Ay veces cuando no sabemos cuando callarnos, muchas veces me pasa a mí, aquí en este blog, en la escuela, con los amigos, en una cita, carajo, gran parte de los problemas de comunicación no son por falta de la misma, sino por exceso, quiero decir que entre menos hable una persona existe un menor porcentaje de tonterias que dice.Más de una vez a pasado que por no quedarnos en silencio hablamos hasta de las cosas más tontas, en realidad estar en silencio con una persona es una práctica que es cada día menos común, hay personas que incluso catalogan el silencio como incómodo. Yo les propongo, estén en silencio con una persona con la que se sientan cómodos. Solo para variar, che.

A veces soy tan fácil que me indigno conmigo mismo.
“¿A Córdoba un sábado en pleno mes de julio? Bueno”. Qué fácil se me convence. Ahí voy estrenándome en el Ave como la gente importante camino de un certamen literario, del que no pienso escribir un comino. Es lo que tenemos los stars, lo vemos fácil si nos dicen billete pagado, hostal enfrente de la Mezquita y barra libre de salmorejo. Un taxi negro me deja nada más apearme de la estación enfrente de la fundación donde Antonio Gala apupila a los que son, dicen, las promesas noveles de la literatura.
“Aquí está el tío”, brindo al público entrando por la puerta del teatrillo. Me miran 20 viejos y pasan. Me he equivocado, seguro, este taxista cordobés y gente de bien no puede ser, yo venía a un cachondeo juvenil, literario sí, pero cachondeo, con sus poetisas liberales e, insisto, cachondas. Era tan joven que aún confiaba en la literatura. Nada, allí la generación Z estaría de resaca. Me acogió un tal Eloy, rocabili que me pegó una brasa con su libro que ni yo con mi blog años más tarde. En las Tendillas pasa el tiempo tan lento.
Jornada vespertina y más escritores. Algo aprendí, no confíes nunca en la literatura femenina. Menos mal que a última hora vinieron los SFDK (Siempre Fuertes De Konciencia) a un taller de rapear, y los presentes improvisamos unas letrillas para reírnos un rato.
Al terminar, nueve de la noche, me veía to Tristofer metío en la habitación del hostal hasta que saliera el Ave de vuelta. Pero la desesperación a veces es el camino a la solución. Vi de lejos a Juanma. Lo conocía porque un año antes ganó un premio de poesía a sus veintipocos añitos y había salido en todos los periódicos. También fui a su rueda de prensa.
“Oye, tú eres Juanma, ¿no?". “Sí”. “Pues dime que esta noche nos vamos de marcha, no hace falta que rime con nada”. Fuimos a cenar y me contó que había mucha gente joven en el cursillo, llevaban tres días de certámen en la barra de los bares y que a quién se le ocurría ir a las conferencias. “Perdona, soy nuevo en este mundo, pero veo que es igual de borracho que los otros mundos que conozco”. Dentro de la programación, del sábado destacaba el concierto de SFDK, así que cogimos río arriba hacia la carpa.
“¿Y toda esta gente es del certamen?", por fin el chavaleo. “¿Y está una chica que ha ganado el concurso de sms?” ”Estuvo ayer, impresionante, la dejé anoche con un tal Paco, periodista de Sevilla, ¿te suena?”. “Y tanto que me suena, la misma canción, siempre llego tarde”. Adiós a la gimnasia, voy a levantar unos vasos a la barra.
Para las manchas de mora, amoralidad, o sea, cualquier amor es bueno. Apareció una chica de Villarrobledo que me contó su vida hasta que dije “vámonos” y ella dijo “venga”. Cogí camino de la puerta, pero me paró una voz conocida, no de hace mucho tiempo. Mi salvador, ahora absolutamente prescindible. “Ey, ¿adónde váis?”. “Esto, mira Juanma, gracias por todo, un tío genial, eh, buena gente de verdad, te deseo mucha suerte en el futuro, cuando seas famoso acuérdate de los amigos, pero hasta aquí duró, adiós chico, un placer”, le tendría que haber dicho, pero se me encaramó y me lo llevé de copas. A veces soy tan fácil que me doy asco.
La chica no comprendía la jugada, cómo haber dejado a Juanma en la estacada. Pero del marrón a veces sale la solución. “Oye, ¿tú no quería conocer a la del sms?, ésta es amiga suya, dice”. “¿Y crees que le importará que la despertemos a las 3 de la madrugada?”. No me podía ir sin conocerla, así que tras burlar a la seguridad de su hostal, “toc, toc, toc” y ya éramos cuatro, dos pareados.
Bebimos ron en la habitación de la albaceteña hasta que descubrí el mejor recurso literario jamás visto, propio de un maestro del género. Juanma se quedó dormido en una cama. Al rato la del sms dijo que se iba a su cuarto que estaba cansada y a la de Villarrobledo lo mismo le daba mientras hubiera buena métrica, así que vi fácil el cambio de melodía, me despedí y al abrir la puerta miré atrás y comprobé lo sospechado: Juanma entreabría un ojo y sonreía. El poeta canalla, noctívago, mujeriego, farolero, entrañable, resucitó y seguirá vivo por muchos años. Brindo por ello.
A solas con la poetisa, la historia merecía un final feliz, un epílogo digno de recordar. Así fue. Toda la noche, en su habitación y en la mía, bajo la luna y el sol, a las faldas de la Mezquita, hablando. Fácil de conversación. La erótica de las palabras, será, la chica no estaba dispuesta a que su "convertimos el amor en un gimnasio" le volviera a ocurrir. Ya me lo dijo por teléfono el día que le anuncié su premio: “el amor, como otras tantas cosas en la vida, no se debe hacer con esfuerzo sino con calma, paciencia y tranquilidad”. G-n-l.
Salía su autobús, desayunamos mientras Córdoba volvía a la vida, y la acompañé a la estación antes de coger mi Ave de vuelta. Para que el círculo quedara cerrado y como la vida es azar, allí estaba Juanma, solo en la barra con media de pan con aceite. “¿Que tal?", pregunté cuando la poetisa fue al servicio. “Buff, una fiera”. Reímos. “¿Y tú con ésta?, bien, imagino”. Le sonreí. “¿Sexo y seso riman fácil, poeta?”. Sólo cuando quieren.

Le miniere di zolfo


20 Agosto 2008 Questa mattina la sveglia è prima del solito perchè il viaggio sarà lungo. La prima destinazione è Caltanissetta dove dobbiamo incontrare Michele e la sua famiglia che ci attendono presso uno studio fotografico. Abbandonata Gela la strada ci porta nel cuore della Sicilia fra dolci colline, campi di grano e cielo azzurro. Arrivati incominciamo subito con le interviste e scopriamo come si viveva e lavora nelle miniere di zolfo, motore principale dell'economia di Caltanissetta nel passato. Molto interesante anche il racconto dei moti dell'acqua del '54 e della loro repressione nel sangue. Michele collaboratore della Banca della Memoria in Sicilia, ci ha organizzato un incontro con il vicesindaco della citta di Caltanissetta Fiorella Falci, che entusiasta del nostro progetto, ci propone una collaborazione. Si tratta del primo contatto con un ente istituzionale e siamo molto fieri che provenga dal Sud. Lasciamo Caltanissetta non prima di aver assaggiato alcuni docli tipici come gli immancabili cannoli e il rollò. La direzione che prendiamo è Palermo anzi decidiamo di andare fino a Scopello dove arriviamo durante un matrimonio. Vedere tutta questa gente vestita a festa con il caldo insistente ci fa indirizzare verso il nostro agriturismo nella quiete e nel fresco delle colline del vino dietro ad Alcamo.

Photographer and fisherman Corey Arnold continues to keep busy with both of his fulltime careers. Although we haven't been able to keep with him and the rest of the crew of the F/V Rollo for the last couple of seasons, they're definitely out there hauling in King and Opilio crab. The great thing about Corey Arnold though, is that we can certainly keep up with his other work through his own site and other websites such as the Oceanic Institute's post below...

Join us Thursday, September 18th at 7pm for a fun and illuminating evening with a worldwide recognized photographer and "Deadliest Catch" documentary veteran.

Corey Arnold is a photographer recognized worldwide for his iconic pictures of crab fishing in Alaska. He is also a crab fisherman himself, and has worked seasonally as a deckhand in Alaska since 1995. You may have seen him working aboard the F/V Rollo on Discovery Channel's hit documentary series "Deadliest Catch". He has also spent many years in Norway documenting the fishermen and whalers of the Barents Sea. A young photographer, at age 32 Corey has quickly made a name for himself in the contemporary photography world. His work has been shown in leading galleries in Los Angeles and New York City and featured in The New Yorker, Outside Magazine, Fortune, Juxtapoz, Rolling Stone and major promotional campaigns for the Discovery Channel.

Episode Review:
So Rollo admitted that he indeed killed Shirley Fenette. Despite the anguish and hatred Lelouch feels at what Rollo just did. He was able to mask it off by praising Rollo and thus deciding to take out or annihilate the Order of Geass. The original plan was to use them but now that Lelouch has lost Shirley, he decides to do this as his way to atone to what happened to Shirley.
They succeeded in locating the secret base of the Order with the help of Jeremiah's communication codes. Lelouch gives the Black Knights orders to shoot on sight everyone in the facility. Women and children are no excemption to this order. Some knights now start to question why did they raid such facility. V.V. fights back using Siegfried and charges towards Lelouch. The Black Knights battle it out to take down Siegfried and in the end together with a knightmare modified by Cornelia attacking Siegfried from below, they were able to take it down.
Lelouch orders the Black Knights to search for any survivors within the facility along with it he searches for V.V.

Seeing V.V. crawling back to the place where he first saw V.V.
Lelouch position himself to finsih V.V. life but something triggered and warped Lelouch together with his personal knightmare to a place above the clouds. There he saw something he wasnt suppose to see as of yet. The emperor of Britannia.

Editor's Notes:

So Lelouch is good at telling lies on after the other. If a person such as him does exist in our time, he'll definitely be a very dangerous person. Rollo's death was abruptly interrupted in this episode. Makes me wonder if Sunrise has plans on how they will extinguish the life out of this character. Shirley's death really is a trigger for Lelouch decisions in this episode. To atone, he decided to eliminate the Order instead of going to the plan that he talked about with C.C.
Cornelia was also saved by Jeremiah this episode. So will she side with the Black Knights or remain as a Britannian Princess. Suzaku also plans to use refrain towards Kallen. Im starting to hate Suzaku for just attemping to do it. I'd never sell anyone even if it means my death. Its something that will remind you that you are human.

Oh god. Oh god. Why??!! WHY SUNRISE??!! Of all people why did you have to kill off ROLLO??!!!

WHY?! OMG, I actually cried while reading the summary. Although I know a lot off people hate Rollo cuz he killed Shirley yadayada but he was one of my favourite characters. I didn't really like Shirley in the first place so when he killed her I wasn't really affected. BUT WHY ROLLO?! Well, I guess he really trusted Lelouch, even though it was obvious Lelouch was using him all this while. I am positive I'm gonna cry buckets when I watch the actual episode. The good point was that Lelouch finally accepted Rollo as his brother.

Now Lelouch's lost pratically EVERYTHING. The Black Knights have turned against him, because of that idiot Schneizal. Now Lelouch's vowed to bring his dear daddy down with him to hell. RAWR. White chocolate surprise muffins

I like to make these for Eid for my aunts and uncles. So I usually make them in small little paper cups. It looks good when the caramel oozes out of the muffin, you can use whatever filled chocolate in this recipe, but I prefer Rollo's or if you can't find them caramel filled chocolate bars from Cadbury works as well. Cuidado! Don't burn your tongue, let the muffins cool down for a tad.

Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup Self-raising flour
3/4 cup Sugar
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
1 c Milk
250 gm Butter, melted
2 lg Eggs
1 t Vanilla extract
90 gm White chocolate, broken and melted with 50 gm butter
1 cup White chocolate chips
A couple rolls of Rollo or any caramel centred chocolates

Directions:
1.Preheat the oven 190 C for 10 minutes.
2.Sift the flour/salt/baking powder into a bowl.
3. Combine sugar/melted butter/milk/eggs/vanilla extract and mix with a mixer for a while, as long batter not lumpy. Don't mix too long.
4. Add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, add the melted white chocolate, and the white chocolate chips and stir the batter.
5. Arrange muffin trays with those flimsy muffin paper thingies, should be enough for 12 muffins.
6. Pour 1/3 of the batter into each muffin paper thingies, put one rollo in, cover with the rest of the batter about 2/3s full.
7.Repeat with the rest of the batter.
8. Eat the rest of the rollos.
9. Bake in the oven for 20 mins or until the caramel oozes out and the muffin looks slightly golden.
10. Stare in amazement at the muffins.
11. Too hot to eat still so take it out of the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
12. Temptation strikes, you bite into the muffin and you encounter a gush of hot caramel.

Saturday traditions in our household have always been: a) Andrew takes an afternoon nap b) The cats take an afternoon nap. These two occurrences are usually simultaneous. The camera is downstairs so I had to masterfully use my MacBook webcam to snap up these gems. Andy pie is very fast asleep. Rollo is snoring on on his back, tummy up and legs open as per usual. Milla is pretty much on top of Rollo's face. This is my family.

Tipps zum Einbau von Dachflächenfenstern

Hier folgen ein paar Tips zum Einbau von Dachflächenfenstern aus meiner persönlichen Erfahrung. Wenn mir noch mehr einfällt, werde ich den Post entsprechend erweitern.

Auf Sonnenschutz und Außenrollos sollte nicht verzichtet werden. Lieber gleich am Anfang dazukaufen, auch wenn alles so noch einmal teurer wird. Wenn man hier spart, spart man am falschem Fleck, denn der Einfluss auf die Lebensqualität unterm Dach ist enorm.
Wenn das Fenster eingebaut wird, sollte man darauf achten, dass die Isolation (Styrodur, Schaum...) bis ans Fenster reicht und keine Hohlräume übrig bleiben. Hier wird gern schludrig gearbeitet und im Nachhinein sieht man auch nichts mehr. Bei der Arbeit dabei sein und aufpassen zahlt sich da aus, wenn man seinem Handwerker nicht 100 Prozent vertraut.
Generell sollte lieber ein Fenster zuviel als eines zuwenig eingebaut werden. Man lebt ja 20 Jahre mit der baulichen Lösung, und mehr Licht wertet die Lebensqualität auf.

Ich würde auch keine zu kleinen Fenster einbauen. Manche Handwerker meinen, dass wegen der vorhanden Sparrenkonstruktion besser mehrere kleinere Fenster statt einem großen eingebaut werden sollen. Es ist aber kein Problem, die Sparren abzuschneiden, aber es macht eben mehr Arbeit. Besser ist auf jeden Fall ein schönes großes Fenster.
Unter jedem Fenster sollte ein Heizkörper stehen. Wenn man eine Fußbodenheizung hat, sollte man am Besten schon in der Planungsphase dort mehr Spiralen einkalkulieren, wo die Fenster enden.

Zakes Mda is my new favourite author. I'm engrossed in his writing style. How naiive was I that I didn't even know such great South African literature existed? Sure I'm no expert of South African literature, but what I've read so far I've quite enjoyed.

The Madonna of Excelsior is a contemporary novel set in the 1970's-1990's. I'll be writing my English essay on it this week. I'm absolutely at a loss for words. My essay writing is not my strongest skill. I'm more of a blogger ;) heh heh heh. I'm procrastinating because I have to justify all my opinions about how I think and why I think. "All these things flow from the sins of our mothers" is the statement I need to agree or disagree with. It's going to be a tough sell for me because I always see both sides of the coin, so choose to write about both, eventually getting penalized for not justifying my opinions strongly enough and blurring the two opposing opinions. Maybe I won't sit on the fence this time, I'll just go in for the kill and disagree wholeheartedly.

The second book I need to write an essay on is Disgrace. It's a JM Coetzee masterpiece, and yet I felt quite depressed after I put the book down. I've had to take a month vacation away from it until I'm ready to give my opinions. So much conflict and opposites, it's difficult to decide which direction I'll go with my essay. Do I take the moral high ground or humble martyr route? *sigh* I don't have the most academic opinions when it comes to writing essays about reading novels, I love or hate them for what they are. I'm a simple girl, blogging at home in bed in my boyfriend's over sized jersey at 11:14pm on a Monday evening with my devoted, snoring cat lying on my chest... see?

Where To Begin...

I'm not use to using wordpress yet. The last time I blogged (and boy did I blog!) I used blogspot. Andrew (my masterful boo) recommended wordpress.

I shall begin with a few pictures, because that's always a great place to start.

This is my chocolate boy, Rollo. Here he was 12 weeks old. He's from Sandra Featherstone over in the karoo at Catadore. She has a reputation for breeding champions!

He is quite a charmer. We couldn't decide on a name for him at first. We called him "kitten" for his first 3 days with us. We eventually decided on Rollo because he has an enduring habit of rolling over onto his back for a tummy rub. If you're into Burmese, you'll understand the affection factor that makes them totally irresistible.

Meet Milla. She is 5 years old. Since Rollo has taken over the household, she has become more demure. She watches him gracefully from a distance, and her face pretty much has "Rollo, you're retarded" written all over it. She is less needy these days, but still affectionate. While Rollo is boisterous and passionate, she is graceful and calm. It's a great balance to have.

I love my Burmese. They are my children slash pets. As soon as I get my camera sorted out, I'll take some more faboo pics. I put the camera down for nearly two years now... it's definitely time to take up photography again. What inspired me? I will show you in due course...

Hitzetod wegen ungedämmten Dachflächenfenstern

Mein Schwager hat mit seiner Frau das alte Ausgedingehaus neben dem Wohnhaus ihrer Eltern übernommen. Nachdem die Vormieter endlich ausgezogen waren, haben die beiden sofort mit der Renovierung und Umgestaltung des Hauses begonnen. Pläne vom Architekten hatten sie sich schon vorher machen lassen, und die Baufirma war auch schon vorgewarnt.

Unter anderem haben die Wohnräume einen ganz neuen Grundriss erhalten. An dem einen Ende des Hauses war früher eine große offene Terrasse im ersten Stock. Dort wurde jetzt das Hausdach verlängert und darunter ein schöner Holzaufbau verwirklicht. Allerdings wurde kein Dachboden eingezogen, so dass der neu geschaffene Innenraum jetzt sehr hoch und luftig ist. Von diesem neuen Wohnzimmer aus wird eine offene Treppe in den "alten" Dachboden führen. Der wird jetzt nicht mehr nur wie früher als Speicher genutzt, sondern wurde im vorderen Teil ausgebaut. Dort ist jetzt das Elternschlafzimmer.

Letzte Woche wurde uns wieder die Baustelle gezeigt. Die ganze Woche davor hatte mein Schwager seinen Urlaub damit verbracht, Handwerkern beim Dachdämmen zuzuarbeiten. Die Dämmung ist im Bereich des "alten" Dachbodens eine Zwischensparrendämmung, mit zusätzlicher Dämmung mit trittfesten Dämmplatten am Fußboden. Auch ein neues Dachflächenfenster wurde eingebaut.

Was das Fenster betrifft, hatte sich mein Schwager keine Gedanken zur Wärmedämmung gemacht. Bisher war nur ein Rollo für die Innenseite vorgesehen. Das funktioniert ganz gut, wenn man das Licht draußen halten will. Gegen die Sonnenhitze bringt das aber fast nichts, wie ich leider auch schon selbst daheim feststellen musste. Die Wärme ist dann nämlich schon durch die Scheibe und im Haus drinnen, wo sie sich schön verbreiten kann. Da hilft nur, außen am Fenster eine Markise anzubringen. Ich habe ihn auf jeden Fall jetzt mal ins Grübeln gedacht, obwohl er noch nicht so hundertprozentig überzeugt schien. Er kann ja noch den ersten Sommer im Haus abwarten...

El partido de hoy da para comentarios. Que conste que escribo esto sin el menor conocimiento de marketing y quizás me cuele totalmente. Espero comentarios al respecto.

Me he estado fijando en los anunciantes del Garros y hay uno que me resulta especialmente bien situado y simpático: nuestras amigas las gafas que te vas a llevar unas pero entonces pagas un euro más porque así te llevas dos, Tchin Tchin de Afflelou. Unas son para ti y otras para quien quieras tú

Es estupendo, tratas de ver el partido, y ves la cosa tirando a regular, ni por donde va la bola, ni acabas de ver bien a los jugadores, y entonces ves el anuncio: Alain Afflelou. Ya está hecha la relación, con unas gafas veré mejor esto, en concreto las Afflelou.

O eso o sobrevaloro a estos del marketing

Cuando ves una corrida por la tele, te enteras, gracias a los comentaristas, de que el torero nunca tiene la culpa. Él pone todo de su parte pero no le sale nada porque el toro no da juego. La culpa es, pues, del toro. Curiosamente, nunca escucharás a esos mismos comentaristas echarle la culpa del juego del toro al ganadero. El ganadero no es responsable de que el toro, todos sus toros, sean mansos, se caigan y tal. Es la Naturaleza, que es así de caprichosa. Es la Naturaleza, que le tiene manía al hombre. Es la Naturaleza, que, como venganza, provoca terremotos en China y aquí en España toros que son un coñazo. No lo digo yo, lo he oído en la tele.

Enrique Ponce diciéndole a Dios eso de "a la salida te espero" por haber echado al ruedo esos toros tan rollo de Alcurrucén.
