THAI soldiers have reoccupied the Ta Moan Thom temple and have prohibited Cambodian soldiers, government officials and journalists from entering the site, breaking an agreement reached a week ago that they would withdraw.

"Thai soldiers returned to the disputed site on August 8," Ho Bunthy, deputy commander of Border Military Unit 402, said Sunday. "They have closed the gate to the temple. Only a few Cambodian civilians are allowed access and Cambodian soldiers who want to get into the temple must be wearing civilian clothes."

Thai soldiers withdrew from Ta Moan Thom temple on August 5 after an agreement was reached between Cambodian and Thai leaders at a meeting at the O'Smach checkpoint led by San Vanna, deputy governor of Oddar Meanchey province.

Ho Bunthy said that Thai soldiers have violated the agreement reached that day and are now stationed 15 metres from the Ta Moan Thom temple, which he said is inside Cambodian territory.

"I don't understand why they have seized control of the temple again just three days after they agreed to withdraw their soldiers, nor why they don't allow Cambodian soldiers to patrol the site as was agreed at the meeting," Ho Bunthy added.

Moeung Sonn, president of the nationalistic Khmer Civilisation Foundation (KCF), told the Post that about 10 Thai soldiers at the Ta Moan Thom temple refused entry to approximately 80 Cambodians on Friday, including KCF members, nuns and 50 monks due to its status as a white (disputed) zone.

"We were refused access to the temple to pray for peace. They asked us to speak to Thai authorities about gaining access," Moeung Sonn said.

The Preah Vihear temple dispute, initially perceived as an election campaign rallying cry by the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), has not died down. Now the dispute has spread to involve the Ta Moan Thom temple.

Tensions in Cambodia are not new. Everyone recalls the hostilities that resulted in major damage to Thai businesses and the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh in 2003 after Cambodian media erroneously quoted a Thai actress as saying Angkor Wat belonged to Thailand.

Last year, the government of Cambodia assembled an audience of more than 200 investors and declared that nationalistic issues would not be a factor in the future.

''Let's put the past behind us and build the future. That was a political issue and we took responsibility (by paying compensation for the burning of the embassy),'' was the response at the time of Kong Vibol, first secretary of state for the government of Cambodia.

''Now we provide a guarantee to Thai investors in order to make them more confident.''

Cambodia, he said at the time, was among the freest countries in the region and had set itself firmly on the development path, offering a free hand to foreign investors to set up businesses. They cannot own land but can lease it for 99 years. As well, he said, Cambodia had no foreign-exchange controls on current-account transactions.

However, the temple issue has opened old wounds, and with calls already for boycotts of Thai products, Thai businessmen are feeling the heat, although publicly they do not want to admit it.

''Yes, investing in Cambodia is risky and we knew that before we even decided to put our money in the country the first time around,'' said one major investor who asked that neither he nor his company be named.

''All I want to say is if the country wants to see funds flow into the country, it will have to avoid look at ways to avoid creating a situation where investors start to fear,'' he said.

Thai investors present in Cambodia include leading conglomerates Siam Cement Plc, Charoen Pokphand Group, Thai Beverage, PTT, Mitr Phol, Khon Kaen Sugar Mills Plc and more than 100 small and medium-sized companies.

Siam Cement, which only recently opened its cement plant in Cambodia, and CP Group, have both come out to openly state that their operations there are in good shape and are not being affected from the calls for boycott. But Saha Pathanapibul Plc, the maker of Mama instant noodles, is perceived as a possible boycott target.

ICC International Plc, a member of the Chokwatana family empire that includes Saha Pathanapibul, said it was seeing minimal impact in Cambodia so far.

''The impact we have had is very minimal as the business size that we have there is very small and it is our firm's policy to not invest too much in any single country that is new to us,'' said ICC chairman Boonkiat Chokwatana.

ICC sells a number of its cosmetic and apparel products in Cambodia.

''I must say that we are used to these kinds of downturns as we have experienced them in Burma too. What we do is we wait and see how things shape up and then make a decision,'' he said.

''They usually last for a short period and things go back to normal.''

Despite the problems facing investors in the country, there are those who are brave at heart and are looking to participate in a market dominated by imported products.

With a population of 14.3 million Cambodia is ''an interesting market to be present in'', says one investor.

''Yes there are risks and we knew it after the 2003 incident, but Cambodia is a market where everything is basically imported and how many markets in this part of the world can you find where there is such a huge potential,'' he said.

''What we have to look at long-term potential and overlook the short-term issues.''

The key, he says, is to look for a business that has potential and one that is less volatile in such situations. In all cases it is critical to keep Cambodian workers happy.

''Today despite all the perceived problems, we are not experiencing anything there, but then our project is not for mass consumption either and it would take years before we start to realise our returns,'' the executive said.

The key element of doing business in countries that are developing is not just your basic business model but also includes the key element of who you know and who is your local partner. As most SMEs are unlikely to have a risk management in place, seeking a partner who can be helpful in times like this.

Many large companies have good connections to Prime Minister Hun Sen and his allies, but those that don't need reliable local partners. The larger multinationals recommend that those looking to enter the market consult with the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Despite all the problems, there has been an influx of investment into Cambodia, especially in labour-intensive industries. According to the Ministry of Commerce, exports to Cambodia grew by 71.8% in the first half of this year, the highest growth rate in five years, amid a surge in demand for Thai goods and growing trade relations.

Exports to Cambodia are expected to reach the target of $1.69 billion this year, an increase of 25%.

Phnom Penh -Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen placed the ball firmly in Thailand's court over the Preah Vihear issue, saying it was up to Bangkok to decide on withdrawing troops from the border.

Speaking to reporters in Phnom Penh, Hun Sen indicated that Thailand would have to pull out first.

"For us, there is no problem at all. The issue is that it is up to Thailand to decide to act. For us, [we are ready] any time," he said.

"The problem is the timing and how long it will take the Thai side to get a political decision from the govฌernment."

His comments came one day after Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and his Thai counterpart Tej Bunnag held talks on Monday in Siem Reap with a handful of top milฌitary officials from both countries.

The two countries agreed in prinฌciple to a redeployment of troops from the area near the 11thcentury Preah Vihear temple, where thousands of soldiers have been facing off for two weeks. After about 12 hours of talks, the foreign ministers said they would ask their governments to redeploy the troops.

Although the territorial disฌpute was not solved, the two sides agreed to continue to use "utmost restraint" to avoid an armed confrontation and to continue discussions on a bilateral basis.

Thailand's Army chief conฌfirmed that any withdrawal from the border area would take time.

"The resolution from the meeting between Cambodia and Thailand [on Monday] will help relieve tension and improve the situation," Anupong Paojinda said by phone.

"Reducing the troops at the border, however, needs an order from the govฌernment first."

But Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej sought to reassure the public, telling reporters: "The Foreign Ministry is talking to the milฌitary. Everything is fine."

"Both sides are convinced that the bilateral mechanism is still there for us to utilise," said Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat.

Prior to the Siem Reap meeting, Cambodia had appealed to both Asean and the United Nations Security Council to intervene in the border row. More than 1,500 troops from the two countries have been disฌpatched to the area.

"We carry pens and pencils," said Tharit. "We cannot speak for those who carry guns and weapons."

But Tharit claimed the Foreign Ministry had received assurances from the Thai military, which has a tendency to act independently of the government in Thailand, that they would avoid a confrontation at all costs.

"They confirmed that they said the first gunshot will not be from the Thai side, and if there is a first gunshot they will not immediately respond but investigate the source first," said the Thai foreign ministry spokesman, who attended the Siem Reap meeting.

Did everyone make it to their weekend in one piece?  I certainly hope you did and that you're doing whatever you can do enjoy your weekend to the fullest.  I'm sitting here on a Saturday night, and I can hear the wind occasionally whistling and blowing through the big mango tree outside as I sit here and write to you.  I'm also occasionally looking up from the laptop to glance at the muted television in front of me.  Does anyone else out there leave the television on muted when they are home alone?  I sometimes do it for the illusion of  company it provides,and I've got it muted at the moment so I can concentrate better on talking to you.  I'm actually also waiting for my favorite Saturday night shows to come on, and the current bland reality show annoys me severely.  Anyways, enough about my peculiar personality traits, right?

Well, I've officially been on vacation for a week now, and my mind seems to have taken complete and full advantage of the opportunity.  It sort of feels like my body has been in auto-drive this past week going through the motions of daily obligations without much thought or feeling in my actions.  Anyway, I went to the dentist on Wednesday, and I'm proud to report that Tom is 100% cavity free. I actually have an almost phobic fear of dentists and the relief of having no cavities was tremendous.  The dentist and his 2 assistants did an excellent job of polishing and cleaning my teeth all for about 600 Baht, which is just under 20 bucks.   I doubt if the  dentist at home would even squirt you with  the  water tube for that much, right?

Then, speaking of back home, I made a trip down to the American Embassy on Friday.  I only had about 2 empty pages left in my passport, and so a trip down to the embassy to get some additional pages was in order.  I'm normally not a big fan of government interaction and their need for miles of red tape, but I must say that in this instance the U.S. government was quick and efficient.  I was able to print out and fill in the form online beforehand, and then on Friday I was in and out in under an hour.  Not only were the staff down there friendly and efficient, but the whole service was done free of charge.  They should pay me to do P.R. for them for this entry, huh?

However, one thing I always find interesting is the large number of Thai citizens that are always there lining up and making visa applications when I've visited the embassy.  They line up by the hundreds like you would see people lined up to enter a ride at Six Flags or Disney World.  All morning long for what I assume to be every day there are huge lines down at the American Embassy for a chance at the opportunity to cross the pacific to the country I call home for one reason or another.  This raised some difficult questions in my own mind, but I guess that's the bad thing about long vacations or holidays in life.  You get to much time to think and critique the measure of your life when you are avoiding doing productive things with your time.  Well, I should go now and watch Family guy, so much love to you from Bangkok.  Thanks so very much for stopping by to have a read as always, and I will see ya soon.

Faz um tempo, mas eu fui convidado ao lado do Anderson (O Vestiário) para participar de um programa da Fashion TV, um famoso canal que trata apenas de moda e que depois de fazer sucesso no exterior chegou no Brasil através da SKY em Agosto do ano passado. A entrevista, feita aqui em São Paulo, foi para o programa Estilo Brasil, novo no canal e que vai estrear dia 23 de Julho. Além de nós colecionadores tivemos também a apresentadora do programa Ellen Jabour e a estilista Thais Losso. Atualmente com marca própria ela já passou por Sommer, de onde pediu para sair. Mas antes seu "passe" ou no caso "traço" esteve vinculado a Zapping aonde fez uma coleção com o tema Itália que envolvia entre outros elementos as camisas de futebol, isso em 2005.

Inicialmente a idéia era gravar no Pacaembu, mas por um problema tivemos que mudar nossos rumos, gravamos então no Parque Antártica. Chegamos no local e entramos em campo, literalmente. A equipe do programa deu uma pequena orientação de como entraríamos e o resto, por incrível que possa parecer, foi muito natural. Ficamos em campo e as primeiras coisas que mostramos após uma pequena introdução da simpática Ellen com a simpática Thais foram nossas pequenas evoluções. O Anderson mostrou a Alemanha de 1996 a 2008, um conjunto de 6 camisas belíssimas. Eu mostrei metade da minha coleção dos campeões mundiais, metade pois na seleção que fiz para levar deixei de fora as camisas de visitante. Nesse primeiro momento nada animou muito a Thais ou a Ellen com a exceção de uma gola (a da Alemanha de 2004), que eu particularmente acho de muito mau gosto, e o desenho criado por Neil Barrett para a camisa Home da Itália.

Após isso mostramos algumas peças de nossas coleções, meio perdido ainda mostrei a camisa da Costa do Marfim Home de 2006 relacionando ela com a camisa de 94 do Brasil que já estava exposta mostrando a retomada de idéias que o mundo das camisas está começando a viver. Mostrei também minha camisa do Pumas, que não agradou pelo tom pele que possui, fiquei um pouco triste, afinal a coitada da camisa que eu vejo como uma relíquia, não das mais belas verdade, havia sido esculachada, isso que eu também tinha levado a sensacional camisa do Chivas e acabei nem mostrando. Seguimos conversa e por meio das camisas comemorativas do centenário da Fifa que o Anderson tinha caímos no passado, e conseqüentemente na evolução de design e tecidos, ambos constatamos que a evolução de tecidos dos anos 80 para os 90 principalmente havia sido algo incontestável e arrasador, foi então que mostrei minha réplica do Hearts que eu trouxe da Escócia e comparei com a atual, o que mais chamou a atenção das meninas foi a diferença de tonalidade.

Demos uma rápida passagem então pela mudança e evolução dos escudos e fomos sem escala para qual a Liga que fazia mais moda, momentos antes a Ellen tinha pedido para ver as camisas de manga longa e eu fui buscar as minhas e acabei perdendo a chance de falar algo no qual tenho uma opinião muito própria. O Anderson falou que a liga italiana junto com a inglesa e a espanhola eram as mais desenvolivdas nesses aspectos, mas eu sinceramente gostaria de citar a Bundesliga com coleções tão únicas, a J.League e quem sabe fazer um comentário sobre a FMF e falar que no final que fazia moda mesmo não eram as ligas e sim as marcas, afinal os modelos que são as características de estilo e moda são feito pelas mesmas, verdade que as ligas que o Anderson citou são as mais conhecidas e quem sabe a que os clubes tem mais autonomia para criar, mas não citar que a Umbro foi a precursora do design esportivo quando começou a patrocinar clubes do Reino Unido na década de 70 é um pecado.

Perguntaram também sobre qual o jogador que achávamos mais modernos na questão de design, Anderson citou o goleiro Buffon e seu xale (?), eu meio perdido fiz a burrada de citar um dos jogadores que menos me agradam, o Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo, falando de seu estilo de jogo todo peculiar, mas após alguns segundos procurando urgentemente alguém melhor lembrei do meu ídolo Davids e seus óculos laranja e dreads inconfundíveis, fiquei orgulhoso, existe melhor exemplo de estilo do que Davids? Entramos então nas mangas longas, dei uma rápida passagem por algumas camisas, citando o inconfundível e clássico desenho do Ajax, que foi deixado de lado quando surgiu minha camisa de goleiro do Liverpool. Sucesso, o estilo totalmente diferente misturando cores e desenhos fez as meninas se apaixonarem, a Ellen até arriscou vestir a camisa para ver como caia nela.

Depois dar uma espécie de encerrada com a Thais falamos um pouco da história curiosas de algumas camisas, o Anderson falou do Universitário que tinha mudado de branco para bege após uma lavagem não muito bem sucedida e eu citei a história do uniforme rosa da Juventus que pelas mãos de um inglês virou branco e preto. Foi então que fomos intimados a escolher uma última camisa para falar, aquela que considerávamos especial, não tive dúvida alguma, peguei a minha camisa do Al-Ain. A reação de todos não poderia ser diferente, e foi a mesma que eu tive (e ainda tenho) quando a vi pela primeira vez. É meio inexplicável, mas é uma mistura de espanto e admiração. Todos admiraram e fizeram comentários sobre a peça, inclusive eu, meio abobado. A Thais ameaçou roubar e a Ellen  falou que eu devia fazer sucesso com ela na balada, falei que não usava ela de jeito nenhum e nesse exato momento passei uma idéia de colecionador que na verdade não é exatamente a minha verdadeira, ou é, mas somente nesse caso. Fechamos a matéria e fizemos umas poses de como estivéssemos conversando, não que não estivéssemos, pediram novamente para eu segurar a camisa do meu querido Al-Ain e eu fiz todo orgulhoso da minha bela peça.

Algumas observações: Não está na ordem corretíssima, e sim mais ou menos do que eu lembro, também discutimos se era camisa ou camiseta, e a Ellen argumentou falando que camisa é a de botão, e de certa forma ela está correta, minha tese é que camisa é bem mais simples de se falar, mas que está errado a isso está. Também teve os exemplares que eu acabei não citando que eu gostaria de ter citado, como as listras em tons parecidos com o exemplo de Bayer Leverkusen e Reading, as camisas meio a meio do Atlético de Madrid, a quadriculada que também serve de exemplo de tons parecidos, do Racing, e o desenho espetacular da camisa do Chivas. Também fomos perguntados se venderíamos nossas coleções, falamos, claro, que cada peça tem seu valor sentimental e tudo, mas eu confessei que por uma boa oferta venderia, o Anderson foi resistente, mas quando a Ellen ofereceu um milhão ele acabou cedendo. 

Só para constar eu fui com a camisa Away do Celtic de manga longa da temporada passada (0708) e o Anderson com a camisa de Rugby da Inglaterra. Também acabei nem citando minha querida cria (o Compulsivos) não sei se por timidez ou porque simplesmente não se encaixava no contexto. O programa vai passar na SKY no final do mês, não sei ao certo a data, mas se o programa for semanal deve ser ou no dia 23 ou no dia 30, acho que mais provável dia 30.

Enfim, essa foi minha experiência, muito boa por sinal, que ocorreu na última terça-feira de Junho, dia 24. Espero que venham muitas outras iguais a essa, e que da próxima vez eu saiba com a experiência que ganhei aproveitar melhor o espaço.

Nodig: 2 el zonnebloemolie, 500ml kokosmelk, anderhalve tl groene currypasta, 1/2 tl gepureerde gember, verse fijngehakte koriander, geraspte limoenschil van 1/2 limoen, sap van 1/2 limoen, zeevruchtenmix en gekookte jasmijnrijst.

Verhit de olie en roerbak er de currypasta in. Eens de geuren vrijkomen, giet er de gember, limoensap en schil en kokosmelk bij. Breng tegen het kookpunt aan. Voeg de zeevruchten toe en hou tegen de kook aan. Doe er tenslotte de rijst bij en werk af met koriander.

Podriamos echarle la culpa a mas de un politico y quejarnos todo el dia, pero asi no se logra nada...

Pero, a no desesperarse, en estos momentos pueden acceder a un test server nuestro llamado Alguera World War, el cual corre en una de nuestras maquinas y se encuentra online la mayoria del tiempo.

Lo ideal, a esta altura, es volver a armar el dedicado y tirar un servicio de dns dinamico de manera momentanea.

El problema es que, como todos saben, el codigo base es del otserv 0.5x (svn, muy viejo - y nunca hicimos sync por que el 30% del codigo lo cambiamos, nunca sacamos branch ni nada, por que justamente no nos conviene tener 50 servers algueros dando vueltas por ahi). A todo esto, actualizar el codigo lleva tiempo, tiempo que no poseo. En algunos meses, con algo de ganas y esfuerzo, Alguera volvera, siendo 8.1x real.

Asi que, mientras tanto pueden divertirse en el war server. (Hay bugs, pero no pienso solucionarlos salvo que sean de mapa - estamos actualizando thais en estos momentos).

PD: Nunca borramos nada, absolutamente todas las cuentas siguen en pie en el servidor original, la base de datos esta intacta, no se preocupen ;)

Thais (talvez nem precisasse falar que era dela), pedindo pra não esquecer as 'coisas' dela! E aqui ela confirma o pedido.

Se você respondeu que a diferença é que a pessoa que aqui posta é diferente, você errou! Quer dizer, em termos.
Mas porque todo esse "em termos" e eu não explico logo?
Oxi, gente apressadinha, hein?!
Okay, okay.
Eis a explicação...

Como vocês já sabem, me chamo Thaís (não brinca!!). Mas o que muitos podem não saber é que eu tenho um codinome (ou apelido ou nick ou nome-de-guerra, chamem do que quiser) e que muitas pessoas me conhecem mais por ele do que como Thaís. E ele é Evanescence Girl, o nome que assina este post.
Não que eu seja muito conhecida (com certeza não), mas eu sempre assinei dessa forma e é meu nick em tudo que me cadastro (basta dar uma olhada nos meus links). Lógico que existem raras exceções e você está numa delas (não captou? Eu digo: o nome do blog!).
Então resolvi assinar com meu nick ao invés do meu nome original de fábrica? Não, continuo com o "Thaís", apenas adicionei esse novo "administrador" por conta de outro blog que tenho. Foi uma medida pra facilitar a minha vida, já que fico logada nesse outro blog a maior parte do tempo.

Já aproveito pra fazer um jabá básico sobre esse outro novo blog:
Criei um blog sobre a série Everybody Hates Chris (também conhecida como 'Todo Mundo Odeia o Chris'), onde posto notícias e donwloads de quase tudo (em breve, porque tá no começo) relacionado a série.
Ele é um dos motivos da minha ausência daqui (e de outros lugares), mas não pelo blog em si, mas porque um amigo e eu assumimos a legenda da série.
Pois é, toda semana nós fazemos a legenda em português. Não que eu seja excelente em inglês, muito pelo contrário, mas como não havia ninguém fazendo resolvi ajudar (eu e esse meu problema de não saber dizer não!).
No início era relativamente mole: tinha legenda em inglês, tenho até que um bom conhecimento da língua inglesa (escrita, pra falar a verdade) e adoro a série. O que poderia dar errado? Como NADA nesse mundo é perfeito e temos a famosa Lei de Murphy* pra fu... ferrar a nossa vida, essa pergunta me seria respondida nas semanas seguintes quando, sei lá por qual razão, as legendas em inglês pararam de ser feitas. Aí fu... ferrou, neh?
É, mas sou brasileira e não desisto quase nunca.
Comecei a traduzir do áudio. E até tive uma maravilhosa surpresa pois conseguia entender mais de 50% das falas. Fora que contei com a ajuda de diversas pessoas super legais (vale ressaltar nesse ponto do meu post que como toda regra há sua exceção, aqui não deixa de ser diferente. :) ) e estamos levando.
Ops, me empolguei tanto sobre a legenda que esqueci de dar o endereço do blog pra vocês darem uma passadinha e me prestigiarem:

Voltando ao assunto principal deste post (isso que prometi posts pequenos ¬¬')...
Então, se vocês verem posts assinados como Evanescence Girl, não se assustem, sou eu (como se, a essa altura do post, alguém não tenha compreendido isso ¬¬')!

E se alguém tiver curiosidade pra saber o porquê desse codinome (ou apelido ou nick ou nome-de-guerra, chamem do que quiser), isso já é história para um outro post. Isso é, se já não contei isso aqui (se você - depois de frequentar durante todo esse tempo - ainda não percebeu, eu tenho um sério problema de memória, então a probabilidade de eu ter contado aqui e não lembrar é muito grande, okay?).

It's Songkran in Thailand this week!

We took the family down to the moat around the old city in Chiang Mai to see the festival today. It's got to be the world's largest water fight! People roam the streets around the moat in their songtaews, pickup trucks and tuk-tuks, with giant barrels of water loaded in the back. Inside the barrels are not only water but also giant blocks of ice or frequently small children, who scoop buckets full of water and hand them to their older accomplices. Any unprotected passer-by is fair game, and we learned that you can even receive a bucketful through an open car window if you're not careful.

Even on the side streets, locals and shop owners are waiting with water guns, hoses and buckets outside the many shops that line either side of the road. There really isn't a safe distance at which to pass. They are happy to chase after you to give you a good dousing. One man picked up my daughter and carried her to a bucket where three people set about washing her hair - complete with shampoo! Everyone expects to get wet, and nothing is sacred - not even expensive digital cameras that we were foolish enough to remove from their ziplocked protection pouches.

It's incredible fun - the "best holiday ever!" according to my youngest - but what I really enjoyed
was the ice-breaking interaction between Thais and farangs. It didn't matter that we spoke different languages. It didn't matter that we look different or come from different cultures. Water, ironically, built the bridge between us. It created a whole new language that we could share, because everyone understands the squeal of surprise that occurs when ice water makes contact.

Something special happened today - a blending of cultures, a setting-aside of differences. We found common ground in a water fight and love for our neighbor in a shared smile and a laugh. Could it really be that simple? Could cultures come together just by focusing on similarities rather than differences? May God bless this shared experience and open windows of opportunity for a little Living Water.
