So I was just googling images. Cause I was trying to put album covers on all of my songs on itunes and i came across the image above. I clicked on it to find out my teachers from when I danced Tahitian were interviewed by a magazine. I danced with the group for a good 5 years, but I had danced since I was about 8. Polynesian dancing became and essential part of my life, which I miss so much. The practices, the people, culture, competitions I miss it all. The rush of going out and dancing like you have never danced before its great (for lack of better words). Right about when I had to stop dancing they started up this new concept, theme and show called Amerikanesia. It was about our story. The story of our group, the dancers, who we were. I was apart of the first original show before it got reformed and made it big. With the improved form of the show they were asked to perform in Vegas at Planet Hollywood. The group is doing big things, not that it wasn't before. I am so proud of them. We faced adversity with this show because it was so different. I am glad they are getting recognition for being bold and going beyond the traditional norm.

GOOD LUCK NONOSINA!!! I love and miss you all.

Mai no està tancat.

I’m a fan of all things Disney(not so much Hannah Montana, but hey, I can’t like everyth

I'm a fan of all things Disney(not so much Hannah Montana, but hey, I can't like everything, right) So, last night I was looking up some info on Transformers 2: Revengeof the Fallen (that's what it's called...for now). In my search, I came across an article saying how racist and unrealistic movies are today. Specifically referring to each Disney princess. WTF?!? I can't find the site, but here's what I can recall about what was said about each princess.

Snow White

She's fat! WTF?!? I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall her age being between 14-16, so of course she's gonna have some meat on her bones. When did that become so wrong? Also, she's far from being fat.

Cinderella

Can;t remember exactly what was said about her, but it was something about the blonde hair and blue eyes. Is there something wrong with that? Was she supposed to have the same hair and eyes as Snow White?

Sleeping Beauty

She's a clumsy, lazy bitch! Apparently, pricking your finger on a spinning wheel makes you clumsy and lazy.

**Side Note...according to my Disney group Maleficient seems to be the consensus fav villain followed by Scar, Jafar, and Hades**

Ariel

She's too skinny and needs to put some clothes on. I agree she could do with some meat on her bones, but she swims around all day. Is she supposed to look like Ursala? As far as the needing to put some clothes on...well, when was the last time you saw a mermaid swimming around with a flannel shirt on or something? Seriously!

Eilonwy

Chances are you don't know who this is. She's from The Black Cauldron (not exactly the most popular of the Disney movies)
Anyway, the complaint about her was her name wasn't easily said and she was another blonde. Her name!?!? Seriously?!? Next!

Jasmine (my personal fav princess)

I remember this one almost word for word...She's showing too much skin, she's not dark enough, shes not wearing a veil, her hair isn't long enough, and she doesn't have a mid-eastern accent, and she's too voluptuous and bouncy. My guess is that whoever wrote that article I was looking at last night must've been of Mid Eastern/Indian decent, becuse it sounded like he was deeply offended by the site of her.

Meg

She's a slut. Umm...not quite sure I agree...but I don't totally disagree, but that's her character.

Esmarelda

She can't dance and there were no gypsies in France. I'm not so sure about there not being gypsies in France, since she is a character in the actual book, and as far as the not being able to dance...well, that sounds like he was just trying to find something to pick on her about

Mulan

She's too "mannish". OMG! She's impersonate a man to save her father, of course shes gonna be mannish. WTF?!?

Pocahontas

I don't too much care for this movie, but still, there's no need to say she needs to lose some muscle tone because she looks like an Amazon bodybuilder type rather than a Native American princess. She's supposed to have some definition, like Ariel, she doesn't just sit around a castle all day, but to call her an Amazon is ridiculous.

Lilo & Nani

As with Snow White, he seems to think they're fat. Unlike with Snow White, they're supposed to be a little more "realistic". Of course, the artist that drew them also seems to like drawing big butts...lol

coming soon...
Tiana (The Princess and the Frog 12/25/2009)

yes...this will be a 2-d hand drawn movie *GASP*

His complaint was that she looks like an ape from the side and has too many ethnic features. Of course, I could go on for a whole different blog on the stuff I've heard and read about people complaining about this one and how many times they've changed it. My personal opinion is there's nothing wrong with her, and until the move actually comes out, there's no reason to complain

Rapunzel (2010?)

She's not blonde, she looks too fat, her hair is too short, and Kristin Chenowith's (Glinda from Wicked and she also is in Pushing Daisies) voice is going to drive him insane. Ok...dude complains about the others being blonde, but has a cow about Rapunzel? From this pic, you can't even really see how long her hair is. I would wager this is early on and her hair gets longer later on. Not going to dignify the weight comment. She thinner than Snow White. WTF?!? As far as Kristin Chenowith...I can see how it can get annoying, but so can anyone else's .

So, as you can see. The guy that wrote this had some issues. Notice Tinkerbell was left off. He had nothing bad to say about her. It was actually quite graphic in the praise he gave about her and what he wanted to do to her. I'll leave it at that.

I respect other people's opinions and all, but good grief, there's no need to go about criticizing stuff just for the sake of it. Each of these characters was created by different artists ant different periods of time and also represent different cultures and eras. The Disney people knew what they were doing when they created them. Besides, they're for enjoyment and entertainment, not criticizing.

I heard about this a while ago. Disney has finally got their head on straight, realizing the old formula always brought them money, and has decided to produce again a hand-drawn animated musical complete with a princess. The trouble is it's been stirring up trouble.

The Princess and the Frog (traditionally the fairy tale is called The Frog Princess) will be about a girl named Maddy--er wait--Tiana who lives in 1920s New Orleans Jazz Age. Why the big fuss? Well, she's the first black princess, which I thought was a progressive step forward, but I guess we're not progressing as quickly as I'd thought.

Originally named Maddy, the character was supposed to also be the chambermaid of a spoiled rich white girl (can you see where the Politically Correct crew is going to go into overhaul already?). Despite the fact that Snow White and Cinderella both began their stories as basically chambermaids, it's apparently too demeaning for the PC crew. (God forbid any of us have been caught cleaning for money--I have.) Maddy was also thought to be too "slavish" so she got the change to Tiana. (Suppose I'd better inform my friend Madeleine not to let anyone call her Maddy for short). And then of course, instead of realizing that The Frog Princess is actually the real name of a real fairytale and not meant to be demeaning in anyway, the PC crew made certain to see to that, hence The Princess and the Frog. (This I don't really care about either way, just kind of adds another straw.)

Shame on you Disney, for trying to make yourself more ethnic.

PC crews are also upset that supposedly the prince will turn out to be white. Instead of thinking, "Hooray for racial integration and showing the world we value people for people and not skin color." they're thinking, well, the big white man gotta come down and rescue the poor Tiana. *sigh* (see here for Jennifer Daniels, BET, specific comments, which I thought were pretty much racist)

Disney, I suspect even with the changes you make no one on the PC crew will be happy.

Despite all that, hopefully we'll get a good film in the end (even if "white man" Randy Newman is doing the soundtrack, I mean really, can we say chip on the shoulder PC crew?) and perhaps somehow take that progressive step forward. I'm looking forward to the movie. I missed the traditional films and it'll be nice to see the princesses include Tiana in the mix.

I'm sorry, but all this uproar disgusts me. Look at the art, Tiana is gorgeous, from the little preview she sounds like a woman with some fantastic attitude (not just a helpless Sleeping Beauty), the animation style looks like what we'd expect from Disney.

And please, let's leave the PC at home for once

I won't deny having some reservations about this given all the hoopla and rewrites that have taken place, but I'm being nice today so I'll focus on the positives of what I saw.
One of our favorite "Dreamgirls" Anika Noni Rose is providing the voice and still sounding a little bit like "Lorelle" :-) She's a good choice IMO. And the drawing is beautiful! she really is a pretty Cartoon. But why the snaggle-toothed cajun Lighting bug??

What say you??

Disney has just released a new treaser trailer for their new animted movie: The Princess and the Frog. (Formaly The Frog Princess.) This will be Disney's first 2-D animated movie since Home on the Range (2004) . The film will be an American fairy tale musical, set in New Orleans, during the 1920's jazz age. Tiana, the main character, will be the Disney's first black princess. The following is the teaser trailer.

I actually heard about this movie in 2007 when I was watching the Daily Show . Their take on Disney is spot on!

The Princess and the Frog will be Disney’s first animated film with an African-American prince

The Princess and the Frog will be Disney's first animated film with an African-American princess. I have enjoyed Disney films since I was little, but it will be nice to see a black princess on the screen, finally. That is, if the movie is ever released. You see, Disney is having a little trouble in the story department. The film's original title, "The Frog Princess (which I happen to like)," was scraped because apparently some people (media people, webmasters, etc.) had a problem with it.

People also complained that the main character's name -- Maddy -- sounded too much like a slave name. So Maddie was chaned to Tiana. Although I don't necessarily agree, I do think that the name Maddie does not sound very princess-like. Tiana sounds better, but personally, I would have gone with a name like Tess or Violet.

Another issue that arose was the race of Tess's -- I mean Tiana's -- white love interest. Apprently Tiana pines after him, and that did not sit well with critics. Disney could have flipped the script and had the love interest pine for Tiana. Afterall, only two other princesses, Cinderella and Ariel, actually sought out their men. All the other characters' romances that I can think of were initiated by the men. But Disney chose to make the white love interest of Middle Eastern decent, instead.

There have also been complaints about Tiana's fairy godmother being of the Voodoo sort. That complaint I agree with. None of the other fairy godmothers were Voodoo witches, and I don't think Voodoo fits very well with the fun nature of an animated Disney film. Voodoo is rather dark, and a conjure woman is not very fairy godmother-like. An everyday, run-of-the-mill, light-filled, magic wand bearing fairy godmother will do, thanks.

Tiana's occupation (chambermaid) and the story's setting (New Orleans) are two other issues that the animation department has heard complaints about. Personally, I don't think Tiana should have a job. What kind of fairy tale princess has a job? I guess each one has a different story, but that's bordering on the realistic. Tiana should live in a land far, far way with her animal friends, not in a modern, distinguishable location. To say that this "land far away" is somewhere in America will suffice, but it shouldn't have an exact location. That's too Anastasia-like. Anastasia was a princess, but she was a real princess, not a fairy princess.

It will be interesting to see how the movie turns out, and to see if it does actually come out in 2009, as planned.

All My life I've been waiting for a black Disney cartoon,
!

I grew up during Disney's cartoon revival. "The Little Mermaid" (yes I still know all of the songs) "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladin"(which was filled with it's own racial stereotypes), "Pocahontas", and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" were big deals in my time. I remember everyone's excitement when we found out they were going to set a cartoon in Africa. "Alright, Black people!" we thought...No, more like wild animals. In either case the "Lion King" was a great movie.

So imagine my childish delight when I heard that Disney was going to do a cartoon film with actual black people! Yay, sure I'm too old for cartoons and i have no children to blame it on, but there's no shame in my game, when it comes out I want to see it! So as more details came out I lapped them up with glee. Here was my thought process

"It's called the "Princess and the Frog"- ok that might not be too bad
"It's set in New Orleans"- Ok
"it's set in the 1920's"- alright... things weren't that great for black people back then, but "American Girl" worked it out, Maybe Disney can too.
"It's got a voudoo priestess fairy godmother"- umm... well all Disney movies have "magic." The Lion King had "voudoo" too, though it was set in Africa so that still labeling Afica and all things of african descent to be of the 'dark arts'. and not all "New Orleanders" get down with the 'hoo doo." perhaps I'm over thinking. It is a cartoon.
"She's going to win the heart of loving white man who saves her from the clutches of the evil black male "voudoo priest"- What?? She's needs to be saved by the white man from the evils of black heathenism? isn't that how they justified slavery??
"The 'princess's' name is Maddie"- Maddie? She sounds like a slave or a pet!
" She's a black chambermaid working for a spoiled, white Southern debutante."- Oh WOW! she IS a slave pet!

Eww, eewww! I don't like it! Send it, send it, send it back!
Apparently I wasn't the only one that hated it and Disney has in fact sent it back. To the drawing board of course.

The heroine has been recast as Tiana, a 19-year-old in a country that has never had a monarchy. She is now slated to live "happily ever after" with a handsome fellow who is not black – with leaks suggesting that he will be of Middle Eastern heritage and called Naveen. The race of the villain in the cartoon is reported to have also been revised.

Source

Well HOPEFULLY This version will be be much better. Every little girl deserves a princess that looks like them. Please get it right Disney or little black girls old and young have been waiting on the day when they can be princesses without being slave/maids/servants etc. Please give us our day, (or we'll revolt). On another note, I would love to see animators of color (Black, Latino, Asian, Indian, etc) step out and make something great. Let's take control of our own images!

Most wet or damp basement, garage, crawl space and lower house level conditions could be alleviated with minimum effort and expense. This is due to the fact that most water penetration occurs because rainwater run-off from the roof and yard surfaces are not properly addressed and eventually water seeps in. The ultimate cause of water penetration in any particular situation can be minor, readily apparent and fairly easily corrected. Although in some cases correction can be quite involved and costly.

When confronted with an existing water penetration condition or attempting to minimize the chance of future problems, the HouseMaster Technical Staff suggests that you start with the following inexpensive remedies first and then move up to the more difficult and costly solutions until the condition is corrected: 1. Check the gutter system and water discharge to ensure it is diverted away from the house foundation; 2. Check underground drain lines for blockage; 3. Improve the soil grade around the foundation; 4. Install a sump pipe and pump; 5. Install perimeter drains. Be sure to obtain several contractor quotes and options before proceeding with any major work.

If the current flow in both wires is the same, everything is functioning properly. If, however, more current flows in one wire than the other, there’s current leakage to ground. A GFCI can sense any current difference and cut off the power to the circuit within 1/40th of a second. This could save your life because a continuous flow through your body could be lethal. You are particularly vulnerable when on wet ground or in a damp bathroom.

GFCIs are now required for all new construction receptacles near a water source such as at exterior, garage, bathroom and kitchen locations. Whirlpools, spas and swimming pools also require GFCI protection. While GFCI’s may not have been required at the time of original construction, the HouseMaster Technical Staff recommends their installation in appropriate areas of all homes.

A reinforced base coating, which serves as a moisture barrier, is then applied directly over the insulation board. Specifically identified as a serious concern is the possibility of structural damage to wall sheathing and framing, particularly in the areas under and adjacent to windows. The primary cause for this condition appears to be infiltration through improperly sealed joints at the siding and trim work interface. As a result of the moisture retardant features of some of the EIFS components, any water that infiltrates past the surface may become entrapped and eventually cause decay of all adjacent wood components. The HouseMaster Technical Staff recommends that all EIFS clad homes be checked by a qualified inspector for evidence of moisture infiltration concerns and where required, completion of the required preventative or remedial work should be completed.

One of the primary improvements in window glazing has been the use of double or triple pane glass units that are constructed with dead air space between the panes. This construction reduces the amount of heat loss through the window. Unfortunately, the integrity of these "sealed" airtight window units is subject to failure due to improper installation or manufacturing defects or as a result of other factors that occur after installation. When they fail, moisture may infiltrate and condense on the inner surfaces, ultimately staining the window. This condition does not substantially affect the thermal benefits, but may become an aesthetic issue requiring eventual replacement on a discretionary basis.

A heat pump delivers air in the 90° - 100° F (32° - 38° C) range. The outlet temperature of a warm air furnace, however, is in the 120° - 140° F (49° - 60° C) range. So while heat pump supply temperatures may seem and feel too low, a properly designed heat pump system will actually keep the house air temperatures at acceptable levels - and at a lower cots then all-electric heating systems. Heat pump systems, however, are only economical at moderately cold temperatures. To handle very low temperature conditions most heat pump systems utilize electric resistance strip heating to supply supplemental heat.

Molds are one-type of fungi or single-cell organisms. Other similar microorganisms include mushrooms, yeast, and mildew. Mold is present everywhere—indoors and outdoors. It grows from spores which are distributed by the wind and other means. Usually the spores are inactive, but they will germinate when exposed to the right amount of moisture and warmth, and a suitable food source is present. They serve an important, positive role in nature, by helping to break down organic matter. But molds can also be harmful, both to the health of individuals and to the condition of building components. Molds can be allergenic, infectious or toxic. They can also cause damage to walls, floors, and other structural elements as well as any organic materials that will support their growth.

Consideration.

The growth of mold indoors where it can affect air quality presents the greatest concern. Mold is most likely to grow when building materials are affected by roof damage, plumbing leaks, basement water penetration or any other condition that contributes to high moisture levels. Poor maintenance and insufficient air exchanges increase the potential for major mold problems. The HouseMaster technical staff recommends that all homeowners monitor there homes for any signs of mold or conditions conducive to mold growth. All sources or cause of excess moisture should be eliminated immediately. When considering the purchase of a home, a professional home inspection is the first step in assessing conditions. This should be followed an evaluation by a qualified technician for an assessment and testing for harmful molds when conditions dictate or personal concerns exist.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself here on TRANScendGENDER. My Name is Kathryn, and I began taking my first concrete steps towards transition a few months ago. Since then I have jumped in feet first. I guess after 30 plus years of hiding my true self, I can't wait to let her out and set her loose on this world of ours! Since that time, I met some great people through a local TG group, one of those people being Tiana. Tiana got me into Yahoo 360°, where I really began to meet other girls from the larger Trans community. While not perfect, 360° did get me in touch with a lot more girls, and enabled me to feel like I was really a part of a larger community. For those of you I have already met, thank you for making me feel welcome, both on 360 and here, and for those of you I have not yet met, I look forward to getting to know you and sharing our stories and experiences. I am convinced that as long as we have each other, there is nothing that we cannot overcome in this wild and crazy world of ours. We just have to be proud and be strong!
