"Am I a good friend for you? If yes, just reply this message. If no, just leave this message. And you will see the miracle"

Kira-kira inti smsnya gitu deh. Aq gak ingat jelas. Dia cuma tulis :

"You are my best friend that i ever had"

Thanx God,, day by day,,more and more U give me surprise in this life....especially my best friend, ary...^_^

That's what Elbert Hubbard said. He was a US Author --- nothing I've read.

But the quote is worth the read.

Things that happened this week -- I moved back into my apartment, had Labor Day off, had the horrible stomach bug that's been going around, left work half a day early Tuesday, took Wednesday "off" to recooperate, staggered through work for the rest of the week, and went to the house for the weekend to recooperate.

Did I mention it's my 22nd birthday on Monday? Yep.

But the good news is that I'm good to eat real meals now. So that's nice. Had Chinese today. mmmmm.

So, there you go. Life really is just one damned thing after another, until you die of course. Then no one knows what really happens. It's all faith based and no two faiths are the same. But we'll save that for another post.

Hubbard had another quote that made a lot of sense:

Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out of it alive.

How true is that? If you go through life with a stick up your ass, you'll probably die sooner (most likely due to trauma for said stick up ass......) and not have enough fun. Yes, there are a lot of twists and turns, bumps and humps, hickeys and bruises, but you don't have to be stone faced when it comes to life. Life is laughter, pain, crying, happiness, sadness....all the emotions we ever feel all rolled up into one.

Without it, we're not human. Who knows what we are -- alien, monster, animal, but even they show emotions. So without life, we're stone faced, inadamate objects.

(Since when did I get so philosophical?)

I outta get off. Typing'd been weird since I cut my nails....now typing with the tips of my fingers rather than the pads. Guess I got used to typing with long nails. Maybe that's also why I've been so slow typing this week......*shrug*

When we sent people to

Team USA Needs To Be Solving Problems -
by Cricket Diane C Phillips, 09-04-08

When we sent people to Washington, we sent them to be our Team USA. There aren’t “two sides of the aisle”. They are sitting in official buildings we own and are all part of one team. That is why they are there.

We sent them there to spend our money wisely, to work as a team to serve our best interests and to accomplish what we alone could not. Our Congress, our Executive and our Judiciary are the Team USA that we placed there to fight the real enemies of our nation - not each other.

The real enemies are on our door steps. Evidence of these enemies is obvious. A capitalist nation cannot survive without a strong economic foundation. Our foundation and the structural tenets of that economy are crumbling. We are in danger of the harm which will come as a result. This is certainly a real enemy of our nation.

We are so completely dependent on gasoline as fuel that it is now a matter of national security. Any world power could shut off supply to our country in any great measure leaving us with a complete halt to life as we know it. Everything moves in our country by some form of petroleum. This, too, is a real enemy of our nation’s well-being and security.

Our national business assets are being sold off to foreign interests who may or may not favor us later. We will not be able to rebuild these. The jobs that were lost will not be reclaimed nor replaced. Competing with them in the marketplace, once these businesses belong to foreign interests, is unlikely. In every arena, our own businesses now owned elsewhere are competing against us for the same market shares. Since this undermines our employment base and our opportunities to realize business profitability, it is also an enemy to our nation’s sustenance.

Made in America has become known for shoddily made and overpriced. Too many recalls and unjustifiable harms, even deaths have come to those who bought products made in our recent profiteering environment. The real cost of our business interests making poor ethical choices for good profit reasons has dropped our global credentials to a pathetic level. This is definitely an enemy of the USA.

The cruelty, viciousness and complete disregard for others pervades every facet of American society. Lack of tolerance for diversity and differences has led to a land of terror for many, rather than of freedom. This has created abuses of civil and human rights everywhere in America over many years and increases each year. Clearly, this is an enemy worthy of fighting, too.

These are our real enemies. All of these items and more await on our doorstep. We elected leaders from among us to work as a team against these common enemies. What we have is a bunch of bickering demagogues who are fighting amongst themselves for their party’s interests and their own advantages.

And, meanwhile - solutions that might be enacted aren’t. People’s lives that could have been made better and more secure lay in ruin. Dismal consequences from unabated global ecological changes are unfolding. The opportunities for the US economy to be righted are missed. And, worst of all, the Team USA continues its bickering in every position from local and state governments all the way to the US Congress and the White House. Its as if it doesn’t matter as long as each party wins out over the other.

Now, our real enemies threaten to overtake us. We have solutions for many parts of them - these simply need to be placed into use. Together, we could work out the rest as we go.

crowd behaviour amuses me.

there are always long lines for the 145 bus, the last leg of my trip to school. the school crowds are big enough that they have us board through all 2 or 3 doors, and security is there to make sure we stay in lines and off the road. today a 2-door bus showed up just after i arrived, but when it was 2/3 full a 3-door bus pulled up behind it. suddenly almost everyone rushed for the other bus. i figured i had the choice of standing on the first bus or standing on the second, so i stayed with the first and had plenty of room to stand in - normally we're packed like sardines :P

once the doors closed I looked around, and noticed something that's far too common. the newer buses have some seats at the front that automatically fold up, for the convenience of wheelchairs n'stuff. a pair of these seats had been left up, and there were so few students on the bus that nobody was even standing in the space the seats would occupy!

i waited a minute to see if anyone would take the seats, then pushed my way to the front and put the seats down myself. :) once i'd done that, someone else sat in the other seat, but he would have stood for the whole ride if I'd gone to the other bus. :P
i'm not sure if people have trouble with the latch that releases the seats, or it's one of those funny social things, or if they just don't care... but it got me a seat on the bus today. :)

i'm also happy to see more no-smoking signs around sfu. there are a few outdoor areas that i have to walk through regularly, and now i don't have to try and hold my breath for them. yay :)

Back in Korea, and out of my brain ...

Future-Goa trance (a brand of techno for those not in the know) is on my system and usually I prefer silence to sounds ... as I get old these days ... but hell, I'm drinking, drunk, feeling careless, and free ... soju - Korean vodka by the bottle is the taste today, tonight, as I write.

First week back of teaching kids English and hell it was great - kids so cute and fun - and hell it was fuckin' hell; mostly cos i came back from Hong Kong sick and tired and maybe a God-induced revenage for the excesses of the Philippines ... like fuck - but hell i was spinning and coughing shit like I had bird-flu ... after many many tablets and my first alcohol in 4 days I am happy to report that I am well. But also: out of my brain.

Luckily, it's now Friday, Friday night.

So here I am: nearly 3 months into this new lifestyle of Gwangyang - means "Sunshine" - in southern coastal South Korea, although 4 weeks has been summer vacation - most in the Philippines & Hong Kong - and my contact is a quarter over! And still: I am alone.

Alone drinking this bottle (my 2nd: 330ml Soju); alone writing this; alone listening to this; alone with my thoughts, alone with my TV - which, thankfully, is off cos of the fucking limited channels beyond a warped bad-color reception of CNN playing boring fuckin' party conventions where every wanky-nobody is apparently somebody = fuckin' crap: some international perspective CNN - what rubbish you serve the world; anyway, apart from you dull fucks, I'm alone with a blank TV screen, and my wanting cock.

Now, what is more dangerous that Afghanistan simmering, Taleban emerging, Bin Laden hiding, cos unlike those fuckers - I want to get out; I want to surrender; I want to cum.

Actually, I think those fuckers are more important issues than my need-be orgasm - so let's kill them fuckers now ... Ouch. I am distracted.

I am in Korea alone ... and am happy for that; and also have no choice. My Korean co-workers speak no English and the ones that do are married women and thus there is no conversation - beyond class. This small city has no English - beyond students shrieking happily across streets to me, and that's, cool, I always reply, even thu it often means avoiding a traffic accident as I look away and reply at the wrong time. And while the young girls call me "handsome"; the older women of Korea - the legal ones - don't ever look at me. I am helpless; I am fuckless in Korea ... unless, I visit a prostitute.

Praise be to the bottle (and to you - God, of course!)

Anyway, I am happy. Very Happy ... Simply, I don't care ... After 42 years of life and 21 years of constant travel I understand the nature of humanity and simply I feel that - I don't need people ... that I am alone; have been alone all my life, and that we are born alone - and that we must, die alone.

WHY do I feel this way ???

My conclusions after a history of being very popular at high school and university and having numerous girlfriends and zillions of friends was/is that most people are boring beyond an hour of conversation and as a traveller you meet many more that are interesting but that slowly you see their stories are the same ...

Prostitutes from poor backgrounds; western travellers seeing the world for one year; shark salespeople; bored husbands and wives; pitiful, poor people that make you wonder - ; rich, aloof tourists who treat the world as their playground; and multudes of smiling kids, unknowing of their future ...

What everyone knows - is their own backyard and 20 kms beyond ... they only know what they know - and for me, that is not enough; I need to see/know the big picture - which is why I wander and seek new people; other ideas.

I see the world much different from common news and sensationalist TV shows, and my failure to find a partner - I am appproaching 42 - is in the fact that I don't often have a meeting of minds ... with anyone ... as everyone - not, you, I assume - seems to want the standard view of the world ...

http://gdgt.com/

You choose a career in some way, inadvertently or not, and then you start walking down that road for years on end. Until/unless something happens to push you one way or another. During this process you're apt to be upwardly mobile (hopefully), and we all see people move from one place to another, claim to bring something new to the table, but ultimately do the same thing.

I'm not looking forward to that website. I'm sure you can tell.

Gadget news blogs tend to be far more prone to misinformation than their counterparts in several industries. The writers often aren't familiar with the subject, or they wisecrack about the wrong things at the wrong time. They're prone to using humor for humor's sake but to very bad effect. And they also do this in the name of independence, of realism, not letting the corporate world dictate their opinions - I say bull. If you're not professional enough for your job, no amount of realism would save your ass. In the end, news blogs and personal blogs become just another PR tool for the corporate world. Amateur folks get invited to PR events, they hyperventilate, say inappropriately nice things about the product. The vicious cycle goes on.

Am I jealous because their blogging gave them their success, and my blogging only reaffirms that I'm a testicle with a brain? You'll see me ask this question a lot, and the answer is almost always yes, I am jealous. I wonder about the choices I've made in life, and I'm not crass enough to not be hard on myself. But in this case at least, I don't think my jealousy detracts from my opinion. This is madness.

But yes, I do check these sites, because they pool all relevant news together in one place. Can I do that with google news? I should look into that.

What do I do come January, thus the end of my entire college career? I seem to be considering anything and everything to ward off the inevitable ‘real world.’ But I do want to travel the world, and this kind of fell into my lap as a half planned adventure. Most people say just go for it now, because this is my one chance before I’m tied down to ‘real world’ responsibilities. I don’t really have the funds for it, but the coffee shop cents and sense in the form of two gentlemen, claim that if I can manage to make it happen I should. “Noone ever says ‘damn I wish I hadn’t taken that time and traveled and had the most incredible time and seen the most incredible sights,’ just do it.” Said the guy a few hours after starting his joint business/law degree at NYU. But then again, I do know part of what goes on inside my head, and I know that I’m scared shitless of making decisions. I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. Should I stay or should I go? Should I move across the world or should I start my life here? Should I travel? Should I move someplace not quite all the way across the world? Should I just stay? With all these realities looming ahead, January seems way too close for comfort.

Here I am with a product that I’ve created. Its in a tangible form. It was listed on Ebay this

Here I am with a product that I've created. Its in a tangible form. It was listed on Ebay this last week and barely seen by anyone. This could be in stores. It would bring a smile to the face of customers and may keep them from being robbed at some point.

If nothing else, it could make money for me and for the stores selling it. This is the right timing for this product and it is distinctive - it has personality and character. It could easily be offered for the right price with a small profit. There are a number of retail store categories that could appropriately carry it.

So, now what?

To Publishers - blocked

To Trade Mart Stores - blocked

To Angel Investors - blocked

Directly To Market - blocked

To Retail Store Buyers - blocked

To Sell Rights To Someone Else To Use - blocked

To Promote It - Not blocked, but how?

To Sell Online - Online Availability - Not blocked by Fact, but Unseen for the multitude of info there

So, therefore - what possibilities truly exist whether I have a unique, sales-worthy product or not?

Written by Cricket Diane C "Sparky" Phillips, 09-03-08

"If I had known that the only contribution allowable to me because I am a woman would be to clean the floors under the feet of my family and wash their clothes - I wouldn't have bothered to learn calculus or business or physics.

If I'd known there will never be any money from any business I might create, would I have ever tried to create anything or worked so hard to learn how to make it work as a business? Probably not.

But, isn't the truth of it that my efforts have proven it doesn't work for me? Apparently the access available and the things I've studied from books for accessing the marketplace with products are blocked to me. That means that no matter what I write, it won't ever be published in a book. I can create products distinguished and unique every day of my life and never see them making a profit for me. And, until I die in poverty, I will have lived in poverty each and every one of the days in my life.

Now, why didn't they just tell me it would be that way when I was going to school? Wouldn't it have been simpler to say to me that I would never have the opportunities available to men including value as anything besides the person to clean up after everyone?

Why didn't the teachers and clergy and others just tell me that the world doesn't need anything created by a woman and won't pay anything for it if it is created by a woman? And, that I would have to work many times harder to make many times less for anything I might do because as a woman, society considers that to be okay?

Certainly not everything I create is 'good enough' to make it in the marketplace. But, some of it is and there is no reasonable access to bring it to the marketplace to find out if it would do well or not. That means, the truth about America is not that it is a land of opportunity but rather that it is not, except to those already positioned and in the right 'class' to accomplish it.

I am horrified to think about the forty some odd years wasted in the pursuit of this, the learning and re-learning after brain injury, the obscenely abusive relationships I've survived and all along there was no real chance of anything I've worked to do or to create actually making a living for me.

What kind of America is that? And, why couldn't the teachers and society during my lifetime have simply told me it was like this? Why was I taught that every individual is valuable and has the opportunity to bring good things to the world, to make a living from their talents, to make a contribution to the world? Since apparently the considered basis for determining what are delusions of grandeur are those very things - why would anyone have taught me that bunch of shit?"

Sean Faris

For actor Sean Faris, life as he knows it has kicked into high gear. He recently showcased his talents in the coveted lead role of Summit Entertainment’s Never Back Down which has been likened to a cross between Fight Club and Karate Kid, and recently returned to New York City starring for filmmaker Jessy Terrero in Brooklyn to Manhattan. Also on the horizon is the central role in the rugby-inspired feature Forever Strong. Additionally, he appeared as Dennis Quaid’s eldest son in Paramount’s hit remake of the classic Yours, Mine & Ours and previously starred as the hunky object of affection in MGM’s comedy romp Sleepover. In direct contrast, Sean starred as the lead in Fox’s acclaimed drama series Reunion which followed six close friends from their high school graduation to their 20th reunion. He previously led the cast of ABC’s dramatic series Life as We Know It. Based upon British author Melvin Burgess’ controversial novel Doing It, the acclaimed show chronicled the sexual antics of a group of high school friends in Seattle. For his role as sensitive jock Dino Whitman, he was heralded as a breakout talent by the likes of Daily Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and USA Today. No stranger to television, Sean has also guest-starred on such shows as Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Boston Public. His big screen debut featured him alongside the likes of Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett in Michael Bay’s epic Pearl Harbor. A Texas native, Sean moved to Ohio at age 12 and has been honing his craft in Los Angeles since moving four years ago upon his high school graduation.

As we tried to get our key cards to work in yet another soulless business hotel earlier this week, it struck researcher Louise and I that what recent graduates really need is a post-grad course on How To Survive in Business, i.e. the stuff they never teach you at Uni but you need to know to survive in the real business world. We think the modules should include:

Effective use of hotel bedroom key cards (obviously)

Powerpoint 101

Photocopying for Beginners

Advanced use of SatNav

Transferring Phone Calls – beyond the call pickup button

Office Kitchen Etiquette

Business Travel: laptops are heavier than you think

Final exam case study: M&S Simply Food – saviour of motorway dining

Okay, this post isn't exactly about WoW. But I went for a really nice bike ride yesterday, and I just wanted to share a couple pictures I took. Keep in mind - I don't live on the outskirts of Ottawa, I live pretty close to the middle. One neat feature is the Central Experimental farm. It's about 4 square kilometers of farm land in the middle of the city. I am lucky enough to live just up the street from it, so in the month or so that we aren't all couped up in our igloos, I get to bike through it every day on my way to and from work.

When I was biking today, I noticed the name of the farm road that I bike down, not sure how I never noticed it before. It's called "Cow Lane".

And who are the only residents of cow lane?

There's also the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, a man-made canal, and the famous longest skating rink in the winter months. It is beautiful in all seasons though, and has some great bike paths along each side.

Anyway... I just thought I'd share those with you. And I apologize for the peccadillo of leaving the timestamp in the pictures, it wasn't my camera and I didn't realize they were being saved like that!

I'll have a real WoW post tomorrow... I promise!

well, i had my first day of classes today. it wasn’t my first day back at school, though - yes

well, i had my first day of classes today. it wasn't my first day back at school, though - yesterday i spent the day standing in lines for things like texkbooks and lockers and free ice cream. :)

anyways, today was spent sitting in lectures as well as standing in lines. i've got two math classes, which seem like they'll be fun (yeah, i like math), and the dreaded cmpt 275, a project course that nobody likes - group work and "deliverables" and we don't even get to choose the groups, ugh.

it was a bit disconcerting being reminded of how windows-centric the world still is. i spent the summer in a nice happy kde bubble and now i have to deal with courses where it's assumed everyone uses windows... i was somewhat relieved to find out the cmpt 275 teacher will accept assignments in .odf format as well as .doc. *sigh* most of these people don't know what kde is. i don't think i've ever seen anyone use it, despite the reasonable percentage of CS students with linux installed.

i miss kde. i miss having a laptop, too, although this n810 is really handy on campus. i haven't had time to install ssh or anything like that on here, the default software's not so good for following mailing lists or rss, and my desktop comp is being weird (plus there's a guest sleeping in the computer room), so i've not got much idea what's going on in the community lately.

the good news is, i have ordered a laptop (dell m1330, dunno when it'll arrive), and since i have no class tomorrow i'm planning to spend the day dealing with software and data recovery n'stuff. :)

It’s about that time: FALL TV IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! This is good for a multitude of reasons, but

It's about that time: FALL TV IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! This is good for a multitude of reasons, but mostly revolves around the fact that we had a friggin' STRIKE last year! Now, all our faves are back in action and should hopefully play all year until the months of April or May. This blog will discuss/outline which shows I'll be watching (and probably writing about!) over the next TV season.

Get ready for a long one. This should be a doozy.

SUNDAY:

Family Guy, 9 p.m., FOX, Begins: Sept 28th

Yes, The Simpsons are on at 8 p.m., but does anyone honestly care anymore? Stewie and the talking dog is where it's at! The Simpsons may have paved the way, but the Griffins have clearly surpassed them for primetime's funniest cartoon family.

Dexter, 9 p.m., Showtime, Begins: Sept 28th

Hands down the most intriguing, morally gray, and dramatic show on television. And also...the best. I don't have Showtime, but thanks to DVDs and couch-sitting at some friends' houses I've been able to catch up. Can't wait to see what Dexter will get himself into next.

Entourage, 10 p.m., HBO, Begins: Sept. 7th

Though I'm DVR-ing Season 5 so I can catch up with 4 on DVD, I'll definitely be keeping up. Just hope the plot doesn't get even more stale by the time I catch up.

***ANOTHER EDIT***

Robot Chicken, 11:30 p.m., Cartoon Network, Begins: Sept. 7

Mmm. Clay. Um...actually: no comment. This can only get me in trouble.

MONDAY:

Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, 8 p.m., Fox, Begins: Sept. 8th

Ok, ok. This wasn't the best show. The writing was just OK, it's a TV show based off of movies from forever ago, etc. However, it kept me vested in TV for the duration of the strike AND has the lovable and charming Summer Glau from Serenity and Firefly. I was thinking about letting this one go, but with the addition of Shirley Manson to the cast? Not a chance. Though, this season will surely prove if this show sinks or swims.

How I Met Your Mother, 8:30 p.m., CBS, Begins: Sept. 22nd

In the days of the struggling sitcom, How I Met Your Mother has proved to be witty, smart, and laugh-out-loud hilarious. Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan...what a cast. What a show.

Heroes, 9 p.m., NBC, Begins: Sept 22nd

Kristen Bell remains the only reason I am going to watch this show. With a bloody terrible second season, it almost makes me nauseous that I'm going to waste more time on this...but Kristen!

TUESDAY:

Beverly Hills, 90210, 8 p.m., The CW, Begins: Sept. 2nd

Yeah, ok. Totally embarassing. But whatever. I probably won't stick with it, but I've got to at least check out the episodes with Shannen Doherty (4 eps).

Fringe, 9 p.m., FOX, Begins: Sept. 9th

Sci-fi show. J.J. Abrams. I'm sold.

WEDNESDAY:

Pushing Daisies, 8 p.m., ABC, Begins: Oct. 1st

This show is like The Sixth Sense meets Tim Burton, but in a fairy-tale-like way as opposed to a morbid, scary way. It's stylish, funny, touching, and well-written! Great cast, great stories...definitely my favorite new show of last season. Check it!

NO PICTURE BECAUSE ITS TOO SHAMEFUL

RW/RR Challenge: The Island, 10 p.m., MTV, Begins: Sept. 10th

I think this is even more embarassing than my 90210 confession. I'm going to go hide in a corner now.

THURSDAY:

Survivor, 8 p.m., CBS, Begins: Sept. 25th

Last season was AMAZING. I'm glad I started rewatching, and I'll be glad to catch the Gabon premiere on the 25th.

The Office, 9 p.m., NBC, Begins: Sept. 25th

No explanation needed here.

30 Rock, 9:30 p.m., NBC, Begins: Oct. 30th

Another show I've talked about on here quite a bit: 30 Rock is just as funny as it began, and just as smart. I like to think of it as my un-cancelled Arrested Development stand-in.

(*EDIT* EW says that Hulu will air the premiere a full week earlier than its air date. Check that out.)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 10 p.m., FX, Begins: Sept. 13th

The most underrated show on the air. The funniest show on the air. WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING ITS ALWAYS SUNNY YET!?!?!

Mid-Season Shows:

1. 24 is BACKKKKKKKKKKKK starting in January, but don't miss the 2-hour prequel to the 7th season, November 23rd! Party at my house! I can't wait for this series to return!

2. JOSS WHEDON's DOLLHOUSE. More on this as it gets closer to debut...

3. I'm not watching Lost. Ok, ok. I might. But if I do at all...I'm DVR-ing 4-6 episodes and watching them in HUGE chunks rather than week-to-week. CAN THIS SHOW END YET!?!?!

4. Scrubs - Moving to CBS for its 8th season due to the strike screwing with the Series Finale.

5. The Cleveland Show - Family Guy spinoff. This is probably going to suck, but I'll have to check it regardless.

----------

Yes, one could say I'm quite addicted to TV. My DVR is going to explode!
