This week has been really busy organizing things for spintria in Germany, but finally I have found time to upload the first issue of my digital magazine about architecture and design MAXIMON Magazine.

The Magazine is divided in 5 sections:

Architects: Here you will find information about five architects from arround the world with related links and information found in other sites.

Studios: This is a section where you will find selected new architecture, design, music and media-art studios. The idea is to support interesting and like minded people.

Universities: It´s all a matter of education, or not? Well... it´s up to you. A selection of 2 Universities that offer Design and Architecture related degrees.

Resources: A collection of competitions, exhibitions and links.

About: Information about Maximon and www.spintria.com

It is still a very raw version, but hope you will find interesting information and useful links.

BeadforLife eradicates extreme poverty by

BeadForLife: Eradicating Poverty one Bead at a Time

BeadforLife eradicates extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between impoverished Africans and concerned world citizens. Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads, and people who care open their hearts, homes and communities to buy and sell the beads.

The beads thus become income, food, medicine, school fees -- and hope. It is a small miracle that enriches us all.

All profits from BeadforLife are invested in community development projects that generate income and help people work their way out of poverty.

I had the good fortune to attend a BeadForLife bead party, given by a coworker who is also very active in her church. My coworker sold over $1,500 worth of jewelry, all of which goes back to the BeadForLife organization. I bought several pieces for myself.

BeadParties are held in homes, churches, schools and at a variety of other venues where you and your guests can purchase BeadforLife jewelry, including, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, as well as loose beads, music CDs and note cards. There is no cost to you and we will send you everything you need to host a fantastic and successful party including: educational materials, Ugandan recipes, biographies of the beaders, African music CD, pricing, pre-paid return label, gift tags and our inspirational DVD.

Jewelry can also be purchased directly from the BeadForLife online store. They are truly amazing, these beads and these women. Each bead is made from hand-rolled strips of magazine paper. The beaders buy used magazines at the local market for the purpose of turning into jewelry. The strips are cut into elongated triangles, are rolled up and then coated with glue (think quilling and decopage). Once they have dried, the beads are then assembled into jewelry.

BeadForLife is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.

There I was, settling down to my pre-sleep routine, when Vogueite’s post woke me up like a hun

There I was, settling down to my pre-sleep routine, when Vogueite's post woke me up like a hundred handphone alarms in the morning. It seems that Daniel Goh has left the Style: team.

Even before notifying Dottie about this bit of news, I know she'll share my sentiments... we've had countless MSN chats on the past issues of Style:. When we've exceeded our shoes budget for the month, or after I splurge on yet another It bag, I'll send her an SMS saying 'hey, I've got to cut down on expenses this month! Let's share magazines for now, until further notice...'

Once Style: comes out that month, though, all previous arrangements get dumped and we always find ourselves with a copy each, no matter how thrifty we try to be.

I love Style: for how relevant it stays to the Singapore context - no matter how luxurious the items are inside, I can see how the items will work in Singapore. I can put on a featured Hermès scarf to the wet market, or lug around a Louis Vuitton bag from the latest Style: spread in my bicycle basket while cycling along ECP... it's these images which leaves me appreciative of Style:.

While I have not had the fortune of observing the Style: team at work putting an issue together, I have no doubt that there is a touch of Daniel's fashion beliefs in the features of Style:. The way every issue's cover is Singaporean in some way, and how the entire magazine is stripped of pretenses. None of the 'I'm into fashion, I'm high and mighty!'... no, the Style: edited by Daniel is not like that at all.

That is also another reason why, when we started our Fashion Swop It! with U.S. bloggers dreamecho and LC of Fops and Dandies, we sent a copy of the magazine to them as well - to us, it's one of the anchors of local fashion.

We've waxed lyrical about Style: previously, throwing away all pretenses and being absolutely gushy about our preference. If you really like someone's work, you've got to say it, right?

My favourite piece of Daniel's writing is the one pictured above. It was the February issue, I think, it was Valentine's Day. I love how he ends the article with 'I have me, I'm good enough'.

I hope the fabulous work of the Style: team continues... no matter what, it's still my favourite local mag.

And if ever Daniel reads this insignificant blog entry, I have to say thank you, thank you, thank you for your honest writing and years of inspiration you have provided me with. I have thoroughly enjoyed every issue which you and your team worked so hard on. Style: is the only magazine I cannot say 'no' to.

Fan of Style: since Day One
Stephie

NEW MOON (started. I can hardly believe I'm reading those. Must switch to something heady, deeper...something)
Advanced Power Point Manual (People have to STOP creating long, major-boring PPTs)

This week was a whirl. Something to do, someone to share time with at every turn. I have an article due on Monday. It's in rough draft form (as above). Normally, my pulse would resume its regular beat knowing this. Yet I don't see an open window of time. Like, four hours! where I can think, cut, paste, delete, rearrange, add, tighten, etc. and create a nice piece that rattles and inspires. Tomorrow morning. Crack of dawn. Yes. Why bother, you say? Why not give up this hectic moonlighting? Ah, but I cannot. It's the thrill of being somehow involved in the writing game.

And now...

In honor of our anniversary today and because I wrote the following as an intro to an article about two months ago on "green" weddings but decided it was not appropriate though it did serve as a warm-up to get to the article intro I really wanted ... anyway, in honor of that, I am saluting HM and my kids with the following little "picture" of our wedding day. (Also because I have nothing else to write this morning yet feel compelled to offer something.)

I wore a gauzy ivory two-piece wedding ensemble purchased from the black market fashionistas in the federal building where I worked. My husband, then in the designer jeans business, was outfitted by metro colleagues in a tie-less but vested look (one I adore on him to this day). I wore daisies in my hair, but if you’re thinking hippy-dippy, no, it wasn't that. We took the Staten Island Ferry to city hall to be married by the Justice of the Peace. Guests arrived in taxis. After the ceremony through which I trembled and he sweated, we all walked up the hill to a restaurant overlooking Manhattan and sat at a huge medieval table to toast the event and celebrate with food. There were 25 of us, leaning into our food and one another, laughing and talking and it was so easy and so much fun. We were then given a company car to drive four hours east to Montauk on the tip of Long Island where we spent our week-long honeymoon at a resort suite on the beach.

It was the ‘80s. Only Greenpeace and Sierra Club were making waves about the environment which translates now as being “green.” But inadvertently, like so many hundreds and likely thousands of couples today, we had stumbled into creating a wedding day with green aspects. We used mass transit. We walked. We had a small wedding. Our wedding attire (we still have it) was used over and over for other occasions. We sent NYC pictoral postcards as invitations. We were, by "back-then" standards, non-traditinal and spontaneous ( a little too much so for my parents who then threw a big reception for us upstate on the Sacandaga). We were, by today’s standards, somewhat environmentally green.

Happy Friday!

Well, it's not so much, but we reached 400 hits in a week and a few days! Can you believe that? When I entered this morning, I was like: "Woah, look at that!" Anyway, when we'll reach 1000 hits, I'll throw the crazies party ever. xD I don't know who will come but I do hope someone will be there. I will post later if there are any news on Stardoll.

P.S. The Stardoll staff changed the magazine's appearance on the homepage. The background color was changed to shade of blue and the design is nicer.

Earlier in the week while reading my beloved Techcrunch, I noticed a Dexter ad which looked shockingly similar to my also loved Wired Magazine. Techcrunch called this out as a wrip-off of Wired and asked if this ad inspired viewers to watch Dexter. I respond with an emphatic, hell yes. Connecting the show to some of my favorite magazines is a fantastic way to imbibe Dexter with a universality and that everyone-is-talking-about-it mojo.

As I digged a bit deeper, I discovered a few more of these covers, each with its own magazine parody voice. Point. Set. Match. Showtime. I’m sold. Hell, I might even watch Californication (which follows Dexter) even though David Duchovny creeps me out. Below is a run-down of each Dexter ad along with the magazine’s actual September cover art. Pay special attention to the background text for some true copywriting talent that pulls off the fine line of wittiness meets drama seriousness. The only way they could up the ante for me would be if they actually partnered with each magazine to issue a select few special edition covers on newsstands.

From the latest URB (Janelle Monae cover) and the upcoming URB (shouts to eskay and his feature), Complex (with Cassie, Lupe & N.E.R.D.) and a few others. On the last day I was there I saw a yellow cover on a table and immediately knew what it was. I walk to the table and sure enough, Hoopz is there haha. I wanted to scan the images the other day but that would require having a scanner or a Leasing Office with a working one. And neither of those hold true. So the good folks at CC came through. Hit the jump...
