It is a fact that one of the founders of DeGeeked.com has a BFA in photography from a fancy art school in New York City, so we have a pretty good idea who is behind the latest string of photography-related posts. That said, he knows his stuff, so check these out, because they are special.

But wait, that's only four posts. The title says "5 Wicked Awesome Photography-related Posts." Yeah, we know, we can count. We're the geeks, remember!

The fifth post isn't in the above list because it wasn't written by our resident photography expert; it was written by (and we're very excited about this) DeGeeked.com's very first Guest Author, Christo van Gemert! Cool, huh? You know what's even cooler? He's from South Africa and an actual professional writer! Here's his very brief bio:

Christo hails from South Africa, a surprisingly tech-friendly country. He's a journalist for Digital Life magazine, and has been writing about computers, gadgets, games and the internet since 2002. It's nice to know there is at least one agency brave enough to make a few statements regarding your level of honesty. Just one problem? You didn't tell the world the full story not to mention the fact that you have never sent me any letters. If you had sent me a letter like you said you did, it's possible I would apologize and possibly even endorse the first and only honest agency in Nikolaev. Beyond you lying to support your sweet innocence your post is full of carefully worded lies. I commend you for the creative writing and hope someday you consider writing fiction as a second career.

It's nice to know your agency is on the verge of going out of business you are so poor from scamming all the unsuspecting victims with your well trained twenty year olds. You and I both know how you make all your money. But? Just so the truth is really told here, why don't you write a real post and tell everyone how you really make all your money. While you are at it, why don't you tell the world about all the other dishonest agencies in Nikolaev and help stop the outright theft of the rest of your well organized group.

By the way? Since your post, my readership has tripled. Thanks to you, more people know the real truth.

Which web sites are you affiliated with?? Surely you are proud of the service you provide, RIGHT????

How many hours does it take to send out a letter and turn it into cash?

How many times a day do you send out a letter to a man when the lady doesn't exist?

How many times a day do you send out letters and the girl has no idea you are using her name and profile?

How many profiles do you have that aren't current but are still in your catalogue just to impress your victims?

How often do you tell a girl to go out and have a nice dinner with a man just to make him happy after he's paid you fifty bucks?

What is the percentage of your girls who actually already have a boyfriend or are married and have no intention of ever falling in love with any man from another country?

I think this is a good start to try and make sense out of what you are doing to victims around the world.

The TRUTH about how Marriage Agencies Operate in Nikolaev

I’m the manager of one Nikolaev marriage agency that was wrongly targeted and defamed by a man going by the name of “Stan Jensen”. We were accused by him of scamming male clients of RussianLoveMatch.com by paying our ladies for the time they spend chatting online. As the evidence of his claims he showed an announcement we printed in a local paper and without offering a translation into english claimed it was proof positive that we and RussianLoveMatch.com pay women to chat on their site.

What he didn’t say was that this announcement was not for the female clients of our agency, but for the employees of it, our interpreters. It was acknowledged there that we were looking for the girls who know English, that we have the best conditions of work and that we pay 50/50 for the work. By 50/50 we mean that we pay 50 % of the cost of the letter to the translator.

If you do the math we could not afford to stay in business if we payed our female clients to chat. We pay out to our translators 50% of what we receive, we also pay out of our own pockets all the utilities and fees to keep our offices open to the ladies, including computers, webcams, and internet services as well as pay out of our own pocket for the additional services we offer the women to help them find love as free make up sessions and photo shoots done by professionals. Many of our girls do not have home computers or digital cameras and if we did not offer these services for free they would have increased difficulty in creating their profile and accessing services online. Simply put, if we payed the women as well we could not eat.

5.Duelul
Practicate pe scara larga in Europa, intre secolele 15-20, duelurile au fost, in primul rand, un apanaj al membrilor nobilimii. In mod obisnuit, duelurile nu erau altceva decat o lupta consensuala intre doua persoane de sex barbatesc, inarmate cu sabii sau pistoale, care urmau un cod strict de reguli. Motivele care declansau un duel aveau la baza, de cele mai multe ori, chestiuni de reglare a onoarei. In mod traditional, ambii participanti la duel erau insotiti de cate un reprezentant de incredere si un asistent. De asemenea, la locul duelului era prezent un preot si un reprezentat al autoritatilor. Scopul duelului nu era neaparat acela de a ucide adverarul, cat de a-l umili si a obtine astfel satisfactie. Pana la inceputul secolului 18, in dueluri erau folosite numai spadele, pentru ca de la acea data, duelistii sa recurga la pistoale. Gestul prin care se provoca un duel era, cel mai adesea, acela de a scoate manusa si a plezni dusmanul cu ea peste fata. Duelurile au fost interzise prin lege in orice tara a lumii.
4.Sati – Arderea Vaduvelor
Cel mai cunoscut rit funerar al hindusilor a fost Sati. In timpul acestei dramatice procesiuni mortuare avea loc o adevarata executie, executia vaduvei barbatului decedat care conform ritualului, trebuia sa se arunce si ea in rugul care mistuia cadavrul sotului, pentru a-l insoti in lumea de dincolo. Acest act de sinucidere a sotiei era incurajat nu doar de traditia milenara a fenomenului Sati ci si de rudele sale. Se presupunea ca actul de Sati trebuia sa fie unul voluntar pentru tanara vaduva. Exista, de altfel, numeroase relatari istorice care afirma ca majoritatea actelor de Sati erau indeplinite de vaduve din pura convingere. In rarele cazuri cand sotia nu vroia sa se sinucida de dragul sotului, ingrozita fiind de imaginea terifianta a rugului funerar, rudele acesteia o legau pur si simplu, dupa care o aruncau in flacari. Explicatiile asupra aparitiei si mentinerii unui astfel de obicei macabru sunt de cele mai multe ori confuze si fac apel la specificitatea si complexitatea stravechii civilizatii hinduse. Una dintre explicatii se refera la statutul mizerabil care il avea o vaduva din India, dupa moartea sotului sau, singurul care o proteja si putea sa-i asigure hrana, haine si adapost. Dupa moartea acestuia, averea sotului era confiscata si impartita intre rudele de sange. De cele mai multe ori, vaduva era aruncata in strada, fara nici un mijloc de subzistenta, mai ales daca nu avea copii. In cazurile in care decedatul era un rajah bogat care avea mai multe sotii, acestea o fortau pe cea mai tanara dintre ele sa accepte Sati. In prezent, legislatia indiana interzice cu desavarsire acest obicei.
3. Castrarea
Aceasta practica groaznica a aparut in vechime si s-a mentinut de-a lungul timpului in mai multe culturi ale lumii. Prima castrare in masa, retinuta de sursele istorice, se refera la edictul dat de regina asiriana Semiramida, conform caruia orice barbat care se opune ideii de a fi condus de o regina, sa fie castrat in public de calaii regali. Cea mai mare hecatomba sexuala apartine totusi faraonului egiptean Menephta. Pentru a marca succesul sau in luptele cu libienii, Menephta a hotarat mutilarea sexuala in masa a mai mult de 13 000 de prizonieri capturati in urma campaniilor sale militare. Oribilul eveniment a avut loc acum 2 300 de ani, conform hieroglifelor de pe piramida din Karnak. Astfel, in acea cumplita zi, din ordinul faraonului au fost retezate organele sexuale a 6 generali libieni, 6359 soldati libieni, 222 soldati sirculi, 542 soldati etrusci si 6111 greci. Organele taiate au fost aduse pe o platforma imensa in fata faraonului, cel care a ordonat aruncarea lor in desertul libian…In China Antica, castrarea a functionat ca o pedeapsa pentru viol pana in preajma dinastiei Sui, cand castrarea a devenit cerere necesara pentru a ajunge functionar al curtii imperiale. Sumbra cutuma a luat amploare, astfel incat, la sfarsitul dinastiei Ming, existau circa 70 000 de eunuci in Palatul Interzis din Pekin. Obiceiul a scazut in intensitate astfel incat, in anul 1912, cand a fost instaurata Republica Chineza, mai traiau doar 420 eunuci. In civilizatia musulmana, orice barbat care lucra in preajma seraiurilor trebuia castrat fara exceptie. Practica castrarii testiculare a fost una frecventa in cadrul corurilor de baieti care cantau imnuri religioase in cadrul Bisericii Catolice. Ultima referire la aceasta situatie dateaza din anul 1890, atunci cand un edict din Vatican aminteste ca tinerii baieti erau inca castrati si la acea data, pentru a-si pastra vocile de copii.
2. Legarea picioarelor
Chinezii au sustinut timp de milenii ca acesta practica face ca femeile sa fie irezistibil de frumoase. Chiar circula o zicala conform careia chiar si o fata urata are sanse sa se marite daca i se leaga talpile picioarelor din copilarie. Legarea talpilor fetitelor chineze pentru a stopa astfel procesul natural de crestere, este un obicei mai vechi de 1000 de ani. Chinezii incepeau sa infasoare picioarele fetitelor inca de cand acesti copii aveau varsta de 4 ani. Datorita legaturilor stranse, oasele labei piciorului si degetele erau fracturate repetat pana cand se deformau. Scopul final era obtinerea unor picioare mutilate care nu depaseau 10-15 cm chiar si in cazul unei femei in varsta de 30 de ani. Pentru inceput, picioarele erau imbaiate zilnic intr-o solutie fierbinte, compusa din diferite ceaiuri de plante, amestecate cu sange de porc sau caine. Acest amestec lichid dizolva carnea necrozata sau putreda, vindecand in acelasi timp ranile. Apoi unghiile picioarelor erau smulse cu clestele pentru a se preveni cresterea acestora. Fiecare deget era rupt si bandajat in fese umede care, pe masura ce se uscau, strangeau si micsorau piciorul, impingand oaele fracturate spre calcai. Chinezii considerau o astfel de femeie cu talpile diforme ca fiind extrem de atragatoare din punct de vedere sexual…
Acest obicei a fost interzis de regimul comunist. In prezent, mai traiesc in China aproximativ 120 de batrane care au avut picioarele legate din copilarie. Evident, se deplaseaza doar in scaunul cu rotile.
1.Automumificarea
Automumificarea, probabil cel mai straniu obicei descoperit in panoplia traditiilor neobisnuite ale umanitatii, a fost intalnita doar in Japonia si are la baza un amestec de credinte, budiste, shintoiste si tibetane. Preotii budisti care alegeau sa fie niste sfinti in viata, al caror corp nu intra in putrefactie nici dupa zeci de ani de la moartea lor, aveau un drum greu de strabatut, si o motivatie imposibil de inteles pentru oamenii din prezent.
Sokushinbutsu era denumirea acestor preoti ale caror mumii au fost decoperite in muntii din nordul Japoniei, mai precis in prefectura Yamagata. Pana in prezent au fost descoperite intre 16-24 mumii japoneze.
Candidatul la statutul de sfant in viata sau mumie vie, trebuia sa-si petreaca ultimii ani din viata urmand o dieta stricta alaturi de unele ritualuri nedezvaluite nici pana in prezent de catre preoti. Dieta sa stricta se compunea doar din nuci si seminte. In paralel, calugarul efectua zilnic o serie de exercitii fizice epuizante care aveau ca scop arderea tuturor rezervelor de grasime din corp. Pasul urmator era mult mai dur. Timp de trei ani, calugarul se hranea doar cu un amestec de scoarta de copac si cu radacinile unor plante specifice zonei. Renunta si la bautul apei, astamparandu-si setea doar cu un ceai cu grad inalt de toxicitate, realizat din esenta arborelui Urushi, esenta din care, in mod normal, se fabricau lacuri si vopsele. Aceasta fiertura provoaca voma impreuna cu o pierdere rapida a fluidelor corpului. Dar cel mai puternic efect al ceaiului Urushi era reprezentat de capacitatea de a ucide toate bacteriile din intregul tub digestiv, alaturi de otravirea tesuturilor corpului astfel incat viermii sa nu le consume dupa moartea calugarului. In final, calugarul se incuia intr-un cavou de piatra putin mai mare decat propriul corp, cavou prevazut cu o mica deschizatura care sa-i permita viitoarei mumii vii sa respire. Asezat in pozitia lotusului, calugarul suna un clopot in fiecare zi pentru ca preotii de afara sa stie ca este in viata. Cand sunetul clopotului inceta, mormantul era sigilat.

10.Mortii oferiti vulturilor
Inmormantarea Cerului, dupa cum mai este cunoscut acest ritual al mortilor, este inca o practica des intalnita in preajma satelor din Tibet. Cand un tibetan moare, acesta nu este ingropat. Riturile de trecere de pe aceste meleaguri sunt si ele imbibate de preceptele budismului tibetan Vajrayana, la fel ca fiecare aspect al vietii cotidiene de aici. Conform acestei credinte, corpul uman trebuie sa se intoarca in elementele primordiale din care a fost plamadit imediat ce sufletul il paraseste. Daca trupul omului poate sa hranesca o alta faptura dupa moartea acestuia, cu atat mai bine. Iar cum in ierarhia vietatilor din Tibet vulturii plesuvi sunt deasupra viermilor, cadavrele nu mai sunt ingropate ci oferite vulturilor, pe stanci folosite de sute de ani in acest scop. Odata ce un membru al oricarei famili si-a dat obstescul sfarsit, rudele sale purced in aceeasi zi sa-i ofere cadavrul vulturilor. Vulturii plesuvi si zaganii asteapta planad in cercuri largi ca oamenii sa-si incheie slujba religiasa si sa paraseasca locul. In momentul in care nu a mai ramas decat scheletul, ritualul continua. Rudele se ajuta de baroase si topoare pentru a macina oasele defunctului. Bucatile infime de oase sunt apoi amestecate cu faina de orz si oferite ciorilor si corbilor astfel incat orice faptura a divinitatii sa profite de ultimele ramasite umane. Partidul comunist chinez a interzis aceasta traditie in anul 1960, fapt ce a dus aproape la pierderea sa. Totusi, in urma a numeroase revolte ale tibetanilor, regimul comunist de la Beijing a legalizat din nou sumbra traditie in anul 1980.
9.Institutia gheiselor
Situate undeva la granita dintre prostitutie si dame de companie, statutul gheiselor a ramas neclar chiar si in zilele noastre. Daca la nivelul anului 1930 existau 80 000 de gheise, astazi, pe intregul teritoriu al Japoniei nu traiesc mai mult de 10 000. Majoritatea gheiselor activau in capitala Tokio, unde in prezent mai exista doar 100 de asemenea femei, certificate oficial de autoritatile nipone. Alegerea de a deveni o gheisa este un act voluntar, care este reglementat de lege. In trecut, doar femeile a caror mama fusese o gheisa, puteau continua aceasta traditie. In ciuda acestor noi aspecte, antrenamentul si pregatirea gheiselor a ramas la fel de riguros in cadrul scolilor care se straduiesc sa mentina acest obicei. Tinerele fete trebuie sa dea dovada de o mare ambitie, dublata de un talent pe masura, pentru a excela in artele dansului, cantecului si muzicii japoneze. Accentul se pune totusi pe rafinarea artei conversatiei si stapanirea tehnicilor din Shunga, artele sexuale japoneze. In ciuda acestui aspect si a sutelor de controverse create in jurul subiectului, gheisele din liniile traditionale nu ofera servicii sexuale clientilor.
8.Concubinajul
La multe popoare, conceptul de concubinaj avea un inteles diferit de acceptiunea moderna a acestui termen. Astfel, la multe triburi africane prin concubinaj se intelege situatia in care o fata sau o femeie accepta o relatie matrimoniala fara casatorie cu un barbat bogat sau cu un statut social ridicat. In mod obisnuit, barbatul respectiv avea o sotie oficiala pe langa una sau mai multe concubine, in functie de cate putea intretine financiar si material. Concubinele aveau mai putine drepturi decat sotia oficiala si nu primeau nimic la moartea barbatului. Totusi, copii lor aveau un statut similar celor pe care barbatul i-a avut cu sotia oficiala.
Conform datelor istorice, concubinajul era ales in mod voluntar de catre fata sau de familia acesteia, drept un mijloc rezonabil de a asigura siguranta materiala a fetei. Concubinajul involuntar sau fortat ducea deseori la cazuri de sclavie sexuala sau prostitutie.
7.Sacrificiile umane
Actul de ucidere a unei fiinte umane, asociat cu oferirea victimei drept ofranda catre zei, a fost o practica straveche, atestata la majoritatea populatilor umane de pe intreaga planeta. Dintre vechile culturi care au practicat sacrificiile umane, aztecii se detaseaza net, urmati fiind de mayasi. Pe plan mondial victimele erau ucise ritual intr-o maniera despre care se credea ca i-ar incanta pe zei. Victimele erau de obicei prizonieri de razboi, copii nou nascuti, criminali, prostituate sau virgine. Toti acestia aveau parte de moduri de executie variate precum decapitarea, arderea pe rug, extractia inimii, aruncarea in groapa cu fiare salbatice sau ingroparea de viu. Odata cu trecerea timpului, sacrificiile umane au devenit din ce in ce mai rare. Majoritatea religiilor le condamna cu vehementa, in timp ce legislatia internationala le interzice cu desavarsire. Cu toate acestea, in zilele noastre exita zone izolate de pe Terra unde mai exista astfel de practici.
6. Seppuku
Cunoscut sub denumirea improprie si vulgara de Hara Kiri (taie burta), Seppuku a fost o parte integranta a codului Bushido dupa ale carui precepte traiau si se comportau samuraii din Japonia medievala. Acesti razboinici recurgeau in mod traditional la Seppuku in momentele in care riscau sa cada in mainile dusmanilor, aveau de indeplinit o datorie de onoare sau trebuiau sa spele povara unei jigniri sau rusini.
Samuraii erau, de asemenea, datori sa execute Seppuku la comanda unui mare senior, daimyo. Razboinicii cazuti in dizgratie aveau dreptul de a alege intre seppuku si executia calaului. Samuraii erau singurii carora le era permis acest mod de sinucidere. Nevestele samurailor trebuiau sa obtina permisiunea scrisa de a efectua acest ultim act. Without a single shadow of a doubt the key driver to this site is my photo of the Atrium Roof at the RAC Club, Pall Mall. I am suprised to see that in various combinations of terms this is the photo that brings in most viewers and readers from within Wordpress.com.

The most popular posts so far have been the ones below, which is quite different.

If you look on the related Flickr account the searching picture gets even more strange. If you look at the searches on images.yahoo.com that have driven traffic the top 10 have been the following...

Which either tells you something about Yahoo or something about my photos - I am not sure which. Perform the same trick with images.google.com and the top 10 are as follows.

All of which by my reckoning means people want to see pictures of architecture and kids tv characters. So I am off now to take Peppa Pig and Fifi Flowertot to the RAC Club in Pall Mall for a photo shoot...

Was ist das perfekte Ende einer Woche in den iTunes Top 10??? Richtig. Der Einstieg in die Top 5. Und genau DAS ist "It Won't Ever Be The Same" heute schließlich gelungen. Nachdem der Song also bereits am vergangenen Wochende bei Musicload die Top 5 schaffte, steht er heute an gleicher Stelle bei iTunes. Ich weiß ich wiederhole mich ... aber ich bin sprachlos. Dass ich mit dem Song so ein "glückliches Händchen" haben würde, hatte ich zwar (natürlich) gehofft, aber gerechnet habe ich damit nicht wirklich. Thank God! Und Euch da draußen!!! Gefreut habe ich mich natürlich auch über die vielen Besuche des Video-Clips bei YouTube. Echt krass: Seit meinem letzten Blog sind nur ein paar Tage vergangen und die Anzahl der Hits hat sich auf 20.000 VERDOPPELT!!!

FirstCom Music congratulates James Bunton, artist and composer for Chronicles of Hip Hop, for his Billboard Top Ten Hit “Leavin’”. The song “Leavin’,” performed by Jesse McCartney, became one of the biggest singles in Hollywood Records history, #1 for six weeks on Top 40 radio with over 10,000 spins, and charted as high as #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Bunton, also known as “The Movement,” is featured on FirstCom’s Chronicles of Hip Hop COHH-3 Hip Hop R’N’B Old Skool.

About James Bunton and The Movement:

Bunton got his start in music working for Mark and Chris "Tricky" Stewart ("Umbrella", "Touch My Body"). It was through this experience he was able to watch and learn from some of best producers and songwriters in the game from Laney Stewart, Kevin "KD" Davis The - Dream, Kuk Harrell, Tab Nkhereanye, Robin Thicke, Sean Hall.

It wasn't until 2000 that his career as a songwriter/producer really took off. “I met my partner Corron Cole and we formed the The Movement in 2001,” says Bunton. “We just instantly clicked and started this music journey. We had our growing pains. براین اساس گروه خودروسازی تویوتا با فروش 4.818 ميليون دستگاه خودرو درصدر ليست قرار گرفت و جنرال‌موتورز با كاهش سه درصدي و با فروش 4.540 ميليون دستگاه خودرو رتبه دوم را از آن خود كرد.

10 PocketPC-Tools

Da ich gerade mal wieder am Rumspielen mit einem PocketPC bin (Meine bessere Hälfte hat sich ein neues Handy zugelegt, ebenfalls auf CE-Basis, ich hab daher ihren alten IPaq H3800 überlassen bekommen der nun meinen alten Jornada so langsam ablöst) und wieder feste Programme suche die ich installieren könnte, hier eine kurze Übersicht was eigentlich immer drauf sein sollte um die Funktionalität des Gerätes auf ein sinnvolles Niveau zu bringen:

Mediaplayer - das im Originalzustand vorhandene MS-Teil ist eigentlich gnadenlos entfernt von sinnvoll, besser funktionieren Winampaq oder GSPlayer
GB-Emulator - da die nativ vorhandenen Spiele aufgrund der kleinen Zielgruppe meist etwas sparsam ausfallen ist ein Emulator für eine richtige Konsole unumgänglich. Auf meinem Jornada (SH3-CPU) musste ich meist auf PalmGB (kostenpflichtig) zurückgreifen, auf dem ipaq versuche ich es jetzt mit Gnuboy.
Taschenrechner - klingt trivial, es kann aber manchmal verdammt praktisch sein wenn der Taschenrechner eine Vorrangautomatik besitzt.. meine Empfehlung: Calc98
PDF-Reader - Ich habe ein tragbares Gerät mit kleinem Bildschirm... warum sollte ich keine Ebooks darauf lesen? (i swore the hypocrites oath!)
Dateimanager - Der mitgelieferte Explorer ist im Laufe der Zeit tatsächlich erheblich besser geworden, das ändert aber nichts daran dass RescoExplorer (kostenpflichtig) oder GSFinder+ (noch besser und kostenlos) dem Ding noch immer um Jahrzehnte vorraus sind.
Task-Switcher - Das Wechseln zwischen einzelnen, laufenden Programmen ist nur mit MS-Tools noch immer nahezu unmöglich. Die meisten PPC-Hersteller liefern daher ihre eigenen Programme mit, aber das beste ist imho noch immer PocketNav.
IP-Telefon - Lohnt sich leider nur auf Geräten mit WLAN wirklich (mein Jornada vlt. noch, wenn ich Skype auf die 16MB internem Speicher quetschen kann, für den Ipaq fehlt noch eine SD-Wlankarte und Cindys neues Handy kann das natürlich schon von Haus aus)
Wörterbuch - Meine Empfehlung bisher (Tests erfolgten nur unter SH3-Software) SlovoED (leider kostenpflichtig), sofortige Resultate und gut zum durchblättern
Web-Browser - Leider kann ich auf diesem Gebiet nicht viele Erfahrungswerte liefern. Was ich aber mit Sicherheit sagen kann ist dass der PocketIE totaler Müll ist. Der wurde auch seit meinem Jornada nicht wirklich verbessert. Opera soll ganz gut sein und Mozilla Minimo soll ebenfalls vorhanden sein.
Netzwerktools - Ich hatte schon alle möglichen Sachen in dieser Richtung auf meinem Jornada installiert, leider war das meiste grob gesagt Müll. Programme die die grundsätzlichen Funktionen wie Ping, ARP Requests oder Timeserver-Abfragen ermöglichen gibt es durchaus, doch alles was darüber hinaus geht wird schwer. (Wlan-Entdeckungs-Software gibt es teilweise noch, doch dazu verwende ich lieber mein Notebook.)

Diese Liste stellt wie immer keinen Anspruch der Vollständigkeit oder inhaltlicher Richtigkeit.

BTW: das passt doch eigentlich auch ideal zu /home/zeros "Personal Toolbox".. auch wenn das Projekt wohl als gescheitert angesehen werden muss weil leider kaum jemand mitgemacht hat.
