This has to be the heaviest week since the week before E3. There will be about 30 movies released on Blu-Ray. Luckily, it is not 30 movies no one would want either. You have titles such as Rudy and Cool Hand Luke for people that love classics. (I thought Rudy was a good movie. Loved Cool Hand Luke). Superman Returns makes another appearance. This time he is coming with HD audio. (Warner, please release all Blu-Ray movies with HD Audio). The usual weekly concert releases are available as well. Last, but not least is Kill Bill. You can buy them together, buy Vol 1 or buy Vol 2. Get both of them. Getting just one is foolish.

You have 30 movies to choose from. Here are some links that will allow you to think what Blu-Ray.com has said about the upcoming releases. Oh yea, there is no excuse to not buy anything this week. I don't want to hear it. (The list below is not the full list of releases for the week).

Hey dok/mev/juf/madam/mrs

So. anyway lets get to the core of this conversation

Guilty

I feel guilty 'cause you at the least tried/attempted to understand me

Ek voel kak...of hoe

There's a movie called.......yeah I am crying whilst typing so excuse me for the poor incoherent bulshit I am trying to relate....Ok so die movie is

Regret or retirement...

Which one....

Retirement...not for me...

What I would add though is remorse...which nobody wants to accept...

I feel like an infidel

Ok...so..in Rehab a year ago they taught us :

1. I feel.... sad

2. 'Cause I failed you

3............N

Ja so ek is weer mal en steeds verlate.

This was one of the most difficult remix CD's to ever get my friggin hands on! I do love dropping this for people. The twisted nerve mixes will get stuck in your head for days! Ironside jumpoff gets so hot, it makes for a touch of movement in the nether lands. The Volume 2 that came out; I could never get a grasp of, I think that was when I was "in between computers". I missed out on quite a bit of hot items...

For those of you fellow Harry Potter fanatics, here are a few interesting HP finds that I have recen

For those of you fellow Harry Potter fanatics, here are a few interesting HP finds that I have recently stumbled upon. I am sure you are just as excited for the upcoming movie as I am! For those of you who think that being the director of a Harry Potter movie is just as consistent of being the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, rest assured. Since Christopher Columbus directed the first two movies, a different person has directed each of the preceding movies. Until now. David Yates, the director of Order of the Phoenix, has signed on to the do the remaining movies. I am very excited for this. I think he did an excellent job with Order of the Phoenix, and has the right vision and amount of darkness for the remaining pieces of the story. Another exciting piece of news is that they have decided to break The Deathly Hallows into two parts, à la Kill Bill. There are multiple reasons for the splitting of Hallows, and it seems to be a win-win situation for everyone. First of all, the books have gotten progressively longer. The first book, the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone only had 223 pages. The Deathly Hallows has 776 (and the Order of the Phoenix had a whopping 870!) As readers acknowledge and despise, subplots from the books have been cut-out to make room for the important parts of the plot in the movies. With Deathly Hallows being the final instalment of the 7-part story, there are no such things are sub-plots. Every detail ends up tying into some resolution as the story is completed. To keep everything in, a single movie would have been over 4 hours long. And while kids are one of the target audiences (even though the stories have gotten so dark, I wouldn't let my kids see them if I was a parent since I had nightmares while reading them and I'm in my mid-twenties!), having a movie longer than two and a half hours would be impossible for children, and some adults to sit through. Therefore, Warner Brothers decided to split the Deathly Hallows into Part I and Part II to do the final Harry Potter story its full justice. Fans will be excited to get two movies without important things left out instead of one, Warner Brothers will make bank on the two movies (the first five brought in upward of 4.5billion dollars in box office ticket sales alone) , and all the people involved in creating them will have double the paycheck. And while sources say the reason behind the two-part plan is artistic rather that financial, I'll leave it to you to decide. Either way, I'm not complaining. The Half-Blood Prince was set to hit theaters on November 21st of this year. However, the date has recently been been pushed back to July 19, 2009 despite the film being completed. A Warner Brother executive says the date push is "to guarantee the studio a major summer blockbuster in 2009". Also, I bet the success of summer WB films Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) and The Dark Knight (2008) also influenced the decision. Honestly though, when would a Harry Potter film NOT be a blockbuster? Everyone and their mom will be there no matter when it comes out. I apologize for being the bearer of bad news, but now we have to wait an extra 8 months. Anyway, I will try to cheer things up with a little preview or just a refresher -- the official plot line (that Warner Brothers released) of Half-Blood Prince:

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! And then there's Hermione, simmering with jealousy but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

The Half-Blood Prince looks amazing from the brief trailer that has been released. I am all twitterpated in anticipation. As I already mentioned, David Yates will return to direct the film. Also, the much missed Quiddich makes a beloved return. And of course, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), Rupert Grint (Ron) and the rest of gang is back again.

According to an article on msn today: Mike Myers in Inglorious Bastards

Mike Myers has been cast in Queintin Tarantino's upcoming remake titled, "Inglorious Bastards," the long awaited film from Tarantino without "Grindhouse" in its title.

It's good to hear Tarantino is finally moving forward on his long-awaited project, and by long-awaited I mean patiently forgotten until recently when news started to appear again related to the project. Most of us have been waiting since Kill Bill vol. 2 for a decent Tarantino film ("Death Proof," though semi-cool in the theater, did not cut it for someone who dislikes overlong, unedited scenes of straight dialogue). Oh, and btw, we're also still waiting for "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair."

What's the deal Queintin? We've been waiting for your sixth masterpiece (or are we on seven by now?), and your sojourn into Grindhouse and Sin City was, for most of us, a waste of apparent talent. You made Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill; why limit yourself to niche films? Have you run out of juice? Finally realized that your films were a fad of the '90s and won't be successful on this new, cgi pampered, audience of the 21st century?

Just make your film Queintin, and don't try to make it like some film of yesteryear. Do it your way. Gratuitous violence, twice as many f-bombs as needed, Samuel L. Jackson cameo and/or supporting role, and lots of twists and turns. Make us care about your work again, and for darns sake get on that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. Seriously.

(to those expecting something funny)

sorry. i saw news. i posted news. it's late. i studied 5 hours for law school tonight. perhaps my partner will wit it up.

There was a man.

A simple man.

He rode in this town on a big 'ol steed.

There was this man.

I say this man.

And he looked out and saw a town in need.

Where is this man?

This simple man.

The man sent here to do his simple deed

—anonymous

The lone stranger. The strong, silent type. The man with no name. The anti-hero.

These are the characters I want to watch in films or read about in books. They can be men or women. They can be of any race or religion. The only requirement is to be a badass. They range all over from Clint Eastwood in the Dollars trilogy, to Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. Korean films like Old Boy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, British Films like Point Blank (well, British director at least), and even Kurosawa films like Yojimbo.

The protagonists in these films have something over characters (see: normal characters) in other films. These characters are always cooler. They are, in fact, the coolest. And the reason for their coolness is their apparent apathy—their lack of a normal conscience. They are slightly morally corrupt. Just a little bit off-kilter. They could kick the normal hero from some other movie's ass, or if that hero starts beating them to a bloody pulp, they'll look up into his eyes, cough out a splatter of blood on the floor in front of him, and smile. They're tough.

These are the characters I love. The ones with no moral compass. The ones who are real assholes, but you love them anyway. And when you watch them or read about them, you get to live that life for just a little bit. For the length of that movie or book, you're them, and you're a badass. For that little slice of your life, you're that guy or girl that no one wants to get in the way of. All you have to do is give a look and people watch out.

The best of these characters (Walker in Point Blank or the Samurai in Yojimbo) never falter in their badass-itude. They go through hell and back, but they're attitude does not change. Their character goes against any conventional wisdom of storytelling. Characters are always supposed to change, whether for better or for worse, but these ones don't. Characters are supposed to learn and grow. These ones do not. The man with no name is exactly the same at the end of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly as he was in the beginning, just richer. These characters defy terms like "character development." The only thing that develops is whether or not they achieve their goal. Walker looking for his ninety-three thousand dollars, the Samurai subverting the rival gangs, the bride out to kill Bill, Tyler Durden trying to bring the world back to zero ... it's all about what they want and how they're going to get it.

It's storytelling brought down to the simplest degree. It's the stripped down language of James M. Cain, or the hard boiled criminals in a Jim Thompson book. It's about having fun and letting loose.

It's about examining the corrupt world around these characters. Because we always like the anti-hero, and there's a reason. They maybe amoral, but they're never as corrupt as the people around them. They're surviving in a corrupt world, not by hiding or by making due or by trying to change it, but by making it work for them. They know the world is shit, but they don't care. They know the angles and they'll get what they want. And maybe this is why we like them so much. Because we see the corrupt world around us too, only we wish we could turn the world around on itself, make it work for us.

But it's also just fun to be a badass.

All this recent hoopla in my head over the convergence of film and gaming, my two most beloved thing

All this recent hoopla in my head over the convergence of film and gaming, my two most beloved things, has led me to draw up a few ideal casting choices for some upcoming games-to-movies, namely BioShock and Metal Gear Solid, which has the added benefit of being 90% movie anyway.

Bioshock:

Protagonist Jack: You want someone who's fairly young, and capable of a dark, tragic heroism of a sort. With that language most people would jump to the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, but I'm going for Nathan Fillion, far less of a name and a face, except to Whedonite zealots. The hammer is his penis.

Andrew Ryan: Daniel Day Lewis. No second choices, at all. The alpha-objectivist whose empire has crumbled around the very structures he built it on, the gravitas of the Milkshake will be needed for his climactic moment.

Atlas: James MacAvoy, this rising star has all the right characteristics. Right accent, right attitude.

Frank Fontaine: Jack Nicholson. No one can do arrogant sleaze better. He could just read everything in his normal voice and it would be pitch-perfect. Alternatively Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Dr. Tenenbaum: Sarah Polley. She's best known for her work as the female protagonist of 2004's Dawn of the Dead remake, but is a fierce actress and talent in her own right.

Dr. Suchong: None other than Sulu himself, George Takei. Right age, right look, just enough villainous potential.

Sander Cohen: Robin Williams, no second choice. The man can act serious when you give him a chance, but can anyone think of a better option for a manic psychotic artist?

Dr. Steinman: John Noble. Look at his performance as Denethor in Return of the King. That sort of psychotic behavior could be very easily and very artfully translated to this plastic-surgeon gone batshit.

Now how about a Metal Gear Solid movie? Laden with its didactic style of Japanese storytelling, you'll need a good editor and screenwriter before anything else, really. But what about those characters? I've got some ideas here, too.

Solid Snake/Solidus/Big Boss: Viggo Mortensen. In various stages of makeup he can play all of them, and play the hell out of all of them. He is quite possibly one of the five greatest living actors, in my opinion.

Liquid Snake: I'm going to go back to James MacAvoy for this one, too. A younger, more vital, slightly deranged character, I think he'd excel as Liquid.

Otacon: I'd cast outside of appearance on this one, cast to character and not to looks, that said, I'd go with Philip Seymour Hoffman. Another one of my favorites, he could very easily play a nerdy, closeted homosexual atomic scientist.

Raiden: Jake Gyllenhaal. Young, unsure of himself, naive, I think he's played all these characteristics already.

Revolver Ocelot: David Carradine, yes, Bill. He's got just the right quality for Ocelot.

Naomi Hunter: Nicole Kidman. She can do ice queen, she can do everything the character needs to do.

Meryl Silverburgh: Say it with me now: Evangeline Lilly. KATE. She can kick ass, she can play vulnerable, she can play sneaky, slippery, sultry. Don't even change her hair color, the red anime-hair is ridiculous, give her a cut and put her to work. Give her a bigger part than she has in the games, and ratchet up the tension with Snake.

Sure there are other characters in both games (especially the bloated Metal Gear saga) but for film translations, I'd take it down a bit. There would of course be other supporting characters, but those are your core. Bioshock I think lends itself to a more direct translation, oddly enough, as Metal Gear Solid's story needs some heavy pruning. I'd probably combine elements of 1, 2, and 4.

Konstigt folk!)

[caption id="attachment_189" align="alignnone" width="333" caption="片腕マシンガール Kataude mashin gāru (The Machine Girl)"][/caption]

I recently watched a DVD copy of THE MACHINE GIRL and after 97 minutes of wanton brutality, decapitation, out-of-this-world weapons and typical nice-girl-gets-wronged-and-seeks-revenge theme reminiscent of KILL BILL, I have to pass judgment one way or another.

But before I do that, first things first. The Machine Girl is about a pretty orphan schoolgirl named Ami whose little brother was killed by a bunch of high school thugs led by a scion of a wealthy Ninja-Yakuza family. She tries to avenge his death by hunting down those responsible.

The movie opens with Ami, in classic japanese serafuku uniform accosting a group of high school bullies who were picking on a boy. It turns out that this was the same group that bullied her brother to death. While the cheesy opening credits flashed with classic B-Movie flair, the bullies fell one after the other as Ami unloaded rounds upon rounds of bullets upon them. What follows is a series of flashbacks showing how his brother died and how her quest for revenge went wrong, leading to her capture and the dismemberment of her left arm in the hands of the cruel ninja-yakuza family. For some reason, however, she managed to escape and meet willing partners in revenge who also gave her an outsized machinegun glove tailor-made for her left arm which was cut just below the elbow. She resumes her quest and loses more friends and gains more enemies in the process. Several decapitations, copious amounts of spurting blood a la Kill Bill, a chainsaw, a flying guillotine and a drill bra later, she stands bloody and torn yet victorious - and still wearing her cute sailor moon uniform to boot.

The story is a bit of a cliche and the effects have "FAKE" written all over them. The movie does not make an effort to hide its surreal, anime influence with the characters behaving in a cartoony manner as silly enemy rituals and formations reminiscent of Bioman and Maskman abound. A lot of gory things bordered on the goofy as well especially when Ami's hand was turned into a giant tempura by one of the bullies' parents. This coming from a movie that is classified as Action/Horror. A good anime upbringing and a healthy dose of Fangoria or love for Clive Barker novels would definitely help one appreciate this movie even more.

The movie was released direct to video in the US but was shown in theaters last August 2 in Japan according to Wikipedia. I doubt it's going to be screened elsewhere with the sheer amount of bodies cut in half, heads a-flying, and general splatter and gore presented every few minutes or so. For little pervs and schoolgirl fetishists out there however, there's precious little to expect as cute Ami did not give a lot of upskirts here. Shaider's sidekick Annie will give her a run for her knickers everytime.

For all its shortcomings and gory cheesiness, I'd be a lying bastard if I didn't say I enjoyed this movie. Kawaii!
