Ireland must hold a second referendum on the Lisbon treaty, Nicolas Sarkozy told colleagues on July

Ireland must hold a second referendum on the Lisbon treaty, Nicolas Sarkozy told colleagues on July 16th, 2008 in the clearest sign of a European Union plan to try to save the document ratified by 21 other countries.

A second vote would have to take place in an attempt to reverse Ireland's rejection of the treaty in June by a margin of 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent, the French President told MPs from his party at a private meeting.

Mr Sarkozy, who is acting as President of the EU while France holds its presidency for six months, has denied in public that there is a secret plan to force a second vote and has said that the solution must be proposed by the Irish Government at the next EU summit in October. “The Irish will have to vote again,” he Details emerged in Paris of a plan to stage a rerun of the vote backed by guarantees that Ireland will keep its EU commissioner as well as its military neutrality, its veto over tax policy and its right to set its abortion laws.

Pressure on Ireland has been increased by the continuing pace of ratification by other parliaments. Britain passed the document the weekafter the Irish “no” vote, followed by Cyprus, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The treaty, which was intended to streamline decision-making in an enlarged EU, cannot be implemented until it is ratified by all member states. It has yet to be passed by the parliaments of the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Sweden, and is awaiting formal presidential signature in Germany and Poland.

Senior EU politicians have called for a second vote in the spring because they want to conduct next June's European Parliament elections under the more streamlined rules.

An official in Paris confirmed that Mr Sarkozy made the remark, while the French President's office declined to comment. Mr Sarkozy's office said that he would not present a plan to the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen. “The President is coming to listen to the Irish, to listen to what Brian Cowen tells him. He is not coming to make proposals,” one adviser to Mr Sarkozy said.

"I want to be the president of the purchasing power increase. It is a central question for the FRANCE." was always speaking SARKOZY before the elections.

As soon as he had been elected, SARKOZY reduced taxes and offered gifts to his rich friends (those who invited him on their yacht and planes). And he quickly changed his speech, speaking to the working class with those words :

"About the purchasing power, what are you waiting from me, to empty the yet empty State cash box?"

SARKOZY is an inside out ROBIN WOOD: stealing money in the poor people's pockets, for give to the rich people, the money they don't need at all.

Probably the best record ever made by a first lady, better yet probably the only record ever made by a first lady.

FRANCE'S first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy shot to the top of the charts with her latest album in its first full week on sale.

The album has generated massive interest because it is the first by the Italian-born former model turned pop star since her whirlwind romance with President Nicolas Sarkozy, whom she married in February less than three months after they met.

The new record, entitled Comme si de rien n'etait (As if nothing had happened) and released under the first lady's maiden name Carla Bruni, hit the shelves on July 11 in a blaze of publicity.

The SNEP, an industry group that tracks record sales, said that in the week starting July 13 the album knocked Viva la Vida, the latest offering from British band Coldplay, off the top spot in the charts.

Bruni-Sarkozy has said she wrote the lyrics of the new songs partly before she met Sarkozy and partly since they fell in love. This has prompted intense scrutiny of the lyrics by French media obsessed with the presidential love life.

"You are my drug, more lethal than heroin from Afghanistan and more dangerous than Colombian cocaine," she sings in one of the songs that caused a minor diplomatic incident between France and Colombia.

In another song, she seems to dismiss criticism from some of her left-wing friends who were bewildered by her romance with the right-leaning Sarkozy.

"It's not correct, but it's good nonetheless. Let them curse me and I don't give a damn. I couldn't care less, I take all the blame, you need to know, you need to understand, you are my lord, you are my love, you are my orgy," she sings.

So in the fourth week of July, summer has finally decided to show its face and very welcome it is to

So in the fourth week of July, summer has finally decided to show its face and very welcome it is too. But not for Capone. When God invented dog he forgot the sweat glands and made do with a long, long tongue and a predeliction to pant - sometimes very noisily.

In fact, Capone is far from the worst or loudest in this department although it does seem to be something that particularly afflicts Staffs and similar breeds. I sat in the vets the other day and this poor animal sounded like it was being slowly strangled, gagging and panting as if on the point of death.

You have to be so careful when you leave them in the car in this weather. Tescos provides very little shaded parking and even with two front windows left wide open, I have to be in and out in a flash. The only alternative is to tie him to the hitching post outside (you know, where the cowboys tie up their horses) but Capone, being the superstar that he is, attracts so much attention, so many "oohs" and "aahs" that it can take twenty minutes to break out of the conversations and escape.

Other than the arrival of summer, there is some truly momentous news to impart. Capone has a friend, a companion, a permanent partner. She arrived just a few weeks ago and has the same provenance as him, rescued by special forces extraction from the hellhole known as West London. Only nine months old, she too had spent her life locked in some grotty flat for twenty-three and a half hours a day, released only for a short walk to the fag shop and back.

Allow me to introduce you to Carla. Yes, if President Sarkozy can have one so can I and she struts and preens and prances as any good supermodel should.

On arrival Capone thought I'd finally found him the teenage sex slave that we've both been hoping for but being a gentleman he soon relented and has given her a warm and loving welcome. It has to be said that this is not always entirely deserved for she can be a right little bitch at times - and I am moderating my language as much as possible within the bounds of accuracy.

After a few weeks proper exercise with a little discipline and training she has developed into a delightful member of the family. All credit has to go to Capone for his wonderful temperament, forbearance and patience. Even when they are both exhausted from a lengthy walk, the exuberance of youth still causes her to clamp his leg in her jaws, chew on his cheek or plant her nether regions in his face in the hope of a little playtime. They playfight and tumble, chase each other and fight endlessly over sticks but they are now firm friends.

At first, when the obligatory rich tea biscuits were handed out, Carla would snatch, grab and my fingers would be in great danger. Now she accepts these sweetmeats with all the delicacy and elegance of Madame Sarkozy taking a spoonful of foie gras.

Capone has taught Carla to swim. At first she would try to jump on his back, then after a few frantic paddles she would panic and return to shore. To Capone's consternation she has now become a faster swimmer than him and she delights in letting him set off then plunging in and overtaking him to retrieve the stick first.

There is a remedy for this which has to be applied regularly. It involves a trip to the end of Hayling Island, out of the calm waters of Chichester harbour, to where the surf thunders in and for my best boy and girl, the waves are twice or three times their height.

Here Capone's great bravery and strength triumphs. He will go out through anything, rising and falling in the swell, capturing the stick and returning to the shore through the white water and massive undertow where a frantic, near hysterical Carla promptly steals it from him while he recovers.

Just like a woman - but she is our little girl.

The blog Coulisses de Bruxelles, EU now expects in the wake of a recent adjustment in the French Constitution that Turkey will not be able to avoid a referendum in that country over its adhesion to the European Union.

The newly adopted article 88-5 states that unless a 3/5 majority is reached in favor of a new country joining the EU, then the issue is required to be decided by referendum of the people.

It could have been worse. France's ruling party, Union pour le Mouvement Populaire has been stolidly against the adhesion of Turkey to the European Union and tried to push through a provision with 88-5 that would require a referendum for any country that would represent more than 5 percent of the EU's population (therefore, Turkey and Ukraine).

This is significant because in addition to French lawmakers being generally against Turkey as a member of the EU, the people are not sold on the idea either. According to polls, the French are one of the countries the most strongly against the Turkish addition. Furthermore, the sentiment that the E.U. Constitution might make it easier for Turkey to join was one of the principal reasons the French voted down the Constitution by referendum in May 2005.

I just had dinner with a friend of mine who I see a few times a year. The poor bastard spends all year in Paris (boo hoo), where he teaches and is working on an advanced degree. I'm concealing most of the details to protect what little innocence he has. Well, between seeing R and having just gotten back from the road, I'm thinking about trips past, particularly what I saw. I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination, a photographer, but at least you can see the world through my untrained eye.

The last time I was in Paris, I had the good fortune of witnessing the presidential election that thrust Sarkozy into office (a good decision on the part of the French people). I got to go to an election night party (which was awesome) and generally feel the vibe of a world capital on election day. It was beyond exhilirating.

Oh, the poster above translates (as well I as I can) to: "We won't survive this ... and you won't any more."

I always have adventures in Paris. Every time I step onto the streets, which is where I feel very much at home, something cool happens. I'll see something interesting, have a wild experience or just get some great fucking writing done. i wrote my article for Boink magazine, which seems like it was published so long ago (before I hooked up with XBIZ, let alone AVN). I remember the cafe vividly; it was right around the corner from the Intercontinental Hotel in Place de l'Opera, where I was staying (on my first trip).

Here are some shots of the campaign signs from the hotly contested Sarkozy/Segoline (I hope I spelled that correctly) bout. It was insane! The first one? "Together, anything is possible." (again, to the best of my limited abilities)

The way they scratch the eyes out just shows a level of brutality-- and commitment-- that we just don't see here. Some see it as degrading. I call it true democracy in action.

Written over Sarko's face in the campaign posters to the right is "ETAT NAZI." That's a pretty powerful statement. These signs, if I remember correctly, were up in Montmartre. I spent a good week in that part of town and absolutely love it. In a way, it felt like my neighborhood, the Upper West Side. So, the next time I go to Paris, I'll probably stay in Montmartre again, though not at the same hotel.

Okay, enough of the politics. It's not really my thing anyway. I want to move to the crazy Parisians I ran into. That's where I had the most fun. For me, Paris is all about the people. I think I'm the only American who loves Parisians, but that's fine with me. I think they are nice, open, polite folks, and I have always felt welcome in their hometown. I've spent about three weeks in Paris over the past few years, and I can't wait to get back. I'm still exploring other places, but the pull of Paris remains quite strong. For now, it'll have to wait, but I do plan to go back soon.

This chick's deal was pretty straightforward. Her favorite storyteller believed in sharing his intimacy. So, she decided to move her bed into Place des Abesses in Montmartre (where I was staying) to share in the dead guy's experience. It attracted weirdos. What a shock ...

Of course, she wasn't the only nutjob. I now introduce you to "the fiancee." A nursing student who is struggling to pay for her honeymoon, she was led around the Quartier Latin by her friends. Those willing to help fund the experience dropped cash into the coffin around her neck.

I guess she wanted to go on a honeymoon pretty damned badly, because this is further than I'd go, and I really don't have a whole lot of shame. I wore a dress to a movie theater once, though.

This is part of the reason why I dig Paris. The people are nuts, but in the happy way. You can walk the streets and always see something.

I thought this girl's project was pure genius. It is equal parts clever, pathetic and entertaining. How can you not donate? I threw her a couple of Euros, adn I got to take a few pictures in trade. So, I think it worked out pretty well.

This wasn't the only picture for which I paid. I liked keeping track of the various beggars around the city, as they seemed particularly organized. On one occasion, I saw about 30 of them gathered outside Gare du Nord (one of the big train stations). It was like they were gathering before their shift.

Hey, even the beggars are unionized!

There was a pretty big concentration of them at the Eiffel Tower, which is the only reason why I found the tower interesting.

The pitch is pretty typical. A girl comes up to you and asks, "Do you speak English?" Regardless of how you reply, she holds a card open. It contains a sob story about being a refugee from Bosnia, the burden of several children, the absence of a husband, etc. Well, I'm not above paying for what I want. For the rich price of EUR2, I was able to get a shot of the card that she uses to pitch. But, when the camera was turned on her face, she became quite upset and tried to hide.

Sarkozy-Tapie-Bercy-Amis.

Even before its inception the entity now known as the United States of America has shared much in common with the French nation. The idea of revolution, an uneasy relationship with the British, and perhaps belief in man inaliable rights. Today, the French Republic has established yet another concrete connection to the American mindset, intolerance. Today, according to The Guardian (UK) has denied citizenship to a morrocan woman because she wears a burqa. Evidently, immigration feels that the burqa and what it represents are completely at odds with the french concept of fraternite' liberte' egalite'. The established argument is that the the traditional head covering is representative of female subservience to men, and therefore is in direct conflict with what it means to be French. One could argue about the state of ethnic, and gender egalite' in France, especially after the election that brought President Sarkozy to power.

Whatever your feeling on that election, and the issue of gender and security that took place in the minds of the french polity, one cannot argue the rammifications of this action in an increasingly xenophobic nation. I personaly have no personal experiences with the burqa or the lifestyle it entails, but this condemnation of culture as not worthy for French citizenship is a staggering step in modern immigration doctrine. It is interesting that we here in the United States are going through some of the same growing pains with concerns over employment, immigration, as well as struggling to maintain a "American" identity in the face of large scale immigration. France, like the United States, has established its culturally unilateralist credentials.

I was also talking about Nicolas Sarkozy's visit in English, a few studios away. Did Sarkozy convince the Irish that they were fools, that they should come into the fold? I'm not sure. Did Sarkozy hold Brian Cowen's head down a toilet and tell him to get his act together? This is entirely possible. Watch it here

French President Nicholas Sarkozy has proposed to the Irish prime minister that a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty be held on the same day as elections to the European Parliament next June.

Mr Sarkozy made the suggestion during a private discussion with Prime Minister, or Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, according to reports in the Irish Times, during a six-hour whistle-stop trip to Dublin to meet with government leaders and campaigners from both sides of the treaty battle.

At the same time, publicly, the French president denied that he had said Ireland must vote again.

"I never said that Ireland had to organise a new referendum. I said that at some stage or another the Irish had to be given the opportunity to give their opinion."

Lying much Sarkozy you little sh*t? Just typical of the attitude of these Corrupto-crats. As far as they are concerned, you either vote as they tell you, or you vote as they tell you. A quote from Henry Ford is appropriate;

"Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black."

Last week, he told a private session with deputies from his UMP party in Paris that Ireland would have to hold a second referendum, according to an attendee of the meeting.

However, in Dublin the president said he accepted that there could be no resolution to the issue under his country's six-month presidency of the European Union, due to end in December.

"We don't want to push you into anything," said Mr Sarkozy at a joint press conference with Mr Cowen.

The No campaigners, for their part, felt that the French president was not listening to their concerns.

"The most worrying thing about this meeting is the fact that clearly the message is not properly being heard, perhaps not even being heard at all. We have said no,'' said Declan Ganley the millionaire backer of Libertas, whose arguments against the treaty focussed on taxation and regulation as well as democracy issues.

"That this process should continue, this wish to force through this agenda. There is just something fundamentally wrong and broken with that," he added.

Not if you view the EU as a dictatorship there isn't.

Do not forget, the Lisbon Treaty contains a self amendment clause (known as Article 48) which would empower the unelected EU rulers to change the consolidated Treaty without having to present it to the people of Europe as a referendum. Then of course there is the small issue of Declaration 17.

Why of Earth would any Government that actually serves the interest of its people, believe the country would be governed better by a bunch of faceless socialists in Brussels? What can the EU do for your country that you own government could not do for you?

Nothing. That's what. Absolutely nothing. All it does do is give a smaller number of people an increasing amount of power over a larger number of people. The totalitarian dictatorship of the EU is already apparent in documents NOW, imagine how bad it could get down the line? Read this Euro-creep bulletin to see what the EU wants from Britain.

We are running out of time.

Did anyone even notice Gordon Brown’s visit to Israel? Grandmasta feels bad for the guy.

Did anyone even notice Gordon Brown's visit to Israel? Grandmasta feels bad for the guy. After waiting for all those years behind Tony Blair, this was supposed to be his time to shine. Instead, Britain is a complete non-player on the Middle Eastern scene.

It all goes back to Tony Blair's botched relationship with the US. Blair's strategy did have some logic: Maintain influence in the region by way of an extremely close relationship with Washington, the main player. This was logical as long as Blair was willing to demand concessions from Bush when it mattered. But he was unable or unwilling to do this and the British basically became American groupies. Do rock stars usually have respect for what their groupies think?

On the other hand, France played its cards quite well. Chirac's vocal opposition of the Iraq war maintained French street cred in the region. And by refusing to subvert itself to Washington and "playing hard to get," the French government earned respect and credibility from the Americans and other Middle Eastern governments.

The result? Sarkozy has the heads of state from 40 Middle Eastern countries visiting him in Paris. Brown goes to the region and noone blinks an eye.
