Εν θα πεθυμήσω όμως:Τους 'ηλίθιους'που του παίζουν μάγκες της ασφάλτου τζαι βουρούν όπως το Schumacher,τζαι βάλλουν σε κίνδυνο τόσο την δική τους ζωή όσο και των άλλων!Καλά ρε μαλ*κα θέλεις να πεθάνει ελεύθερα,έσχιη ανθρώπους όμως που θέλουν να ζήσουν,ντα!!!!!!

Πρέπει να ετοιμάσω μια λίστα με τζίνα που θα πάρω μαζί μου..

Riera Coming Soon

Rafa has admitted on the club's official site that Riera will be coming (although he didn't say it in those words). Rafa and we all hope that Riera will be the answer to our winging problems, but we won't know until we see him, now will we?

"We are very, very close," said Benítez {About Riera}.

"The player is coming here. Everybody knows because Espanyol have put it on their website that he is coming here for a medical. We are very, very close but he has not signed yet.

"He has experience in the Premier League and that is really important. If everything is okay we can talk about his qualities, but for now we will just say he is the option we are looking for," he beamed.

Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Riera will cost around €10m (circa £8m) plus variables, and he'll pen a four year contract at Anfield.

Anyway, back to my story of tonight.  The english guy that I work with comes in again and asks if I've seen "Snatch" yet (the one with Brad Pitt).  I told him that I watched 1/2 of it and then fell asleep.   He was disappointed and said that I NEEEED to see it...the whole thing.   So then, he starts talking "Pikey"-- which is a gypsy-like term for Brad Pitts charachter in the movie.  Basically, its an irish/english guy that speaksreallyfastlikethis.  :)   I'm not kidding, I was laughing so hard that my cheeks hurt, my stomach felt like I did 100 situps, and I could barely breathe!!!  I NEEDED THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!  

I asked him how he could speak like that-- how did he learn (this one is the NON-england guy I work with)... he said he just kept talking like that...takes practice.  They told me to act "drunk" and say "Periwinkle Blue" really fast....I tried-- I just sounded like a moron.  :)

Hoy, Vicente del Bosque ha anunciado de manera oficial, los convocados para los próximos encuentros de la selección española de fútbol.
Estos han sido los convocados:

Porteros: Casillas (Real Madrid) y Reina (Liverpool).

Delanteros: Güiza (Fenerbahçe), Torres (Liverpool) y Villa (Valencia).

La ausencia de Bojan, la caída de la lista de De La Red y Amorebieta y la vuelta de Cesc Fábregas, son los príncipales aspectos a destacar de la lista.

Aparte, Vicente del Bosque se encargó de cerrar aún más, la polémica en torno a si Raúl debe volver o no a la selección. ''Llevamos a los mejores, que son los que están aquí'', sentenció Del Bosque.

Para del Bosque, estos serán sus dos primeros partidos oficiales con la selección, los que el combinado nacional disputará el próximo 6 de septiembre ante Bosnia en Murcia y el 10 contra Armenia en Albacete.

Well it seems a far cry from when the American owners first took over and we were greeted with claims of 'a spade in the ground within 60 days' and 'Rafa can sign Snoogy Doogy if he wants'.

The reality is the owners can not afford to build the stadium and the statement of increasing the stadium to 73,000 is pure PR spin as are we expected to believe that at the moment they cant afford a 60,000 stadium but shortly we will build a 73,000 one.

Im still trying to think of the positives of David Moores actually selling the club to Gillett and Hicks because at the moment the only difference between been owned by David Moores and Gillett/Hicks is we now have £30 million a year interest payments to find on our new debt kindly given to us by the current owners.

You do have to think just what exactly was Mr Moores thinking of when the American approached him telling him of their grand plans for the club. Did he not think a bit of a background check on the two might be worth while as a quick google for Tom Hicks will give you all kind of information regards his past concerning Corinthians and the Texas Rangers.

The rumours are that Gillett and Hicks were asked to put around £200 million of guarantees to secure the loan for the new stadium which is something they were not prepared to do, or should that read unable to do.

So what does the future hold now for Liverpool (sure I've read something about that before) now that the stadium as been shelved.

Well obviously it means that the owners can forget about the millions they were going to make from extra fans spending their cash on tickets and merchandise so where do they get their extra capital from. Well i think its safe to say the transfer fund is going to take one hell of a beating.

The extra TV money and cash from the Premier League should about cover the interest payments but you then have the general running costs of the club plus any transfer fund so like i put the thing most likely to thing to get affected is the transfer fund.

Another potential way of getting a dividend is by the owners getting a loan secured on the club which they will then pay themselves with. Rumoured to have been done in the past by one of the owners so i would not put it past them again.

Obviously all this talk of problems of the owners in financial difficulty is going to make the name Sheikh Maktoum and DIC get dragged back into the media spotlight and there is no doubting the Sheikh wants to own Liverpool but he is a very smart businessman and when he made a generous offer previous the current owners which was refused he knew to bide his time and the chance would appear again.

The time is close and i fully expect in the next few weeks for there to be renewed interest coming from Dubai but it wont be under the guise of DIC but the Sheikh himself will be much more hands on.

So we now have to think would we be better owned by one of the richest men in the world with a track record of building some of the most outstanding leisure complexes in the world or two owners who have a rumoured track record of asset stripping and bankruptcy.

Once again i find myself reflecting on a game this season where we have lucky to get the win and if not for the heroics of Pepe Reina in goal we could have been humiliated over the course of two legs but as it turned out we qualified and now have trips to Marseille, PSV and Athletcio Madrid to look forward to and especially the trip to Madrid will be an emotional game for both Torres and Luis Garcia as both players making an appearance against their former employees.

Going back to the game on Wednesday and in all fairness i could just copy what i have typed in the previous match reports below and that is we were far too narrow and easy to defend against due to everything coming through the centre.

Even Andy Townsend could see this and i couldn't believe i was actually listening to him talking sense. A surreal experience indeed.

The goal scored by Dirk Kuyt was via a superb cross by Ryan Babel and probably the best cross we have seen during the few games we have played this season and that one moment of magic won us the game and around £12 million pound for qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

Standard Liege came with a game plan to get in the faces of the Liverpool team and even their manager had a go at Rafa who must have felt like chinning him before then making a sarcastic comment to Sammy Lee regards a Liverpool player diving but little Sammy gave it back before finding his seat on the bench again.

Again because of the poor performance I'm not going to dwell on the match but suffice to say the positives have to be the performance of Reina who was flawless all game and also the performance of El Zhar once again who provided the much needed width on the right.

Quite a few people say that Keane coming off is resulting in us scoring the late goals but its not that its the fact that Rafa is putting on a player who will at least attack the full back down the touchline and get a cross in.

Aston Villa at the weekend and their new boy James Milner will no doubt want to make an impression although i would imagine he will not be the only player in a Aston Villa shirt who will havhe a point to prove on Sunday.

El Barça viajaba a Polonia con la clasificación hecha y a mi parecer se tomaron el partido como un entrenamiento con público. Me parece raro que parte de la prensa española quisiera sacar muchas conclusiones de mal juego en el equipo catalán, pero yo creo que sino jugaron mejor es porque ya tenían los deberes hechos en la ida. El gol polaco lo marcó Cleber.

Resumen del partido

El partido de la polémica en esta ronda fue el Liverpool contra el S. Lieja, ya que se anuló un gol al final que podría haber cambiado el pase para el equipo del Benelux. La verdad que el equipo de Benítez ha sufrido más de lo lindo para superar a los belgas y esta irregularidad es algo que siempre ha caracterizado a los de Anfield tras coger el timón el español. El gol que dio el pase fue de Kuyt.

Siguiendo con los ingleses el Arsenal, al contrario que el Liverpool, no tuvo ningún problema contra el Twente al que goleó por cuatro goles a cero. Abrió la cuenta Nasri, que se ha acoplado muy rápido al sistema de Wenger, Gallas, Walcott y Bendtner.

Entre los equipos italianos, la Juve viajaba a Eslovaquía con una buena goleada y como el Barça se dejo llevar en el partido de vuelta. Al final empate a un gol, Fodrek para los eslovacos (golazo) y Amauri para los italianos.

El segundo equipo italiano era la Fiorentina, que también partía con buena renta para la vuelta y se dejo un empate sin goles frente al Slavia de Praga.

Veo que seguimos siendo dos muy a mi pesar. Bueno, pues habrá que adornar esto que lo veo muy pobre.

Hoy a empezado el "viaje a Liverpool", así que mientras unos se disponen a viajar otros se quedan en casa. El viernes a empezado tranquilo, sin novedad en el frente, hoy solo quiero descansar. No se si voy a estar completamente sola este finde porque no se si estará el Irlandés. Lo descubriré más tarde. He dado un paseo por la casa y me he dado cuenta de que convivo con más arañas de las que pensaba, una en la habitación, otras dos en las escaleras, un par más en la entrada, y alguna que otra en la cocina y en el salón, eso sin contar la gigantesca que hay en la terraza cubierta...esa si que es gorda y me da miedo...(estoy segura de que yo a ella también porque se esconde cuando salgo). Hoy he visto como se alimenta la araña de mi habitación, es curioso...  Desde luego le tengo más aprecio que a la que está en el cuarto de Mr Porky (me gusta casi tanto como él). La he visto al entrar en busca de un mechero para encender una vela (mi día de relax, recordais??).  Creo que así va a pasar el día de hoy, ordenador, tele (hoy hay triple sesión de friends), descanso, además el día me acompaña...  Mr Porky and company estarán llegando a Liverpool, se lavarán los huevillos e intentarán cazar algo esta noche. Para eso han preferido alquilar un apartamento...para llevar titis... o eso es lo que se creen. Son muy listos estos "hombres", 4 tios en dos habitaciones...mmm...y si pillan??? Una servirá de picadero para el campeón y los demás se apiñarán en la otra?? Y si pilla más de uno??? Uy...creo que me estoy poniendo más imaginativa y optimista que ellos. No se que pasará ,pero si vuelven diciendo que Liverpool es una mierda y que no les gustó nada, todos sabremos cual es la razón tal y como pasó en Manchester, que según he oido es una mierda. jajajajjaja.

Creo que queda claro el motivo por el que no estoy en Liverpool ¿no?  jejeje

En fin, voy a seguir con mi día de autocontemplación.

Cristiano Ronaldo fue nombrado ayer mejor jugador de la pasada Champions League. Parecía evidente. Cuán lejos quedaría la mala leche de Robinho si el de Madeira militara en las filas blancas... Pero al final no pudo ser; el luso hizo el amago, echó el capote y tristemente se retractó. El culebrón del verano tocó fin y Pedja y Calderón se quedarón compuestos y sin boda. Y encima lo de Robinho sin resolver todavía y con un final incierto en el horizonte.

Las negativas de Cristiano, Cazorla y Villa (amén de Kaká y Cesc en ediciones anteriores) no son sino el resultado de una dirección deportiva bicéfala. Un club señor como el Real Madrid no puede hacer el ridículo de este modo. Antes se daban tortas los Zidane, Ronaldo y compañía por vestir la camisola de Di Stéfano.

Y luego vino lo del sorteo de la Champions, donde al Madrid le tocaron dos Miuras a pesar de ser cabeza de serie: la histórica Juventus de Turín (Casillas se volverá a ver las caras con Buffon tras su enfrentamiento en la Euro) y el Zenit de Arshavin, actual campeón de la UEFA. Más leña al fuego; dos equipos que en dos malas noches te dejan tercero de grupo y con dos palmos de narices. Sólo el bielorruso BATE Borisov dará algún que otro respiro a los de Schuster.

Pero la bomba sentimental le cayó al Atleti: el Liverpool de Fernando Torres, quien volverá al Calderón. El diablillo del sorteo anduvo cabroncete ayer. ¿Celebrará Torres un eventual gol a los colchoneros? Inviable. Además, los de Aguirre se las verán con el PSV holandés y el Olimpique de Marsella francés. Parece un grupo difícil, pero viniendo del último bombo, el de las cenicientas, los colchoneros pueden estar contentos. Además, los de Aguirre pueden jugar de tú a tú a equipos como el PSV y el Olimpique.

Al Villarreal, entretanto, le tocó otro 'coco': el Manchester United, con quien ya tuvo que lidiar en la Champions 05-06. Para contrarrestar al campeón de Europa y a su profeta Cristiano, el submarino se enfrentará a dos rivales de escasa alcurnia como el Celtic escocés, equipo rocoso pero de poco fútbol, y el flojo Aalborg danés, que se estrena en la Champions.

Sin duda, al menos a priori, el grupo más fácil de los españoles es el del Barça. Sporting de Lisboa, Basilea suizo y Shakhtar ucraniano no deberían suponer ningún problema para Guardiola y su cuadrilla, quienes deberían pasar, sí o sí, como primeros de grupo. Pero en fútbol nunca se sabe. La competición se iniciará el martes 16 de septiembre, con un Barcelona-Sporting y un PSV-Atlético. Al día siguiente, Madrid-Borisov y el Villarreal, contra el United en Old Trafford.

Rafa Admits Gerrard May Not Play Against Manchester United

According to a renowned specialist, Gerrard was supposed to be out for a minimum of three weeks, maximum being six weeks, but Rafa does not care, insisting that even though Gerrard may miss the Man U match on september 13th, he will be fully fit for the start of the Champions League group stages (Marseille on September 16th...just three days later)

"He may not be fit for the Manchester United game, but he certainly will be okay for the first group stage match next month."

Let's hope he's right.

Sorteo de Grupos

Con los 32 equipos definidos, representando 17 naciones de Europa, se pudo realizar el sorteo que mencioné anteriormente, que consiste en ubicar aleatoriamente los 32 equipos en grupos, quedando de esta manera 8 grupos, con 4 equipos cada uno. Aclaro que en éste sorteo no pueden ser ubicados equipos del mismo país. Los equipos del mismo país sólo se pueden enfrentar a partir de la fase de 4tos de final del torneo (8 mejores).  Como expliqué anteriormente estos equipos son ubicados al azar y son colocados en 4 "Pots" (bombos en español). En el primero de estos aparecen los 8 equipos que serán cabezas de serie (los primeros en ser sorteados), quedando cada uno en un grupo en particular que serán nombrados desde la letra A hasta la H. La letra de los grupos son sacadas de otros 8 bombos, todo este procedimiento se realiza al azar, excepto cuando ya se conoce el último grupo de cada bombo y cuando los equipos no pueden quedar emparejados en el mismo grupo por ser de una misma nación, como expliqué anteriormente.

Antes de realizar un breve análisis de los grupos, quisiera resaltar al gran ausente de este año: el AC Milán. Este equipo venía de coronarse campeón en las ediciones del 2003 y 2007, llegó a la final en la edición del 2005 y a semifinales en la edición del 2006. Lamentablemente, sólo pudo obtener el 5to puesto en su torneo doméstico y se clasificó directamente para la Copa de la Uefa. Con su ausencia no podremos ver la participación de sus grandes estrellas como: Kaká, Seedorf, Pirlo, Pato y Gattuso, además del recién adquirido Ronaldihno y la vuelta al equipo de uno de sus mejores jugadores en los últimos años, el ucraniano: Andriy Shevchenko. Sin embargo, vuelve a la escena de la élite futbolística europea, la Juventus de Turín (gran ausente de la dos últimas ediciones) y auguró en dicho equipo, una participación destacada.

Análisis de los Grupos

• Grupo A: Está más que claro que el Chelsea es el favorito para coronarse líder de éste grupo al final los encuentros disputados. Sin embargo, la Roma viene jugando muy bien en los últimos meses y tiene el plus de que la final de éste año, será disputada en su estadio. Considero que el Girondis es un buen equipo pero no está al nivel de los anteriores. Del Cluj no hay mucho que decir, es un debutante en dicha competición y no se espera mucho de él. Pronóstico: Chelsea y Roma pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo B: El Inter puede tener la tranquilidad de que está ubicado en un grupo bastante accesible. Werder Bremen, Anothorsis y Panathinaikos no están al nivel del campeón italiano. De acuerdo a lo se ha podido apreciar en los últimos años, el Werder Bremen es el único equipo del grupo que puede dar pelea en la punta. Pronóstico: Inter y Werder Bremen pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo C: El Barcelona no tiene ninguna excusa justificable para no alzarse con el primer lugar del grupo de manera fácil. Sus rivales no están al nivel del equipo español y a pesar de que no es el gran Barcelona de años anteriores, estoy seguro de que no tendrá problemas en pasar. Pronóstico: Barcelona y Sporting pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo D: En cada sorteo siempre nos encontramos con un grupo que aglutina a grandes equipos. Este tipo de grupo popularmente se conoce: "Grupo de la Muerte". Este grupo ostenta ese calificativo y además es el más interesante de los ocho. Además cuenta con el aditivo de los partidos entre Liverpool y Atlético Madrid, donde Fernando Torres (Liverpool) se enfrentará a su antiguo equipo (11 años consecutivos sin participar en la UCL) , del que fue su capitán y gran estrella en los últimos años. Marseille y PSV son equipos muy buenos que pueden sorprender en algún partido. Pronóstico: Liverpool y Atlético pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo E: La vuelta del Villarreal a la competición y la participación del Manchester son lo más destacad de éste grupo del que no hay mucho que comentar. Manchester y Villareal son claramente superiores y a lo mejor sólo el Celtic, pueda ser un rival interesante. Pronóstico: Machester y Villarreal pasaron a 8vos de final.

• Grupo F: El Bayern, ausente de la última edición, regresa a la competición con un gran equipo conformado principalmente por: Ribéry, Podoslki, Klose y Toni, prometiendo una participación destacada y gran fútbol. El Olympique viene realizando muy buenas actuaciones en las últimas ediciones y la Fiorentina cuenta a su favor con la inclusión de Alberto Gilardino, en su plantel. Pronóstico: El Bayern y el Olympique pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo G: Arsenal y Porto son los favoritos para pasar a la siguiente ronda. Sin embargo, el Dynamo es un equipo fuerte y el Fenebarhçe a sumado algunas incorporaciones, en especial la del técnico Luis Arágones, quien ganase la Euro de este año como Seleccionador Nacional de España. Pronóstico: Arsenal y Porto pasarán a 8vos de final.

• Grupo H: Un grupo dificil que presenta cuatro equipos totalmente diferentes. El Madrid ha sido Campeón Europeo 9 veces, Juventus sólo lo ha podido conseguir en dos ocaciones. El Zenit jugará por primera vez la UCL pero viene de ganar la Copa de la Uefa. Por último el Bate es un equipo del que no se conoce mucho, aunque casi siempre resultan ser equipos que por momentos te pueden sorprender en un partido. Pronóstico: Real Madrid y Juventus pasarán a 8vos de final.

Premios de la UEFA

La UEFA realiza este sorteo cada año en el Forum Grimaldi del Principado francés de Mónaco. Al mismo tiempo se realiza también, la premiación del mejor portero, defensor, mediocampista y delantero del torneo pasado y culmina con la elección del Mejor Jugador del Torneo (esta elección no tiene nada que ver con las ligas domésticas u otras competiciones). Los entrenadores de los 32 equipos de la edición pasada del torneo, son los responsables de elegir a cada ganador. Los ganadores son invitados a participar en el sorteo, tomando al azar los equipos que se encuentran en los bombos, mientras un invitado especial realiza la misma acción con los grupos. Este año el invitado fue el ex-jugador italiano de la Roma, Bruno Conti.

Los ganadores de los premios de este año han sido los siguientes:

• Mejor Portero: Petr Cech (Chelsea)
• Mejor Defensor: John Terry (Chelsea)
• Mejor Mediocampista: Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
• Mejor Delantero y Mejor Jugador: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

Como pueden apreciar, es notable la supremacía de los equipos ingleses en la premiación de este año. Recordemos que, Chelsea y Manchester United disputaron la final de la edición anterior, en mayo de este año en la ciudad de Moscú, resultando como ganador como todo sabemos éste último. En mi opinión creo que la elección fue justa, en especial la de Ronaldo como mejor jugador, aunque considero que en los últimos meses está algo arrogante, estoy seguro que sin él el Manchester no hubiera podido lograr el título. De hecho, el Manchester tendrá muy dificil el partido de hoy contra el Zenit por la Supercopa de Europa, donde se enfrentán los campeones de la UEFA Champions League y la Copa de la UEFA, respectivamente. El equipo inglés da la impresión de ser superior, sin embargo, en los dos primeros partidos disputados en su liga doméstica no se le ha visto nada bien.

Otras Actividades

El fútbol no fue el único protagonista de la noche. Michel Platini, presidente de la UEFA, entregó a Zinedine Zidane, uno de los mejores jugadores que ha tenido el fútbol moderno y del que también soy gran admirador, un cheque por la suma de 1,000,000 de francos suizos para Asociación Europea de Leucodistrofia (ELA), presidida por Guy Alba, y de la que el mismo Zidane es embajador. Durante el evento, presentaron un video que me conmovió mucho y es bueno ver que el fútbol expande sus horizontes a los seres más necesitados de nuestro planeta.

Por último sólo queda disfrutar de esta gran competición que iniciará a mediados de septiembre. Espero que sea una gran edición como la del año pasado, que sin lugar a todos nos mantuvo a todos al tanto de lo que sucedía e hizo vibrar nuestros corazones con la gran final. ¡Viva el Fútbol!

Tras la gran exhibición desplegada por el Atlético de Madrid anoche ante el Schalke 04, y la memorable actuación del 'Kun' Agüero, los rojiblancos han pasado de ser 'el pupas' y de llevar once años sin clasificarse para la máxima competición europea, a ser favoritos para pasar la primera fase.

Prudencia por favor. El Atlético ha quedado encuadrado en el Grupo D, junto a Liverpool, Olympique de Marsella y PSV Eindhoven. Más allá de todo el 'morbo' de la vuelta de Torres al Calderón, el grupo es muy complicado.

El principal favorito es el 'Spanish Liverpool' de Benítez, Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa, Reina y por supuesto, Torres. En España les conocemos muy bien, y sabemos que juegan 'bastante mal' pero tienen una enorme pegada y la Champions es su competición preferida. Además, llevan dos victorias en dos partidos en la liga inglesa, y se han hecho con el irlandés Robbie Keane, que en cuanto se adapte al esquema de Benítez, dará un gran rendimiento.

De los otros dos rivales, ninguno es una 'perita en dulce'. Los franceses acaban de perder a Cissé vendido al Sunderland inglés, pero han fichado al joven delantero del Le Mans Samassa, que dicen que es uno de los mayores goleadores del fútbol galo, para suplirle. A pesar de haber perdido a Nasri, que se ha marchado al Arsenal, cuentan con Valbuena en el mediocampo (ahora lesionado), Niang en la delantera y el talentoso Ben Arfa en la media punta, llegado del Lyon y calificado como una de las mayores esperanzas francesas para el futuro.

El PSV por su parte, es un equipo aseado, que lleva dominando la Eredivisie holandesa varios años seguidos, y uno de los culpables de la travesía por el desierto del Ajax de Amsterdam. Tradicionalmente ha sido un equipo de grandes delanteros (Van Nistelrooy, Romario, Ronaldo) y lo sigue siendo, porque aunque Lazovic y Koevermans no lleguen a la calidad de los anteriores, se hinchan a marcar goles. Además han fichado al joven Amrabat y el internacional holandés Afellay llevará la manija del centro de campo.

El Barcelona ha sido el más afortunado de los cuatro equipos españoles. Se enfrentará con el Sporting de Lisboa, el Basilea suizo y el campeón ucraniano, el Shaktar Donetsk en el Grupo C.

A los portugueses les vimos el miércoles en el Trofeo Bernabéu. Los de Paulo Bento tienen un portero interesante, Rui Patricio; pero una defensa muy débil, a pesar de la incorporación de Caneira. En el medio del campo tienen a dos 'superclase', Miguel Veloso como pivote defensivo y Joao Moutinho en la creación. Pero carecen de efectividad de cara al gol a pesar de la llegada de Postiga y de que Yannick Djaló sea considerado una estrella emergente del fútbol luso. A mi parecer, era el rival más sencillo, siempre a priori, del segundo bombo.

El tercer equipo en discordia es el Shaktar Donetsk. Los ucranianos siempre se gastan una millonada en fichajes y tienen a una legión de brasileños atraídos por los petrodólares de la ciudad minera de Ucrania. Me gusta mucho el lateral Ilsinho, olímpico con brasil y futurible jugador de un grande europeo. Fernandinho y Willian ponen la fantasía y el gol va a ser cosa de Marcelo Moreno Martins (del que Ariel Judas es un gran fan) si al final se acaba marchando Nery Castillo. Otros jugadores interesantes son el lateral izquierdo rumano Rat y el joven internacional ucraniano Chygrynskiy que si sigue con su progresión actual, jugará en una liga más competitiva en muy poco tiempo.

Por último está el Basilea, equipo simpático pero blandito, que llegó muy lejos en Europa hace cinco o seis años. Gracias a los hermanos Yakin y a los delanteros argentinos Giménez y Rossi eliminaron al Celtic en la previa, se clasificaron por delante del Liverpool en el grupo y se las hicieron pasar canutas a Deportivo y Manchester United en la segunda fase eliminatoria.

Sin embargo el presente es distinto. Aunque es campeón de la liga suiza, en su plantilla sólo destacan el portero argentino Costanzo (que iba para estrella y se quedó en el camino), y los enormes delanteros Streller y Derdiyok, ambos internacionales con Suiza. Derdiyok tiene trazas de buen futbolista. Sólo tiene 20 años e intervino en los tres partidos que su selección disputó en la pasada Eurocopa.

El Villarreal ha caído en el Grupo E junto a Manchester United, Celtic de Glasgow y Aalborg. Los 'Red Devils' no han hecho ningún fichaje de relumbrón, pero son el vigente campeón de Europa y de la Premier League. Han retenido a Ronaldo a pesar del culebrón con el Real Madrid, y tienen la plantilla más amplia y con más alternativas de todo el continente. Tévez, Rooney, Giggs, Carrick, Scholes, Vidic o Ferdinand son sólo algunas de sus estrellas.

Los de Pellegrini, a priori se van a tener que jugar las habichuelas con los escoceses del Celtic de Glasgow. Su fútbol directo y físico será muy peligroso en Celtic Park, pero fuera de casa bajan muchos enteros su rendimiento.

Este año han perdido al defensa Sno, que se ha marchado al Ajax y al grandioso Gravesen, que ha rescindido su contrato, pero a cambio ha llegado el 'hijo pródigo' Shaun Maloney, procedente del Aston Villa que pondrá calidad al medio campo de los verdiblancos y el griego Samaras del Manchester City. Del Barcelona ha llegado Marc Crosas para dar equilibrio a la medular. Venegoor of Hesselink es un rematador muy eficaz y el japonés Nakamura seguirá llevando peligro a balón parado, pero el jugador más decisivo sigue siendo Aiden McGeady. El mediocampista irlandés es una joya, tiene un enorme talento, velocidad y destreza con ambas piernas. Lo prentenden equipos ingleses y desde España le han llegado cantos de sirena de Sevilla y Espanyol.

Del Aalborg sólo conozco al polaco Saganowski y creo que sólo le he visto jugar un par de veces. Así que si no podéis dormir porque os falta información vital sobre este equipo danés, lo siento, pero preguntadle a gente que cobre por escribir estas cosas que para eso es su trabajo.

Por último el Madrid. Raro es que le haya tocado un grupo difícil a los blancos y sobre todo, es raro que no vayan a jugar contra el Oporto, el Rosenborg o el Olympiakos. Los de Schuster jugarán el mismo día que el Villarreal, y han quedado emparejados en el Grupo H con la Juventus, el Zenit de San Petersburgo y el 'exótico' BATE bielorruso.

Tras dos años de ausencia en la máxima competición por el escándalo Moggigate, la Juve ha fichado bien este año. Aunque como a todo equipo de Ranieri, le falta fútbol en el medio del campo, pero lo suple con una ingente cantidad de fuerza física. Poulsen, Sissoko, Marischio, Cristiano Zanetti, Camoranesi... buenos jugadores pero demasiado planos. De lo poco distinto que tiene son Tiago (condenado al ostracismo por el míster) y Giovinco (grandioso el talento de este chaval). Atrás han incorporado a Mellberg, sólido central ex del Racing de Santander que ha crecido enormemente en el Aston Villa. Salihamidzic ha llegado del Bayern y Amauri será el hombre-gol. Además, Del Piero y Nedved viven una segunda juventud y Trezeguet y Iaquinta siempre cumplen. Muy peligrosos los italianos.

El otro equipo que peleará con los blancos, es el vigente campeón de la UEFA. El Zenit ruso. Si logran retener a Arshavin formarán un equipo enormemente peligroso, con el bloque que maravilló en Europa el pasado año (Pogrebnyak, Zyryanov, Anyukov...) más el central francés Puygrenier y el portugués Danny. Un mediapunta de enorme talento por el que han pagado 30 millones de euros y que en principio venía a sustituir a Arshavin. Además, el Petrovskiy Stadium fue un fortín la pasada campaña, y el helado clima hará que los rusos sean muy difíciles de batir cuando jueguen como locales, pero el ser debutantes en la competición podría pasarles factura.

Sólo nos queda el BATE. Los bielorrusos me han caído bien y creo que van a ser 'mi equipo' en esta Champions. No sé nada de ellos, sólo que la mayoría de sus jugadores son bielorrusos, que le ganaron al Anderlecht en la sengunda ronda clasificatoria, al Levski de Sofía en la última ronda previa y que en Bielorrusia fueron recibidos como héroes. A ver si tienen suerte.

less than 24 hours after a formidable showing against Liverpool, reports out of Belgium say the Liege phone is ringing off the hook.  Apparently, and soccer365 talks about this too, clubs in France, Spain, and England are inquiring about the availability of Oguchi "The Boss" Onyewu.

The interest is strong, and teams are now asking about the price.  According to Lyle Yorks, the most negotiations have occured with a club in La Liga (I would guess Espanyol, which had been linked earlier with a move for Gooch).  Says Lyle Yorks:

We've been talking with a La Liga club for 10 days... It's a big club. I can say that. After last night's game, we had discussions with a Premier League club and one of the top teams in France.

So we shall see. Will Gooch be going anywhere this window?  Can you guess what Premiership team is after him?

Now onto the most important thing that happened today, the champions league group stage draw in Monaco. The main focus was on Manchester United who came out of the first pot into group E, drawn against them were Villarreal C.F., Celtic FC and Aalborg BK.

Pretty good draw, as David Gill commented it should be a pretty easy group to qualify out of having avoided some of the larger teams that for some reason were placed in low pots like Athletico Madrid for example who drew into Liverpool's group. I would expect to win all the home games, with only the away tie at Celtic Park being particularly tricky. Don't get me wrong all the teams in the group are good, you can't be bad to have qualified its simply in the name of the competition, however as the current holders not progressing would be very shocking.

I felt a bit sorry for CFR Cluj who the Sky Sports commentators seemed to be shocked by, even though they had beaten Steaua Bucuresti to become champions of the Romanian league. Sure it will be a new adventure for the team but surely one they are looking forward to as both champions and the beneficary of playing Chelsea home and away, which will bring a large increase in revenue their way.

Next to discuss my two favourite teams, Manchester City and Liverpool. The former having to win on penalties to get through to the UEFA cup and Liverpool needing a very late and also fortunate goal from Dirk Kuyt. Having looked possible to both be on their way out of Europe before it really started I was a bit gutted for both to make it through but hopefully the lack of skill will show in the next round and they will save us all having to watch them miserably perform on ITV.
