Sad ending to the game. Similar to the Oregon - Cal game last year...except - this one lost to the universally hated dancing moron. Though a Duck myself - I understand the pain.

Hope everybody got a chance to watch the game last night. It was weird to watch a Pac-10 opener to start the season, on a Thursday night.

About the game, it was pretty damn evident that it was the first game of the season. Both teams were sloppy and unimpressive. We think it's very important that we remember that it was the opening game for both teams. You can't expect them to play like that the rest of the season. We think you'll see significant improvement from both teams, especially Oregon State.

How werid was it that the two of the most prominent plays involved balls rolling out of the side of the endzone? The safety to put Stanford ahead for good, 22-20, and the fumble from Oregon State WR Darrell Catchings to seal the victory for the Cardinal. Catchings had no business trying to turn that into a TD. He had the first down and should have just got out of bounds. The Beavers still had a timeout remaining, would have been at the 3 yard line, and had Stanford on their heels.

We didn't have time yesterday to post our pick for the game last night, but if you trust us, we won $1 from a buddy by taking Stanford +3.

We'll post the rest of our picks sometime today.

College Football 2008 Season officially kicked off today! From the 14 games that were played today, the OSU @ Stanford was by far the most exciting game to watch. Stanford upset Oregon State in a close game, with a final score of 36-28 (this was the closest margin of victory today; the next largest was a margin of 14). This game was also one of the most longest ones, lasting about 3:40.

While it was an exciting game, I did get a little tired and a little bored. After all, it was OSU & Stanford playing. The game was consistently close, with the exception of 4th quarter when Stanford pulled away 36-20 with 9:36 to go. However, Oregon State rallied back, scored a TD and converted a 2-pointer with 3 minutes to go. Oregon State stopped Stanford's drive and got the ball at Stanford's 47 yard line with about 1:40 to go. The offense was able to move the ball consistently - but on the OSU's last play - Darrell Catchings, a wide reciever - caught the ball for 15 yards - and as he stretched out his hand with the ball on Stanford's 1 yard line - he fumbled it as he went out of bounds! The ball rolled into the end zone and then out of bounds. It was declared a touchback and Stanford won the game.

Here are some of the insights into the game:

-Refs: I can't say that referees did a good job because they completely missed a call in the 2nd quarter. Stanford's wide reciever clearly caught the ball (and even if he didn't - there was pass interference). The refs reviewed the play and declared the 35-yard pass incomplete, completely killing Stanford's momentum. Kudos to Stanford for persevering through the ref's blunder and winning the game.

-OSU: The team could've won the game - as they remained consistently close as far as score goes. But, they were simply ran over by Cardinals' tailbacks Toby Gehart and Anthony Kimble. Stanford only passed 17 times, but rushed 48! With that kind of pressure, the game slipped away from them, especially in 4th quarter. And, while the offense did a pretty good job passing, it didn't establish the rush like Oregon did. OSU's QB Lyle Moevao had a respectable game, going 33-for-53, 388 yds, 3 TDs, and 2 interceptions. The team collectively rushed for 72 yards. The two of OSU's wide receivers had stellar performances: Sammie Stroughter (12 catches for 157 yds) and Shane Morales (13 catches for 150 yards).

-Stanford: Stanford played extremely well. Obviously, the defense allowed a lot of yards, but it held up at the right moments to win the game. QB Tavita Pritchard had a good game, going 10-for-17, 91 yards, and 1 TD. Most of the damage, however, was done by the runningbacks - with Toby Gerhart (19 carries for 147 yards) and Anthony Kimble (18 carries for 49 yards). Stanford also played an extremely clean game, with having 0 picks and 0 fumbles.

Overall - I think it's a great start for Pac-10. Obviously, Stanford is a little stronger than last year - and maybe will win a few more games than we expected. Don't discount OSU - they trailed closely by and their quarterback has quite an arm. Stay tuned for Saturday when Washington goes to Oregon. I will be making a trip down there with two of my friends (one of whom is a pilot and will be flying us down there). On Sunday, I will post a very thorough blog with a lot of pictures! Good night.

Football Fiends!

The LONG -- 40 weeks! We should have built an Ark to get us through the long, dry, desert known as the weeks without college football--wait is over!

COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON STARTS TODAY. (Go ahead, I'll give you time to digest that info.)

It's going to be an all college football weekend this Labor Day and I can't wait.

Without further ado, here are my Week 1 picks:

Thursday Games:

Wake Forest over Baylor 41-13

South Carolina over NC State 34-0

Oregon State over Stanford (I had a feeling about this game and almost went with Stanford, first "trust my instinct" lesson of the 2008 season) 38-26

Saturday Games:

Utah over Michigan ( I just can't shake the feeling that RichRod's Wolverines are still in a bit of chaos)

USC over Virginia (Prediction for final score: 31-14)

Florida over Hawaii (The spread here is Hawaii +34--not quite the Colt Brennan/June Jones days anymore, is it?)

Mizzou over Illinois

ASU over Northern AZ

Oregon over Washington

Boise State over Idaho State

Nebraska over Western Michigan

Ole Miss over Memphis

California over Michigan State (Kevin Riley's getting the start for Cal, not Nate Longshore, this should be interesting.)

Monday Games:

Tennessee over UCLA

Rutgers over Fresno State

I'll be checking in throughout the weekend to update the wins and losses and comment. ENJOY the first weekend of the College Football Season! Only 11 more! (So sad, isn't it? Shortest season in sports.)

* El 95% de los alumnos viven en la Universidad

* 78 es el número de residencias de estudiantes que existen.

* 640 Grupos de estudiantes.

* 35 es el número de deportes que se pueden practicar en el campus.

* 42 Atletas de Stanford participaron en los juegos olímpicos de 2004.

* 1/3 de los estudiantes son extranjeros.

* 12.000 es el número de bicicletas estimadas que hay en el campus.

* 1.800 profesores.

* Un año en la universidad cuesta la friolera de 50.000$.

Bueno ahora una vez cumplido mi sueño, os dejo con un vídeo que rodé hoy....
