Howard Stern decided to preform a little experiment in Harlem, he sent out one of his peeps to interview people on the street and see who they like for POTUS. The twist? He ascribed McCain's views to Obama to see if anyone would notice.

Wow. On the upside there seems to be quite a bit of support for Palin as Obama's VP, Biden better watch his back.

H/T Hot Air

PS - As funny as this is, rememebr there will be tons of people like this voting for Obama without having the slightest clue what the hell his policy positions are. That's just sad.

I am serving as a Scientific Coordinator in the CDF control room this week (other pics and info here

I am serving as a Scientific Coordinator in the CDF control room this week (other pics and info here and here and here), during the night shift (midnight to 8AM). It is impressive how well oiled the data taking machine has become with time: the store begun yesterday at 16.45, and since then we have not had a single problem causing us to interrupt data taking. So far we have collected a billion L1 accepts, and 4.2 million events have been written to tape. The integrated luminosity this corresponds to is 3.33 inverse picobarns in 13 hours, and counting. In half a day, we have collected little less than the full bounty of data CDF acquired during its first campaign of data-taking, in 1988-89 -data which was used for dozens of breakthroughs in high-energy physics.

If the above paragraph contains information which you vaguely think would be nice to understand, but it does not make much sense to you, please read the following one, which tries to explain what I am talking about.

CDF is a multi-purpose detector for high-energy particle collisions. It detects the products of the interaction between protons and antiprotons, which are launched against each other in large numbers by the Tevatron accelerator after having been pushed to the speed of light, reaching the energy of 1 TeV each- the equivalent of more than a thousand times the proton mass.

A store begins with the injection in the Tevatron (a 6.3km long ring, located 30 miles west of Chicago) of typically ten thousand billion protons, and a few hundred billion antiprotons, in opposite directions. They circulate and intersect in the core of our detector, where at a rate of about 2.5 million times a second they produce particle collisions. Since as they collide the protons are removed from the beam, the density of the beam decreases with time in a store, such that after 10-15 hours the store is ended, and a new injection begins.

During the store, CDF collects the data by selecting the most interesting ones among the 2.5 million collisions every second. This is demanded to a three-level trigger system: Level 1 does very little very quickly, identifying the most energetic collisions and those containing electrons and muons -particles which are rare and interesting in the proton-antiproton collisions we produce. Typically Level 1 filters about ten thousand events a second, which are passed to Level 2. Since the input rate is now much lower, Level 2 has several tens of microseconds to reconstruct the particles produced in the event, and decide whether the physics is worth saving or not. The few hundred best events are then passed to Level 3, which does a much more detailed reconstruction and selects about 100 events a second for offline analysis.

"Only 100 events a second ? Why can't you collect all of them ?" you might ask. Well, it would be very demanding to build a system saving to disk a Terabyte a second (the amount of data produced before filtering). But it would also be silly, since most collisions produce physics we know inside out -low-energy interactions we have studied at lower-energy machines.

A run is not a store. A run may coincide with the duration of the store only if nothing happens which forces us to stop data-taking and fix it. Usually, this happens every hour or so, but today we got lucky and we had a very smooth running for the entire duration of the store. So, in the end, we can claim a very high collection efficiency, and a single run with lots of data. This means that all detector components worked without a glitch, without the need of intervention on the part of my crew, and we are just happy.

So in the end we collected more than three inverse picobarns of data. Picobarns are a measure of cross section: a very small area. We say that proton-antiproton collisions at 2 TeV energy (the one produced by the Tevatron beams when they collide) produce pairs of top quarks with a cross section of 6 picobarns, for instance. That means that if you collect an integrated luminosity of 3 inverse picobarns, you are likely to have captured 18 top quark events in your dataset. This would be true if your triggers were smart enough to save all of them. Triggers are never 100% efficient, but I am confident that at least 10-15 top-antitop pairs have been logged to disk during this store. Enough for a top quark discovery (if there had not been one 13 years ago) ? Well, not really, because those 15 events are buried in a large background -as stated above, we wrote 4 million events to tape tonight. Once you select the most top-like events, you reduce your backgrounds but signals get small too, and maybe two or three would make it to a "golden dataset". Still, this was definitely a good night of data taking for the CDF experiment!

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I can get people to vote one way or another, but I do have to ask why people are not paying attention, full attention to Obama's affiliations! This is scary!! Please, keep in mind that I believe that the "right" person for the job would not take the job, which leaves us with a choice of those who will take the risk that their morals or ethics will be tested to the hilt. But when I saw the following, especially after all of the terrorist attacks we've already endured (9/11 isn't the only one), I shuddered.

This is a list of least a dozen of Obama's friends from
Family Security Matters:
[emphasis mine & paraphrased]

Khalid al-Mansour: the anti-Semite Black Nationalist racist who changed his name from Don Marshall and converted to Islam, was a patron of Obama’s and helped advance Obama’s candidacy to law school. He was instrumental in starting the violent Black Panthers group, became Kind Saud’s attorney and represents OPEC.

Rashid Khalidi: an enthusiastic supporter of the Palestinians, fervent critic of Israel (which he calls a destructive “racist” state), an admirer of suicide bombers and a driving force behind the Arab American Action Network (AAAN). This so-called pro-Palestinian “community organization” in Chicago is another beneficiary of the Obama-Ayers team at the Woods Fund. It promotes an agenda that would horrify Obama’s Jewish supporters and any normal person. In fact, both Sen. Obama and Mr. Ayers actually spoke at a testimonial dinner for Rashid Khalidi.

Ingrid Mattson: President of the troubling Islamic Society of North America, a group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist trial, and a woman whom Obama invited to lead prayer at the Democrat Convention, which she did.

Frank Marshall Davis: another of Obama's mentors mentioned in his book, a well-known Stalinist Communist whose devotion to the Soviet Union and hatred for an America which he described as racist and imperialistic put him under FBI surveillance for at least 19 years.

Tony Rezko: convicted felon of fraud and shady dealings, he and Obama were very close. Rezko helped get Obama a sweetheart mortgage, and he bundled tons of money for Obama’s campaign. Rezko bought property (under another sweetheart deal) to be Obama's neighbor. As of today, it appears Rezko is willing to talk to reduce his sentence.

William Ayers: Ayers is still today (this is not an “old news” story) an unrepentant terrorist. He was quoted (coincidentally on September 11, 2001, in the New York Times) as being proud and unapologetic for the bombings of the Pentagon, the Capitol and the New York City Police where several police officers were murdered as a result. In fact, he stated that his only regret was that they hadn't done more. For a smug thug like this, Sen. Obama – unbelievably – did the favor of writing a dust-jacket blurb for Mr. Ayers' 2001 book, "Fugitive Days".

Saved from jail, unfortunately, by legal technicalities, Ayers is married to Bernardine Dohrn, another Weathermen terrorist once on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List, who did serve time for refusing to testify about the death of other Weathermen when a bomb they were building blew up prematurely. J. Edgar Hoover called her [Bernadine Dohrn] ''the most dangerous woman in America'' and ''la Pasionara of the Lunatic Left.''

Bernardine Dohrn, who in the 80’s worked at the same time with Michelle Obama for the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin, was also a fan of Charles Manson:

At a 1969 "War Council" in Flint, Michigan, Dohrn gave her most memorable and notorious speech to her followers. Holding her fingers in what became the Weatherman "fork salute," she said of the bloody murders recently committed by the Manson Family in which the pregnant actress Sharon Tate and a Folgers Coffee heiress and several other inhabitants of a Benedict Canyon mansion were brutally stabbed to death: "Dig it! First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them. They even shoved a fork into the victim's stomach! Wild!" The "War Council" ended with a formal declaration of war against "AmeriKKKa," always spelled with three K's to signify the United States' allegedly ineradicable white racism.

ACORN: An organization so fraught with voter fraud they should be closed down and indicted under RICO. Where you're never too dead to vote twice. Ever wonder what a "community organizer" is? Think ACORN. For whom was Obama a "constitutional lawyer"? ACORN. Currently, numerous ACORN offices are being raided by the FBI and investigated for ongoing and major voter fraud.

Fannie/Freddie: Obama was the number two campaign contribution recipient from Freddie and Fannie execs, behind Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd. And bear in mind, those are numbers compiled over nine years. Obama has been a senator only for four of those years and raked in almost as much dough as Dodd did in all nine years.

Franklin Raines/Jim Johnson: Former heads of Fannie Mae, both men were removed for impropriety. Both made tens of millions of dollars from their time at the helm, helping to pilot the economy onto the rocks. Are there two people more responsible for the current economic mess? Besides Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, they may have had more to do with creating the problem than anyone else... and they're in Obama's inner circle giving economic advice; Jim Johnson was actually chosen to vet Obama's VP Pick.

Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger: radical, fervently anti-American, and anti-Semitic. The Rev. Louis Farrakhan, also an anti-Semite and black racist, was recently honored by Rev. Wright for “Lifetime Achievement”. And Obama called them mentors, friends and/or spiritual advisors. What did he learn from them over the decades of their association? And why did he not reject their views until it was politically expedient for him to do so?

Michelle Obama: Mrs. Obama seems to hold radical separatist views consistent with a 20-year attendance and tutelage under Rev. Wright. Her college thesis was on assimilation vs. "the black culture,” and she was openly dismayed that so many blacks were choosing to assimilate into the American melting-pot culture. She also stated on the campaign trail that for the first time in her adult life she was proud of her country. This, from a possible First Lady of the land.

Read it all @ Family Security Matters

Even if I were a staunch Democrat, which I have been known to be, I would not be able to pull the lever for this guy! I'm scared to death that he has been molded to do dirty work of some sort. It's not that I'm paranoid that there are terrorists who have been working for years to infiltrate and destroy America, it's that there really are terrorists who have been planning to infiltrate and destroy Americans for years!

But Bradley and the polls were wrong. He lost to Republican George Deukmejian.

The theory was that polling was wrong because some voters, who did not want to appear bigoted, said they voted for Bradley even though they did not.

"People will usually tell you how they voted after the election, but we found in the Bradley campaign ... that people were actually not telling us who they voted for," said Charles Henry, who researched Bradley's election.

The Bradley effect is also called the "Wilder effect," after Douglas Wilder, Virginia's former governor. He won by just one-tenth of a percent, but as he pointed out to CNN, "people forget -- in the exit polls, I was still double-digits ahead."

According to CNN's latest poll of polls, Obama is leading McCain by 8 percentage points, 50 to 42.

Some analysts say the race could be much closer or even tied if the Bradley effect is factored in. iReport.com: iReporter pleads with voters to 'stop the racism'

"It leaves a question mark over this race, and we won't have the final answer until the votes are counted," said David Gergen, a senior political analyst for CNN.

But there could be an opposite effect, Wilder said.

"There's going to be a reverse Wilder or Bradley effect. ... There are some Republicans who are not going to say out front that they're going to be voting for Obama, but they're going to be, because the economy is what's driving people to consider what's in their best interest," he said.

Some analysts say the Bradley effect can account for 6 percentage points against an African-American candidate.

Michelle Obama told CNN's Larry King that a lot has changed since Bradley lost.

"That was several decades ago, and I think there's been growth and movement," she said. "I just believe that the issues are going to weigh in people's hearts more so as they go into the voting booths this time around."

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown said last week that he thinks the Bradley effect could cost Obama several battleground states -- and possibly the presidency.

Race "is still a problem in this country," Brown told CNN. "It goes away when there are other troubles that are more challenging, and right now, whether or not we survive in the economy is more challenging. But race could rear its ugly head. I just hope it doesn't before November 4."

In the past 15 years or so, there's been no indication in the polls that the Bradley effect has been a factor in statewide races.

Bill Schneider, CNN's senior political analyst, said that if there is racism in this year's election, it's probably already showing up in the polls. And Keating Holland, CNN's polling director, pointed out another important caveat:

"We've never had a black presidential candidate as a major nominee, so the polls don't have any history at all when it comes to national elections," he said.

Janet asked us to let people know that they can order their magazines via the Shop at the Sycamore. Either call in or phone Janet on 390 212.

Also last Saturday the Pub was featured in the Derby Evening Telegraph referring back to its winning the Best Community Pub Award in September:

Another Derbyshire pub which has stayed successful despite the trade crisis is the Sycamore Inn, in Parwich. It scooped two gongs at this year's Great British Pub Awards, for East and West Midlands Pub of the Year and Community Pub of the Year.

Janet Gosling, who has run the pub for eight years, said the business had stayed central to the village community. In March, she and her partner, Stephen Conway, opened a shop in the pub, selling vegetables, newspapers and household goods. The Sycamore also offers entertainment, including quiz nights, darts and pool.

Miss Gosling, 31, said: "When the old village shop closed people came to us to see whether we could open one in the building. I've lived in Parwich all my life and I worked at the pub part-time before I took over so I'd like to think I know what the people want."

The Sycamore Inn is the only pub in the village, apart from the British Legion, and Miss Gosling said this gave the business even greater importance.

She said: "I know that some pubs around the country are having problems but one way to help the situation can be to stay close to your community."

Its not everyday we have Presidential candidates saying we need "JOBS" to ensure that the economy moves forward. Barrack Obama was speaking in front of his supporters and he says the United States needs to look after their people at home and put food on the table. Its good in this Malaysiakini report that http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/91257 Najib has said ," "Why do I need to comment? Nothing. There is no abuse of power. It doesn't really matter."

Beh Li Yi Malaysiakini correspondent was in Parliament and she has this also in her report "The important thing is that there is no abuse of power, whatever it is, the prime minister (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) has said enough," Why should it be a major concern? The important thing that is of public concern is the (allegation of abuse of power). If you read it (the messages) very carefully, there is no abuse of power. Period."

On the controversy of the contract to procure new helicopters for the armed forces which was secured Najib says that he will soon explain in detail to the Dewan Rakyat regarding the questions learnt. This was during his tenure as defence Minister.

So the leaders have spoken and there should be Changes in the horizon. We just have to be patient and there should not be any worries with the banks as there is enough liquidity says Najib. Obama is boosted with more investments and that will mean JOBS. CHANGES OF COURSE THERE SHOULD BE...........

Violence has surged in the war-torn country with some 3,800 people -- a third of them civilians -- killed by the end of July this year, the United Nations said.

Dost Mohammad Arghestani, head of the social affairs department in Kandahar province, was killed on his way to work on Tuesday morning by two gunmen on a motorbike, Kandahar police chief Matiullah Qateh told Reuters.

Yes, that's right. As cool as I may seem in my writings, I have an inner geekdom. I play games on an Xbox 360 and last night was a beautiful evening. My wife and I actually got rid of our Wii on Sunday in exchange for multiple items.

She got:

a Nintendo DS

3 Games

I got:

Deadspace

Call of Duty: World at War

Fallout3

While this may seem insignificant it was actually very important as I have played every Call of Duty game ever to come out and loved all but one. I have forged meaningful friendships all over the globe playing in multiplayer mode with various people.

However last night I got my perk for pre-ordering Call of Duty. I got my beta token. Let me explain.

The Beta is a early release of the game allowing people to test the game and play prior to the official release. I played for nearly 3 hours last night and loved every second of it. This time spent playing truly validated my preorder of the game. So for those of you on the fence about Call of Duty World at War get it, I highly recommend it and I'm sure the people in my office will be happy I played last night simply because I'm in a better mood!!

On a side note for those of you following the (an undead poem) series, you can probably tell we are nearly at the end of the first story (five or less poems left). However don't fear because the story shall continue in some form in another new series of silly undead poems!

Have a great day,

All the Phillies have to do is win one more game and then they head to the World Series. So far my prediction of the Phillies and Rays is looking good. Last night was such a good game. One of the best things about the Phillies getting this far is that a lot of Phillies cards you don't see very often start hitting the market, which is great for Phillies collectors because now you can snag them up. I have been watching the Phillies for a long time, and this has to be the best season in awhile.

Some GOP leaders and conservative columnists are expressing frustration with John McCain's campaign. Is there chaos within the Republican Party? Rachel Maddow is joined by former Bush speech writer and author of "An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror," David Frum. However, the interview turns sour as David Frum asserts that Rachel Maddow's jokey tone is equivalent to the hateful rhetoric coming from McCain/Palin's campaign rallies. Rachel stands her ground and makes Frum visibly nervous and uncomfortable.

David Frum is saying that both sides are at fault. Instead of admitting that what we are witnessing at the GOP rallies is nothing short of people out of control, expressing violence, and racism. Frum, if he had any real character and intregity, should have admonished what Palin has stirred up these rallies - and put the culpability where it belongs, which is ultimately on McCain.

European Missile Defense: Assessing Iran’s ICBM Capabilities

This is a very personal issue for us as we were involved in discussing the threat to Europe and the need for missile defense starting around 1990....
Though we disagree with much of what the Arms Control Association says, we always find some food for thought.....

From The Arms Control Association

In 1999 and 2001, the National Intelligence Council stated that Iran could develop an ICBM capable of reaching the United States by 2015. In recent years, U.S. government agencies have affirmed those estimates, arguing that “Iran could have long-range missiles capable of reaching the U.S. and Europe before 2015” and that “proposed U.S. missile defense assets in Europe would defend the U.S. and much of Europe against long-range ballistic missile threats launched from the Middle East.”[1] Accordingly, Washington intends to build a missile defense system in Europe by around 2012.

Can Iran field an ICBM capable of striking the United States by 2012? Iran has more than a decade of experience with developing single-stage, short-range and medium-range missiles that can reach neighboring countries and Israel. It has yet to demonstrate a capability for a longer-range missile, although within a few years it may have the means to develop and deploy a 3,000-4,000-kilometer-range missile that can strike western Europe. Iran would find it difficult, though, to field a 10,000-kilometer-range ICBM that can strike the United States by 2012-2015 unless North Korea or another country successfully develops and tests such a system and transfers it to Iran. Even with such foreign assistance, it would likely take Tehran several additional years of development and testing before it could produce and deploy a modest number of such missiles.

Iran’s Missile Programs

Iran initially sought ballistic missiles during its war with Iraq, when hundreds of Iraqi missiles struck Iranian cities. Tehran’s missile program then developed in several phases. From the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, Iran purchased 300-kilometer-range Scud-B and 600-kilometer-range Scud-C missiles from North Korea, and it also indigenously assembled and built Scuds. Then Iran developed the single-stage, liquid-fuel Shahab-3 missile. This approximately 16-metric-ton missile has a range of 1,300 kilometers with a 750-kilogram payload and is derived from North Korea’s Nodong missile. The Shahab-3 was first flight-tested in July 1998 and reportedly completed its development test series after its sixth flight in July 2003.[2]

Since the turn of the century, Iran has pursued a number of other missile projects, although it has not yet flight-tested a new medium-range or long-range ballistic missile. One project involves modifications to the Shahab-3. In August 2004, Iran tested a Shahab-3 with a bulbous nose cone reportedly capable of accommodating a nuclear warhead.[3] In August 2005, Iran stated that it had increased the range of the Shahab-3 to 2,000 kilometers. Iran again tested the Shahab-3 in January 2006 and May 2006, and the January 2006 test may have involved a more advanced North Korean Nodong-B missile.....

Yesterday was a day of meetings and class projects, so I couldn't get to the latest comment by Sen. Barack Obama until today.

First, Obama continues to hold a comfortable and comanding lead in the race heading into tomorrow's final presidential debate of the campaign season - a debate John McCain must win. Polling data has been trending Obama's way for months and McCain seems to be throwing darts at the wall hoping something will stick prior to Nov. 4.

Then, this little comment from Obama comes out that could change the focus of the election for the final few weeks. While going door-to-door in Ohio to gather votes - an effective strategy by the way - Obama answered a plumber's question about his economic policy. He said,

It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you that they've got a chance for success too. My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Spreading the wealth around is nothing more than buzzwords for socialism, something McCain has been trying to suggest for months that Obama's economic plans would mean. This comment, caught on camera, would give McCain fuel for that statement. Obama's comment shows that he believes the economy must punish those who do well in order to benefit those who are struggling. I disagree.

Gone is the sense from Obama that people can work hard and achieve anything that they want in this country, a montra Obama has been trying to hit on with his own rise from a community organizer to one step away from the presidency. However, Obama seems to believe that people need the help of government in order to succeed.

Granted, there are people that for whatever reason struggle more than others in this economy and in life, and we should help those people to make sure they have the basic needs of life but I don't think its the responsibility of government. I maintain that private organizations and charities should be empowered to the do the welfare that the government should not be doing. Government's responsibility is to make the economy more conducive to economic growth by limiting the growth of spending and reducing the necessity for tax increases. Robin Hood Economics, when conducted by government, do not work and will not work to grow the economy should Obama win the election next month.
