fellow Beer Baron Krishna won't be happy i've made the first post instead of him, but i'm sure he'll forgive me once I buy him a beer, he's easy like that!

Anyway, I turned 21 on Monday, whoo! Bad news for you Americans as i'm coming over to out-drink you all and cut you off of your beer suply in about a years time! No one does it like the English! Celebration wise over my side of the pond, we had 2 messy nights and one messy day of carnage. Friends, beer and good times! Thats what it's all about! Oh, and discovering new beers of course! Which I did! I checked out one of Krishna's recomendations. It's actually been reviewed by him, so you'll be able to read all about it when the site launches mid-september.

I'll keep the first blog post short and sweet, but this is bassically the place where me and Krishna will post our personal thoughts and going-on's in our lives etc. Our home on the blog-universe, where you can get to know us a little better. We'll also keep you updated with all things BeerBaronz related as well.

If anyone happens to read this before we launch, then why not add our Myspace? We'll be keeping our Myspace friends updated on things as we approach launch and you'll also be the first to know when the site goes live. Find us at http://www.myspace.com/beerbaronz

Just exactly who are Gordon Browns friends I’m not sure, but I am certain he won’t have

Just exactly who are Gordon Browns friends I'm not sure, but I am certain he won't have many amongst the working families and pensioners of the UK.

Some time ago, in the face of utility companies, energy suppliers in particular, banking inordinate profits the government was considering imposing a windfall tax which would then be used to fund pay-outs to the poorest households in the country. An alternative, capping the profit level of these companies, was mentioned but never got a sideways look into the government agenda. The profiteers' response was to protest and insist they must protect their profits to ensure future investment and developments – just how that works out or for whose benefit was never explained, but maybe that doesn't matter. The energy companies put their prices up by the most proportions imaginable last year and got away with it, it worked, people paid up, they liked what they saw, did it again this year and are now wallowing in money.

The government has now changed its tune and is saying they will not go for 'short term gimmicks or give-aways' but have been 'working hard' and 'focusing' on long term measures which will provide households with permanent fuel efficiency e.g. loft insulation. Precisely how you work hard at focusing on loft insulation takes some understanding as fitting insulation and draught excluders is relatively low-tech; these techniques have been around for many years and are readily available either at low-cost or, for some people, free. Even if every available insulation technique were applied to a house it would still need to be heated in winter; insulation doesn't generate heat it only helps you hang on to it for a little while longer once you have got it. In my own experience these measures make very little difference to a household heating bill, they simply enable the house to remain warmer for longer.

So why has our dear leader Brown changed his mind? This is speculation and is based only on his past behaviour not on any inside knowledge; the talked about handouts would have been funded by a windfall tax but that is not going to happen – no tax revenue, no payouts. And why is there no windfall tax? Because Gordon Brown cannot face up to anyone with power and influence. This has happened before; big business has got shirty over something the government has threatened to do, made a few loud noises and the government has backed down. Name one instance of Gordon Brown standing up to big business. . . . . I'm listening. You can't remember one? Neither can I. Brown is a political coward. He has no balls [other than Ed], no guts, no fire. He may be a 'nice man' but the working families and pensioners need someone who is prepared to fight for them and protect them from corporate greed.

Tony Woodley, of Unite, is quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying -

“If greedy fuel companies have won out over struggling consumers then this is not just a disappointing move by the Government but a downright disgrace.

“Yes, we need measures to improve fuel efficiency but these should not be paid for by needy people. At this moment in time people need immediate respite from the struggle to pay their gas and electricity bills.

“There must be a rethink and cash assistance for every needy household in the land. It cannot be right that big business is allowed to bank their obscene profits while ordinary people will shiver this winter.”

This lunch time I treated myself to a KFC. I know I know, it's bad for you, what about the little chickens etc. But once in a while I 'treat' myself to my favourite fast food, it's a little bit dirty, a little bit sordid. No it doesn't turn me on, but it does fill me up on a rainy day.

Whilst munching away I may have witnessed the most moronic thing ever in my particular suburb. Which is, trust me, really something. Here it is:

Er, yeah yeah yeah I’ll ‘ave chicken n chips mate, oi Dave, Dave. Dave. DAVE you want chickenchips? Chickenchips Dave yeah? Yeah? Dave, chickenchips?

Nice one, yeah, two chickenchips mate.

What you mean what sort of chickenchips?

Now, seriously, chicken and chips? In a place where your options consist of chicken, chips, and chicken and chips, asking for chicken and chips is a pretty vague request! Asking your mate, repeatedly as he appears to be clinically dead, if he wants the only thing he can have because it is the only thing on the fucking menu, and must have been aware of before entering the fast food joint helpfully called ‘Kenticky Fried CHICKEN’, means that you sir, are a moron (it is possible of course that he was confused because it wasn't called Kentucky Fried Chicken and Chips).

This is backed up by him then abusing the server for 'speaking foreign or whatever'.

This sort of utter 'tard behaviour seems to be on the increase in the outskirts, a slow increase in the number of young men who think that talking, walking and generally acting like they left their brain indoors and being as rude, bigoted and violent as possible is the secret to success. Now, I've seen that Michael J Fox film and let me tell you. that weren't the secret.

Somehow being intelligent and talking like a normal human being, rather than in a weird mix of Compton, cockney and plain thick, have become negatives.

Is it really possible that the film 'Idiocracy' could really happen?

I have been watching, lurking, absorbing and now have taken the plunge!! My very own website!

Having read and looked at many websites created by wonderful people gave me an insight to the sort of site I would like to create. Many use Freewebs which I was tempted to use until I found a very user friendly one called Weebly.com. This one was free and allowed you to drag and drop the various elements into your site. Perfect for the likes of me!

And so, On a Whimsey was born yesterday. I even decided to buy my own domain name. So, On a Whimsey has arrived!!!

Metronomy's music is something I plan to get out there, it's currently one of my personal favourites. Just to remove all confusion (like Muscles), there is ONE guy behind Metronomy called Joseph Mount, though he is joined by Gabriel Stebbing and Oscar Cash in his live shows to help him out. His music is absolutely awesome, it's currently my most played music on my iPod.

Of course he also does many remixes! So far here's the list:
Architecture in Helsinki, Infadels, Magnet, Dead Disco, Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand, Temposhark, Sébastien Tellier, Klaxons, Box Codax, Max Sedgley, The Young Knives, Ladytron, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Kate Nash, DNTEL, Good Shoes and Gorillaz.

His first album "Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe)" was released in 2006 and his newest album "Nights Out" sounds even better! From what I've heard and read, the light shows & their synchronised dancing when they play live are quite amazing.

The songs are quite the alternative sound so if you do like music such as The Knife or Hot Chip, be sure to download this song and give it a listen.

Here's a song from their newest album Nights Out- due to be released on the 8th of September!
A Thing For Me- Metronomy
It doesn't take long to download so just do it!

A BRITISH Airways jet which crash-landed at London's Heathrow Airport in January after a flight from Beijing was brought down by ice in its fuel system, accident investigators said.Britain's Air Accidents Investigation Branch recommended that all airlines introduce preventative measures for Boeing 777s to reduce the risk of a repetition of the near disaster. The pilots managed to land the plane heavily but safely on the grass just before the runway, and 136 passengers and 16 crew escaped without serious injury. The plane suffered extensive damage to its undercarriage and wings.Investigators believe the flow of fuel dropped causing the engines to lose power less than a minute before the plane touched down in a "unique" incident, but say they still do not know how the ice could have formed. The report said: "The investigation has shown that the fuel flow to both engines was restricted; most probably due to ice within the fuel feed system."The ice is likely to have formed from water that occurred naturally in the fuel whilst the aircraft operated for a long period, with low fuel flows, in an unusually cold environment."The plane flew through exceptionally cold air over Siberia on its way to Heathrow on January 17.The fuel temperature plunged to minus 34 degrees Celsius, but aviation fuel does not normally freeze until it reaches temperatures less than minus 57 degrees Celsius.Investigators said: "This is the first such event in 6.5 million flight hours," referring to the flight time of all Boeing 777s powered by the Trent 800 engine since they entered service in 1996.The investigators recommended that US and European aviation authorities, along with the manufacturers of the plane and its engines, Boeing and Rolls-Royce respectively, introduce interim measures "to reduce the risk of ice formed from water in aviation turbine fuel causing a restriction in the fuel feed system."The report also said aviation agencies should consider the implications for other aircraft types and review the requirements for new engines. The investigation into the crash continues at Boeing headquarters in Seattle, Washington, and Rolls Royce's base in Derby, England.

Is it ‘Social Engineering‘?
Seems to me that everyday there is a new “health

Is it 'Social Engineering'?

Seems to me that everyday there is a new "health" warning out about something. Just tonight I heard on my local news about drinking coffee combined with a lack of sleep causes some heart problem or other (have to wait for the link to be put up on the site tomorrow).

I've reached the point of just rolling my eyes and begging God/dess to rescue me from all this insanity!

What's interesting is how three countries, known for the freedom and liberty of their citizens seem to be at the forefront of all this.

As I posted on last week, Alabama will be charging its State Employees a surcharge on their health insurance if they do not participate in it's "wellness" program. More if they are overweight or not falling into the "pre-ordained guidelines" they are told to get to.

The State Employees' Insurance Board last week approved a plan to charge state workers starting in January 2010 if they don't have free health screenings.

A recent report on obesity in South England is almost a joke as it was funded by the Pharmaceutical company who just happens to have a so-called "anti-obesity drug". I mean doesn't that constitute a conflict of interest or something? Why is it that any study that receives so much as one-cent from the tobacco companies for funding a study is immediately labeled biased and shoddy, but let a pharmaceutical company fund a study that comes to conclusions that definitely benefit it, no on bats an eye or questions it?

A new "fat map" of the UK shows that obesity may be worsening in spite of efforts to fight it and parts of southern England are succumbing for the first time.

The research was funded by the pharmaceutical company Roche, which makes an anti-obesity drug.

"As part of the strategy, this autumn we will be launching a national movement that will bring about a fundamental change in the way we live our lives.

Yes, we should probably take better care of ourselves, but someone please point out to me where any of our Constitutions state that the government, or any health agencies, are responsible for forcing us to live certain lifestyles that they (the agencies/govt) approve of!!

God/dess did NOT give us free will so that some 'person/s' somewhere could try to take it away. Free will means WE get to make our own decisions, for better or worse.

Canada is into this full speed also. It appears that 'extra weight' is an epidemic of pandemic proportions.

"Obesity is the new Canadian epidemic," Dr. Richard Tytus, McMaster University associate professor and CON member, told CMA delegates.

"The Canadian Obesity Network is ideally situated to help the medical community by providing tools and learning opportunities based on the latest available scientific evidence that physicians need to effectively prevent and treat obesity. The CMA's resolution is a call to action to address this important issue."

To think that all these years I believed that the public health agencies were designed to deal with contagious diseases, and things that were not in the public's control. Correct me if I'm wrong BUT..........isn't eating the responsibility of each individual? Isn't WHAT we eat within OUR control? Since when did overeating become a "health issue" warranting government intervention?

Junkfood Science did a posting about an article in Medscape Nurses which stated the BMI's OVER 25 were considered OBESE.

The Call to Arms went on to report that “obesity can be defined as a body mass index rating of greater than 25” — [thereby, creating a new definition of obesity that now also includes every “overweight” person in the country].

I know they lowered the BMI guides years ago, and created 30 million NEW obese people overnight, BUT even those guidelines state that obesity is a BMI OVER 30 (not 25)!!!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Millions of Americans became "fat" Wednesday -- even if they didn't gain a pound -- as the federal government adopted a controversial method for determining who is considered overweight.

It's getting pretty bad when so-called professionals are changing definitions at will.

The real question is: How much longer are we going to tolerate all this bullying, fear-mongering, blame/victim nonsense?

I thought we were living in a free country. I'm sure the British and Canadians are thinking the same thing too. So exactly WHAT is going on that the masses have turned into passive, docile sheep?

If this is the future, then "beam me up Scotty", it's getting too crazy down here for me.

In The National, Burhan Wazir reviews Ziauddin Sardar's "Balti Britain: A Journey Through the British Asian Experience," published by Granta Books. [via 3quarksdaily]

Anyone living in London in the late Nineties couldn't fail to notice that the city's British Asian population was basking in its own Britpop moment. On Brick Lane, in the city's traditionally poor East End, new restaurants and bars opened their doors to an influx of young artists attracted to cheap rents and good transport links in the borough of Tower Hamlets. Bangladeshi teenagers in Union Jack T-shirts patrolled the area with their pet boxer dogs, the status symbols du jour of national pride. Musicians like Talvin Singh, Asian Dub Foundation and Nitin Sawhney graduated from the ethnic press to the glossy pages of style magazines like The Face, Dazed & Confused and iD. Fans of those artists could even subscribe to a new magazine called Second Generasion - the title probably seemed clever at the time, but has aged with the same grace as Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, a Prince album from the era. Around the same time, Eastern Eye, the BBC's weekend magazine show, began broadcasting Bollywood news and Asian current affairs, and the cast of Goodness Gracious Me dredged all humour from every available British Asian stereotype. Even cinema audiences weren't immune to the delights of the Asian subcontinent: both East is East and Bend it Like Beckham played to packed screens for weeks.
