Por circunstancias este verano me está tocando más de lo necesario utilizar esta herramienta, y la verdad es que me está sorprendiendo. Como todos sabéis llevo algo menos de dos años siendo maquero, y he tenido la oportunidad de probar iChat tanto en Tiger como en Leopard, las diferencias, aunque en apariencia no son muchas, sí son notables. La primera en cuanto a configuración, bien es cierto que no era muy difícil, siempre y cuando tuvieras unos mínimos conocimientos de informática/routers, pero ya tenías que buscar que puertos abrir y demás, en la versión para Leopard no es necesario tocar nada, no tengo claro si porque realmente han conseguido evitarlo o porque el soporte UPnP de Leopard está mejorado, pero como dijo el tito Steve en la presentación de iChat, no recuerdo en que año

Videconference for the rest of us

Estos días de uso he podido comprobar que resulta bastante fiable, hemos llegado a tener la conferencia activa en torno a 4 horas, y mi único enemigo era el "magnífico" router Airport, que parece que no le gustan mucho las transmisiones ininterrumpidas de datos en largos periodos de tiempo :S La calidad de audio y vídeo eran bastante buenas, teniendo en cuenta que mi conexión es de 4000/512 kbps, o por lo menos lo que a mi me llegaba, no he tenido quejas por la otra parte ;) Eso sí, no creo que haga falta decirlo, pero es conveniente apagar el programa de torrent o similar mientras estáis videconferenciando, cuanto más ancho de banda tengamos para iChat, mucho mejor.

Por otro lado, una de las mejoras del nuevo iChat ha sido la inclusión de efectos, que decir, la verdad es que la mayoría son bastante chorras, para hacer el payaso vamos, pero para situaciones como la mía no vienen nada mal, te echas unas risas y además gratis, en una conferencia seria no valen para nada, pero para el "rest of us" vienen bastante bien.

La verdad es que no he probado más sistemas de videoconferencia y, de hecho, esta es la primera vez que le doy uso a iChat, más allá de los clásicos 5 minutos de prueba con el compañero de curro, y tengo que decir que no echo de menos otro programa (a ti sí :P ), ni servicios como Skype, otro motivo más para pasarse a Mac ;)

Okay, just a random update in regards to this dear blog of mine. Thanks to those who have commented/voted/visited etc... We're averaging about 100 hits a day (not including my own hits :p). But, more interestingly, lately there have been a lot of hits registered from people's email inboxes (as you can see from the image below). I don't know what is going on, but I'm getting all these hits from YahooMail, Gmail, AT&T, AOL, Hotmail, Comcast email address inboxes. I'm guessing that it might potentially be the result of an email that's spreading or ads that are appearing randomly - only thing is that I haven't signed up or registered for any advertising publicity :s If anyone could shed light, please do. Oh, and the "Elmo is a Black Man" post seems to have attracted the most hits out of any post on this blog, even surpassing the popularity of my Apple iPhone 3G posts! Yesterday it registered about 150 hits on its own!

Three:

The third thing that I would like to mention here is an issue I have had with my MSN :( You might remember I did a massive MSN into Gmail conversion recently to enable me to use my iChat program for all my chatting needs. I came across a slight glitch a couple of days ago when I noticed that although I had logged out of iChat and shut down the computer, I was still appearing as 'online' to my MSN and Gmail contacts. So expectedly, when I logged back in, I was inundated with a whole heap of chats from people thinking that I was online at the time they initiated conversation. So to the 10-15 people who I "ignored" over the past few days, my sincerest apologies. I wasn't actually online at the time and my MSN client, iChat, lied to all of you. Don't worry, I hear the WYD priests have massive confessional tents set up in Sydney this week - I'll be sure to send iChat there to be cleansed from its transgression. Lame joke, yeah.... forgive me.

Four:

This post was originally going to just be about Three Things, but this fourth thing was inspired by a young red P-plate (provisional) female motorist who stopped behind me at a red light this afternoon. The car was fairly old school, but appeared to be running alright despite its age. The lonesome driver, a girl whose large "bug-eyes" sunglasses covered three quarters of her head, had her iPod earphones fitted snuggly into both ears as she bopped along to what I assumed to be pretty normal music. Look, during the course of my observation she even sang along to what she was listening to. There's no shame in that. We all do it once in a while, especially while alone. I admit, I have even engaged in the occassional out loud conversation with myself. lol

Well, I thought nothing of it.. until..... the girl looked straight up into her rear view mirror and with such conviction and passion gave a bloody good rendition of the Gene Simmons "KISS" tongue manouvre as exhibited above. She wiggled it around and everything. I almost died of laughter. Almost.

mencoba menggunakan video chat, lancar jaya, selama 11 menit. karena setelahnya terputus. video dan suara hampir dipastikan ngga ada jeda. mirip mirip ama voip di kantor dah. pake telepon juga ngga ada beda. suara jernih dan jelas. well khusus untuk video memang ngga begtu jelas streaminnya, masih kotak kotak ndak jelas gitu. tetapi bisa ngeliat juli aja dah seru. (sekarang rambutya dah agak gondrong...he he he he). superb! mungkin juga koneksi internet ditempat gua lagi bagus. padahal status lagi dunlut bokep, dengerin streaming dari itunes juga. hhhmmmhhh...

sementara menurut penilaian gua skype 0 dan 1 untuk iChat karena bisa lancar jaya dan berjalan hampir bisa dikatakan sempurna antara data suara dan video. dari kabel model dan broadband modem perth. jadi kepengen test untuk conference call... nge-racunin sapa yah buat beli mac? he he he he

I usually record a vocal track in GarageBand then pass it via idisk to Didier.  He thinks about it for awhile.

Long ago I learned that it was kind of a waste of time for me to come up with cords because he always hears something much more amazing then the 12 cords I know ;-)

We'll work with it on ichat, but the problem is the sound only goes one way. So, while I'm singing I have to watch his hands for the cord change, stop for a sec and listen, then sing again.  We use the Zoom H2 recorder to pick up his guitar parts so that when we say "hey that was a cool bit", we can remember what we just did!

Then he messes around with the cords, sometime morphing the melody...sometimes too far.  With one song I  had to say "Woa, I've had this song in my head for two years. This is the melody I want."  But that doesn't happen too often. Usually his tweakage is really interesting.

Anyway, back and forth...pausing...clipping...tweaking...lyric rewrites...guitar solos and then finally one day "hey, you know I really like this song."

And there you have it.  We're looking at January to have the full length CD done with all the new songs.

PS... Speaking of high-tech, Aunt Kari & Uncle Chad started up a blog of their own which is great since they are far far away in England. It's nice to hear about what they're up to. Check out their site on the blogroll to the right.

UNFORTUNATELY HOWEVER, the first time I loaded iChat, I was bombarded with "Request Authorization" prompts that filled my screen....One hour and 500 "newly added" contacts later, I had managed to import MSN contacts into iChat (which doesn't usually support MSN formats). But there was still one more catch - some contacts couldn't be "authorized" so I've had to do it manually by adding them all into my Address Book and then deleting/adding them again. Absolute nightmare! And what makes all of this worse is that I am pedantic about giving all my contacts Nicknames so that I know who they are. So yeah, I've still got AGES until I'm done :(

EDIT: Ooooo... I've just noticed that when not logged into iChat, and logged into Gmail chat instead, all my MSN Messenger contacts appear in the Gmail window! Woot!

I'm talking about this guy, America's favorite yellow icon...aside from the golden arches.

Since I returned to mac in 2006 and began using ichat, I honestly hadn't given this guy much thought. Time went by, I started using gchat and it was splitsville for me and America's favorite running man...until yesterday.

I was poking around on the source of all, twitter, and learned about this from Todd Defren. On the site, I was greeted by videos like the one below and this message:

"You have known him since middle school. He gave you the confidence to ask out your first significant other, and he also helped you guys break up. You two played pranks and shared great memories. But now, you two aren't speaking much and he's feeling a little lonely. Maybe you're scared and don't want to share your feelings yet, but Running Man is ready and wants to hear it. So go ahead, tell him. Let him know how you really feel.

He'll appreciate it in the morning."

One word for this campaign: Genius!

That is the only word I can use to describe a campaign that helps a group reconnect with their childhood. The only thing that anyone seems to really agree on when it comes to Gen Y is that we grew up with this great technology. For us, connecting with our childhood also involves connecting us with the technology that's unique to our time. If you have any doubts, mention Duck Hunt or Mega Man to someone my age and you'll see what I mean.

Back to AIM though, genius campaign. I know I had a few memorable moments occur via AIM. If the spirit moves you, visit the running man and tell him how you feel!

bölüm 1

e-posta: mobile me vermiş olduğu 20 gb online disk alanının istediğiniz kadarını @mac.com uzantılı e-posta adresine ayırabilmenizi sağlıyor. gmail ise sadece an itibariyle 6-6,5 gblık bir alan veriyor. kanımca 6 veya 20 gb arasında çok da fark yok. asla 6 gb’ın ya da 20 gb’ın doldurulabileceğine inanmadığımdan diskalanını anahtar bir özellik olarak görmüyorum. e-posta’da önemli olan sunucuların uptime olma zamanı, güvenlik ve spam filtresinin kalitesi. apple’ın sitesinde yıllardır film fragmanlarını düzenli ve sorunsuz yayınlaması, dünyanın en çok indirilen programlardan olan itunesve quicktime programlarını tıkır tıkır host etmesi, virüs konusunda güvenli mac os kullanan sunucularının olması ve 3 yılllık deneyimimle söyleyebilirim ki spam mail filtreleme konusundaki başarısı göz dolduruyor. gmail’in en büyük kozu “beleş” olması. havadan 6 gb e-posta hesabınız oluyor. bunun yanında sunucular konusunda da oldukça başarılı zira koskoca google video’yu host eden bir şirketin mahsulü. spam filtresi konusunda çok bilgim yok ama tecrübem çabuk şişen spam posta kutusunun bazen rahatsız olabileceğini söylüyor. her ne kadar apple'ı host konusunda yere göğe sığdıramıyorum gibi bir imaj çizsem de aslında .mac döneminde zaman zaman e-postalarıma ulaşamadığımı ama bunun yanında gmail'de şimdiye kadar hiçbir sorun yaşamadığımı eklemek isterim.

bölüm 3

takvim: mobile me mac os’un gelişmiş ical takvim programıyla senkronize çalışıyor. daha önce .mac* döneminde takvimleriniz webde yayınlamadıysanız (ki bu seçenek takviminizi adresini bilen herkese açık yapıyordu.) sadece macintosh’unuzdan ulaşılabilir halde kalıyordu. bu durum google calendar gibi online, tarayıcı ara yüzlü web 2.0 uygulamalarına mahkum bırakıyordu. mobile me bu eksiklik kapatmış ve ical takvimlerinize herangi bir tarayıcı ara yüzünden, tarayıcı yüklü herhangi bir işletim sisteminden bağlanıp macintoshunuzun başındaymışcasına rahatlıkla yönetmenizi sağlar hale getirmiş. google calendar ise aynı şeyi çıktığı günden bu yana yapıyor. hemi de bedavaya. google calendar'ın bu anlamda en büyük eksiği kol kola girebileceği bir masaüstü uygulamasının olmamasıydı fakat son zamanlarda mozilla sunbird ile google calendar yolları bu bağlamda kesişmeye başladı. fakat şu an için sunbird'ün eklentisiz, ek program kurmadan google calendar ile senkronizasyonu yapılamıyor. hala pratiklik açısından ical ve mobile me birlikteliği “`rocks!” ama yakındasunbirdya da başka bir takvim yazılımıgoogle calendarile “native” uyumu sağlar.google calendar`'ın bir artısından da bahsetmek istiyorum. ücretsiz olarak takvim girdilerine sms ile hatırlatma ekleyebiliyorsunuz. tabi ki bu hizmet de beleş. bu hizmet benim çok sık kullandığım bir servis. google calendar native masaüstü entergrasyonundan kaybettiği puanı sms hatırlatmalırıyla geri kazanıyor.

anında mesajlaşma: ichat apple’ın anında mesajlaşma platformu. msn, gtalk, yahoo messenger, aol messenger gibi akranları piyasada mevcut. ichat’in akranları arasında öne çıkan özelliği; sade, işlevsel arayüz tasarımı ve gelişmiş görüntülü sohbet özelliği. ichat ile (sanırım 6 kişiye kadar) görüntülü web konferanslar yapabiliyorsunuz. gtalk’ta sesli sohbet var fakat web kamerasını desteklemiyor. ama sesli sohbetin kalitesinin diğer yazılımlara nazaran daha iyi olduğu söyleniyor. ben daha önce denemediğimden fikir beyan edemiyorum. gtalk ücretsiz. aslında ichat de ücretsiz. zira apple 60 günlük deneme .mac hesabı açmanıza izin veriyor. yalnız bu deneme hesabını açmak için eskiden mutlaka kayıt işlemini bir macintosh üzerinden yapmanızı şart koşuyordu. bu deneme hesabının özelliği kısıtlı özelliklere erişim sağlaması. e-posta, ichat, sık kullanılanların yedeklenmesi gibi özellikler dışındakiler ücret ödeyerek ediniliyor(du). mobile me ‘de de benzer bir uygulama olur mu henüz bilmiyorum. 1 temmuz’dan sonra göreceğiz. bu hesabın bir özelliği de para ödemeseniz bile hesap bilgileri asla silinmiyor. yani crazyboy_21m_ank@mac.com adresini aldınız ama sonradan ücret ödemediniz ya da hesabınızın yıllık yenilemesini yapmadınız; ichat hesabınız kapanmıyor, yıllar sonra da para bastırsanız kaldığı yerden tüm özellikleriyle hesabınızı kullanmaya devam ediyorsunuz. bu yüzden bir bakıma ichat de ücretsiz sayılabilir. yalnız; sadece mac os’da çalışan bir program olması yaygın kullanımını ve listenize ekleyecek arkadaş bulmanızı engelliyor. bu açıdan apple’ın ichat’i “sucks!” denebilir. gtalk da yaygınlık konusunda msn live messenger’in ayakları altında ezildiğinden fikrimin ince gülünce ichat kadar “sucks!” denebilir. insanlar msn space, windows live messenger, hotmail gibi alternatiflere daha çok rabet ediyorlar. bu “round”’u ne mobile me ne de google labs kazanabiliyor. msn anında mesajlaşma platformunun büyük kısmını işgal ederek ipi göğüslüyor.

bölüm 5

adres defteri: mac os’daki addressbook programı gmail ya da gtalk’un iletişim listesinden daha kullanışlı, sade ve gelişmiş bir yazılım olmasına rağmen .mac’i ilk kullanmaya başladığım günden beri bir kişiyi bile kaydetmediğim bir yazılım. bunun nedeni; online olarak iletişim listeme ulaşamayacak ve başka herhangi bir program ya da cihazla (cep telefonu, pda vb.) bu listeyi senkronize edemeyecek olmamdı. şimdi apple mobile me ile bu yazılımı web 2.0 uygulamasına yaraşır bir formatta adam etmeyi akıl etti. bu adam ediş çabasında iphone’un da payı büyük. adres defteri gsm şebekesi ile web 2.0 arasındaki köprüyü oluşturuyor. eğer iphone gibi adres defteri uygulamasını kullanmayı “gerektirecek” bir platform olmasaydı adres defterinin internetten yönetilebiliyor olması zorunluluğu doğmayacaktı. google cephesine gelince adres defterinin gmail ve gtalk içine gömülmesi ve bir masaüstü uygulamasıyla entegrasyonunun olmayışı açıkçası beni tatmin etmiyor. mobile me’nin ne kadar kullanışlı olacağını zaman gösterecek.

sık kullanılanlar: sık kullanılanların sınıflandırılması, yedeklenmesi .mac üzerinden safari ile yapılabiliyor. mobileme sitesinde epey bir araştırma yapmama rağmen online olarak sık kullanılanların yönetilmesi (ulaşım, düzenleme vb.) konusunda apple bilgi vermemiş. sadece safari üzerinden pc ve mac’lerde sık kullanılanların senkronize edilebileceğinden bahsedilmiş. google bookmarks mobileme’nin bu konudaki alternatifi. google toolbar ile beraber mükemmel bir ikili olabiliyorlar. bu sayede cross platform çeşitli tarayıcılarda google bookmarks’a erişebiliyorsunuz ve online olarak bağlantılarınızı yönetebiliyorsunuz. bu açılardan mobileme’ye fark atmasına rağmen safari kullanma alışkanlığım olması mobilemenin bu özelliğine göz kırpmamı sağlayabilirdi fakat firefox sağolsun foxmarks bu konuda imdadıma yetişti diyebilirim. foxmarks bir firefox eklentisi. foxmarks.com sitesinden ücretsiz edinebileceğiniz bir hesapla hem google hem de apple’ın verdiği hizmetten daha iyisini ücretsiz alabiliyorsunuz. foxmarks birden çok bilgisayarı destekliyor, kullanımı kolay, ücretsiz. ayrıca doğrudan istediğiniz tarayıcıyla bağlantılara ulaşabiliyorsunuz. google bookmarks hakkında bir şey eklemek isterim; google bağlantılara etiket eklemenizi sağlayarak daha derli toplu bir arşivi amaçlıyor ama benim gibi etiketleme özürlü obsesif kişiler için bu özellik her tarafın etiketlerle dolu olduğu darmadağın bir arşivle sonuçlanabilir. etiketleme ne mobile me'de ne de foxmarks'da var. bence olmasına da gerek yok.

bölüm 7

internet sitesi ve internet galerileri: apple ezelden beri .mac hesabı için reklamsız websitesi hostingi veriyordu. fakat bu hosting statik sayfalar için geçerliydi. yani server taraflı içerik oluşturulamıyordu. bence apple’ın en büyük ayıplarından biri dinamik web teknolojilerinin yükseldiği şu dönemde ağ üzerinde sebil ücretsiz php, asp vb. host siteleri varken, kullanıcılarını katı ve hantal html tenkonolojisine mahkum etmesi. bu mahkus kaderi ilife 2008 paketiyle beraber piyasaya sürdüğü iweb ile de telafi etmeye çalıştı ama nafile. web sitesi yapmayı; hiçbirşey bilmeyen kullanıcılar için kolaylaştırmaya çalışıyım derken bence eline yüzüne bulaştırdı. kullanıcı bilgisayarı taraflı tasarımı inat edip server taraflıya çeviremedi. iweb’in şablonları apple’ın zihinleri açan, adeta ilham perilerini davet eden düsturdaki çizgisine yakışmayan değişmezlik ve yavanlıkta. mobilme de çok parlak bir gelecek vaad etmiyor. yine php yok, yine veritabanı yok ortada. host açısından yüz güldüren tek şey: flickr kalitesine ve mantalitesine yaklaşan galeri hizmeti. 20 gb alan verilmesi, fantastik ara yüzlerde galerilerin bir tıkla hazırlanması bir an kendisi de ücretli olan flickr’ı terk etmek konusunda düşündürse de galerilere kimlerin erişim sağlayacağı konusunda kararların çok esnek olmaması bir yıl daha flickr hesabımızı uzattırmamıza sebep oluyor. google’a gelince gönüllerin robin hood vari şirketi google picasa hizmetiyle ücretsiz fotoğraf hostunda hatrısayılır bir yer ediniyor. ben kısa süre kulllanmama rağmen ücretsiz bir hizmetten beklediğim herşeyi karşıladığını düşünüyorum.google'ın web sitesi hostu konusunda apple'ı ezim ezim ezdiği gerçeğini yadsıyamayız, picasa ile image hosting, blogger ile blog hosting, google page creator ile de bağımsız web sayfaları hazırlanması konusunda, google docs ile ofis dökümanlarının saklanması, yayınlanması ve online olarak düzenlenmesi konusunda, dahası google reader ile online rss saklanmasını sağlamasıyla apple'ın kafaya balyoz gibi iniyor google.hem de ücretsiz bir balyoz. tek eksiği apple'ın idisk'ine benzer online dosya paylaşımı ve backup hizmeti vermemesi. onun da yakında olacağına dair haberler var. kaldı ki biraz uğraşarak google drive ile gmail'i bu iş için kullanabiliyorsunuz.

google'dan bunca beleş balyozu uzun süredir yemesine rağmen nasıl oluyor da titreyip kendine gelmiyor şaşırtıcı bir durum.

.macle ilgili olarak merak ettiğim konulari özetleyecek olursam;

(1) neden php, mysql host vermiyor?,

(2) neden wordpress, drupal vb. bir dinamik içerik yönetimi özelliğini işletim sistemine entegre etmiyor da iweb denen abuk programı kullanmakta ısrar ediyor? bana paşa paşa versin php hostumu, mysql veritabanımı ben adam gibi wordpress'imi kurayım. neden sadece sıradan kullanıcıyı düşünüyor apple?

(3) idisk uygulamasını neden bu kadar hantal ve kullanışsız yapıyor (zira idiskle dinamik, etkileşimli online dosya senkronizasyonu yapmak imkansız, 10 kb dosyayı 15 dakikada upload edebilirseniz şanslı sayılırsınız)

(4) neden online ofis hizmeti vermiyor? (ki elinde addressbook, ical gibi nefis uygulamalar mevcut bunlar bir online word processor ile birleşince ormanda 10 google docs gücünde olabilirler ve harikalar yaratabilirler.)

neyse yazının sonuna doğru sinirlerim tepeme fırladı kusura bakmayın. umarım mobileme ne işe yarıyor biraz olsun anlatabilmişimdir. bu öninceleme 1 temmuz 2008'den sonra inceleme halinde tekrar klavyeye yatırılacaktır.

I'm currently obsessed with screen captures that I don't have to edit out what I don't want, and iChat and stuff. 

I'm pretty sure Alyssa and I are the meanest people alive. But seriously folks, friends, people of all physical abilities, fellow coffee drinkers, slurping is rude.

Logitech has announced its latest flagship cam that is Mac only :D. The QuickCam Vision Pro is USB 2.0, works with Skype and iChat, sports a 2.0 megapixel lens and a Carl Zeiss lens. It can also record VGA video at 30 fps.

I already have an iSight in my MacBook but I'd like to have another camera for webcasting. :D

These will hit shelves in July for $130. I'll have to wait on this one since I'm getting another important product in July.

Somehow, profoundly reassuring words from my dear friend, Lauren Braun, who is in the Philippines right now.  The Body of Christ at work.

So some people are still thinking that the iPhone will get a iChat app on the App Store in early july with its realese. Well that would be cool, but i really dont see it coming to the iPhone, it COULD very well happen but i just dont see how it would work, theres no fron camera either, well that we know of. But still even if there was a front camera you would have to hold it up so the person video chatting would see you AND what happens when you hit a service area that isnt so good? Does it close the program? Or just lag really bad? Either way bring on the iChat for the iPhone!!

The main thing I am looking forward to on 11 July isn't the 3G iPhone. Although the speed would be nice. What I want are the apps. And that's coming to all the iPhones. Even to those of us who waited in line opening day for the first ones. So I had to come up with a list of apps that I want for my iPhone.

1. Evernote http://www.evernote.com
Notetaking service. Although you can photograph written text and search that too. It already has a desktop client for both Mac & Windows as well as a web interface. They already have an iPhone interface for viewing so that leads me to think an app could be an actuality. The desktop clients can be opened while you are offline and will resync when you go back online. This would be handy when you're out of service on the iPhone.

2. iChat App
I know that AIM has been developed, but I'd like to see a multiservice like iChat or Adium for the iPhone.

3. Bento
I would love to add or modify items in my database while on the go. It may be the least likely to be available, but I would still like to have it.

I imagine that Facebook has been faced with an interesting marketing dilemma with the introduction of Facebook Chat. How do they market it? How do they sway the minds of already dedicated AIM, iChat, Skype, Google Chat, Meebo, MSN, etc. users to make the switch.

Another challenge with this is convincing users to stay on the site for long periods of time. In my experience there has been sort of a stigma with this, being "caught" on Facebook all day. Not in the sense of being caught slacking off in the work place, but by being seen on the site by your peers multiple times throughout the day. Almost like the obsessive photo updater who constantly clogs your Newsfeed, and you ask yourself, "doesn't he have anything better to do?" But in that sense, has Facebook become a guilty pleasure for some?

I recently had this issue with my iChat, it was driving me kind of crazy. After a few hours of looking around the internet I finally found the answer. First off I tried a suggestion to reset my SMC, this did not work. What DID work was opening my Finder going to username(your username)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iChat.plst, and hitting DELETE. I then restarted iChat and was able to initiate video conferencing.

Thats write (pun intended) I am writing this on someone elses computer, even though I am 500 miles away. Macs are the greatest invention on the face of the bloody planet, right below that is duct tape, and Costco.

Interesting day today at work. I can't say that I enjoyed it. For one thing, too many damn people. Who comes to the apple store on a friday, honestly. The only good thing was me having a promoter on the promoter board (who the hell is Rick and why was i patient with him?) and me getting called out on my 100% Apple Care yesterday. Apart from that, it was hella busy (I used hella because the NorCal air is getting to me) and I had a lot of work to do in the Back of House.

Favorite Band Number 8

The Grateful Dead

I am a newly-born deadhead (pun intended), so I can't rate them as number 1, but they are still an awesome band. When I first heard them, it was actually at an orthodontist appointment, and I was not too sure about what I was listening to, but as I heard more and more of them, I came to realize that they are one hell of a band. They mix just about every genre of music in their early years (up until PigPen died in 1973 they had a lot of blues) from psycadellic rock to country rock, which isn't as bad as it sounds. 

They embark on long winded jams, my favorite of which is about 50 minutes. It goes through 3 songs Playing in the Band > Uncle Johns Band > Morning Dew > Uncle Johns Band > Playing in the Band. They all seem to work together to form one giant instrument and I can really appreciate how they all work together. The reason that they aren't number 1, is because of the 200+ selection I have from them, only a handful have excellent vocals.
