Today has been our day off. We've done some sorting out at home and been to the tip, we've done some shopping, gardening and putting flat-pack furniture together - namely a breakfast table and two chairs. But can you translate this into English?

We bought the final additions to our fish tank today, two goldfish. Please watch the video with a commentary by Marta. This evening we'll relax and maybe watch a TV programme or a movie. Up early in the morning for the Japanese F1 Grand Prix, well me anyway! I'm hoping for a cooked breakfast when Marta gets up!

Wieder einmal ist es die alte Tante Zufall, die einem die besten Platten in die Hände spielt, Platten, die man eigentlich nie angehört, geschweige denn gekauft hätte, so zum normalen Vollpreis. Vielleicht, weil man sie einfach immer überblättert, vielleicht, weil der lokale Händler sie nie in den Laden kriegt, vielleicht, weil sie optisch etwas anderes nahelegen, als dann drin ist, und man sich für sein Vorurteil nicht weiter interessiert. So eine Platte ist das Debut der Pyramids, das mir beim Überblättern im Plattenladen eher nach moderner Worldmusik aussah, so linksradikales spanisches Zeug oder ähnliches, und das ich deswegen nie näher anschaute (obwohl ich das Cover eigentlich ziemlich schön fand). Das muß, gottseidank, allen anderen auch so gegangen sein, denn irgendwann stand besagtes Album plötzlich bei den 2nd-Hand-Platten gegenüber, noch nagelneu und in bestem Zustand. Und wie mich das so angeguckt hat, glänzend, noch ohne Falten, Knicke oder Kratzer, für nur drei Euro, da nahm ich sie doch mal in die Hand und las auf dem Backcover erstaunt "Domino".

Domino Records ist grundsätzlich ein gutes Label, das Will Oldham in Europa erhältlich gemacht hat oder Smog, und das in letzter Zeit durch Bestseller wie Franz Ferdinand, Sons And Daughters oder die Arctic Monkeys aufgefallen ist. Daneben finden sich dort z.B. die Television Personalities, Clinic, der wunderbare James Yorkston oder das Reissue der tollen, tollen Young Marble Giants, und auch Archie Bronson Outfit, derer zwei von dreien die Pyramids bilden. Grob kann ich mein Verhältnis zu Domino so ausdrücken: Nicht alles gefällt mir dort, aber etwas wirklich schlechtes haben sie auch noch nicht veröffentlicht, alles ist qualitativ sehr gute Musik.

Also doch reingehört in die Pyramids, gestaunt und gekauft. The Pyramids vereinen eigentlich alles, was mir momentan an elektrischer Gitarrenmusik gefällt: repetitiver Lärm, eine gewisse Härte, Primitivismus und Monotonie, und der Groove der guten alten 60s-Garagenpunks wie The Sonics oder The Monks, zeitgemäß in die Gegenwart gerettet (dieser Bezug wird auch bewußt durch den Bandnamen selbst, der eine 60s-Surfkapelle gleichen Namens zitiert, hergestellt).

So beginnt die Platte mit "Pyramidy", einem seltsamen Geräuschintro, und mit "A White Disc Of Sun" hat die Platte bereits ihren ersten Hit, meine Herrn! Mit einem einzigen monotonen Riff, das zu noisy klingt, um Garagenpunk zu sein, aber wie Garagenpunk groovt, mit einem Gesang, der viel zu verzweifelt klingt, um Garagenpunk zu sein, wird hier eine ganz eigene Version von Garagenpunk gespielt und werden die Merkmale der Platte etabliert. Am ehesten ein Indie-Disco-Hit kann die (als 7" bereits vergriffene) Single "Hunch Your Body, Love Somebody" durchgehen, deren Hitpotential allerdings wiederum von besagten Merkmalen torpediert wird. Weshalb "Empty Yourself" oder "Festoons" auch keine Country-Punksongs sind. Verschnaufpausen bieten einem nur das sphärische Eröffnungsstück "Guitar Star", in dem tatsächlich die Gitarre, bzw. dieser eine sanfte Akkord, der Star ist, und das schleppende "Manitou", das aber auch nur, weil es so langsam ist.

Den Pyramids ist an diesem einen Wochenende, an dem die Platte der Legende nach entstanden sein soll, das Kunststück gelungen, verschiedene Zeitalter der Gitarrenmusik zu verschmelzen (namentlich die 60er und die 90er) und so aufzunehmen, daß sich zwar ein - auf irgendeine perverse Art - harmonisches Gesamtgebilde ergibt, dieses aber von allerlei - teils auch anstrengenden - Spannungen lebt: der verzweifelte Gesang (der immer wieder an Mudhoneys "Blinding Sun" ohne Gequengel erinnert), der Lärm, die Störgeräusche und die teils wirklich fiese Monotonie der Riffs, die irgendwie an 90er-Bands wie Bastro erinnert, oder vielleicht an Slint ohne Breaks, oder an Quickspace, einer-, die Garagenrockseligkeit im Riffing, im Songwriting und in den hinter der stimmlichen Verzweiflung liegenden Melodien andererseits. Eine ganz feine, ungewollt supercoole, aber dennoch ziemlich verstörende Platte, die auch neugierig macht auf die Hauptband der beiden, Archie Bronson Outfit. Und schön verpackt, mit Texten auf dem Innersleeve und einem schönen Miniposter ist sie obendrein noch. Also nicht warten, bis sie irgendwo gebraucht zu haben ist, denn der Vollpreis lohnt sich. Fuck yeah.

A damning review of Bristol Street Citroen Garage on touch Nottingham. The customer writes:

"The last time I had to use this garage was because my gearbox exploded (for lack of a better term), and the tow-truck said that this was the only place that had a secure drop-box that could safely hold my keys, and I was assured that the car would be looked at first thing the next day.

It took two days for the service department to strip the gearbox and tell me my options - either attempt a repair (that I was told, might not last, and would probably have gearbox whine), replace the entire gearbox (very very expensive - almost a write off!), or pay for the diagnostics that they'd done, and take my car to a more reasonably priced garage.

SNAG: They had disassembled my entire gearbox and (sarcastically) said that if I wanted to take it elsewhere, then I'd also have to work out how to transport all of the parts because they wouldn't be willing to put it back together for transporting. That, in my opinion, was a SNEAKY, DISHONEST practice. I decided to have the gearbox repaired at huge cost (almost a grand), and needless to say, the gearbox whine/chatter was present and annoying.

After the sluggish service, inflated prices and otherwise p*ss-poor treatment, imagine my dismay when I found that they didn't put anywhere near enough oil back in the reassembled gearbox"

VROOM! VROOM! I'm ready for the track!

This weekend I have my first track event! This should be a lot of fun. Dad is racing in a Time Trial. I wonder if I'll get to drive? Mom says I'm too young but we'll see. Maybe I can convince Dad. He's a sucker for my smiling puppy face. I've been practicing while they are at work and I'm stuck in my silly crate.

I worked in the garage to help get the car ready for the weekend. I was a huge help. We reinstalled the passenger seat as well as the harnesses. Safety first is what I say! Tonight we even rotated the tires. Getting the car ready is a lot of work.

I stayed right by Mom and Dad so they wouldn't have to worry about me. I'm good about that - I know they worry if I stray too far away. Plus I like their company.

I should have some great stories and pictures from this weekend.

I kept getting a little distracted though while working on the car. There is this spot on the driveway where Mom spilled a drop of milkshake a week ago. She swears there is nothing there anymore but I can taste the delicious flavor for sure. I keep trying to get her to try but she isn't going for it. She gets mad at me and tells me to move on but I just can't. IT IS SO WONDERFUL!

One of my ears is pretty close to staying up. I can't wait to start looking like a grown up GSD! Mom and Dad says I'm growing each and every day. I can't really tell but they say they can. Mostly they just think I'm getting a bit chubby to carry down the stairs for potty breaks but again - just more of me to love. :)

The credit crunch might have everyone talking right now but i've been talking about another Crunch The young MC from the isle of dogs, London to be precise. I personally heard of Crunch about 2 years ago through my boy Ali Bla Bla After hearing him then I knew that the kid had a lot of talent. At the age of 14 his flow was crazy with a real solid grasp of cadence and multi-syllable bar structure. His delivery back then wasn't so solid but it seems that now it's pretty much effortless.

Here's a promo video with a lot of kids running around and trying to look scary haha. It's all good. Look out for more from this boy in the future.

SAPCC #4 Absence

I really did finish these before the deadline. Sorry, I had to wait until I had some time alone to write and now that I do, I am at a complete loss.

The first thing that came to mind is the absence of my dad. Besides his empty Lazy Boy, there's the empty garage. Well, it's not technically empty yet, but were he still here, there would NEVER be shit on his King Midget. "What Absence Means To Me"

The next one is from two weeks ago. It's from a friend's funeral. There are other images that go along with it... I will make a separate post for it & stay on topic.

Were I to be political, I would have tried harder to capture this "Absence of Good Judgement." Please note the "private beach." Let's privatize everything. Things work better that way.

Had I remembered to take home a cocktail glass, I would have added some green food coloring to some water & made some drips of "absinthe." Since I did not, you are left with this... "No Absence of Absinthe."

What's a photo challenge without a shot I took whilst driving? This prime spot of realty has been devoid of business for years now.

I took some Monday to intentionally shoot for "absence." It felt good. I went down to the beach and boardwalk. Once Labor Day has passed, the setting is a little depressing. There are still people who stroll the boards and some of the stands are still open, but the rides are gated up, the hotels are vacant, and there is an overall absence of vitality and Seasonal Affect Disorder starts setting in.

As I was taking this picture, an old couple stopped to stare. Finally, the old man asked if I was taking a picture of the clouds. It was easier to say yes than explain that I was shooting for the absence of a cover on these umbrella like stems. The clouds were pretty cool though.

I was on my way to the beach when I passed dueling "Do Not Enter" signs.

That sign under the colored sign really hurt other versions of the two signs so my preference lies with "Absence of Color" below.

That was almost my choice until I got home and started editing. The light was decreasing quickly when I saw this lone chair propped up in the middle of the beach. The more "absence" I thought of, the more I felt someone there with me.

I try to buy a couple of accessories every month. Recently, I've added a chrome Big Bike Dipstick, Hard Krome 3" Big Straight Pipes (I modded the baffles to quiet them a little) and a Boulevard Shield.

All the human being needs a shelter from the harsh weather. In the forest the wild animal go to their caves or den which they have find or occupied from others to safe them self from cold, rain and sun. Because without a shelter from sun, rain, cold, they get tired just like us. A shelter provides safety from other animals that might cause them harm.

But if you had a pet, you have to decide the safe place for your pet to save them from any harms cause from sun, cold or rain or any atmospheric problem. One can say that shelter is a safe area to call home. If you are keeping your dog without a fenced yard or enclosed patio that is really not safe for your dog.

In many a families there is a rules that they keep there dogs outside, but it is only good if your pet is safe from the bad weather. A special doghouse with a good bed is good or access to a garage is fine for your pet.

She's A Devil In A Blue Dress

Having found his feet within the music industry, exploring the genres and creating a network with established players along the way, Doneao feels the time has come to step out from behind the scenes. Filming a video to accompany Devil in a Blue Dress, the hugely successful hit within the UK Funky scene……

It’s an early start for a Sunday morning with London’s Stanza club as the destination. This would usually bring the thought of an after party to mind, but today its all lights, camera, action. With everybody tired from the social activity within the past 12 hours, the only lay in on this day, seems to have been granted to the sun.

Arriving on set shortly before the hours of 10am, wardrobe, hair and make up shortly arrive with no delays, and an instant start is made on the transformation to make the temptress of the day and Doneao is more than impressed with his options of outfit. He decides on Suave & Chic, a winning choice every time.

Filming commences soon after midday and Doneao is pulling out his skanks in the bank for the camera. The director even has a shot dedicated to his feet!! Who knows, he may have been taking visual notes to try out in front of the mirror at home…….

Proving to be thirsty work, a break is called soon after an hour with orders taken for lunch, then its back to Doneao skanking out for the cameras again. By the time his shot is finished it 3pm, all the cast members have arrived and our Devil in the Blue Dress is ready. At this time, any man would think himself lucky to be scheduled for seduction by this temptress. But first he would have to wait…… Within the midst of lunch, there are changes of clothes taking place and a photo shoot is underway. Doneao is taking full advantage of the wardrobe in full entirety.

As late afternoon drifts into the evening hours, all stomachs are full and cameo appearance members present, its time to wrap up this beautiful creation. As shooting resumes within a party scene, the smiles are definitely not just for camera. Although this is work for all on Doneao’s path to success, the vibe depicted is surely real and will be watched back by those present, as the day Doneao entertained us and showed us a good time. Although the DJ did seem a bit restricted on his selection……

I managed to catch up with Doneao throughout the course of the day to discuss his road so far within his music career. This is what he had to say:

We’re here today filming Devil in a Blue Dress. Tell me a bit about the song’s background.

I originally released the track to DJs back in November last year. I gave them both an instrumental and a vocal to allow them to play their preference. I found that a lot of them originally played the instrumental, and then the one with the vocals started to creep in later.

What was the response you received during that time?

The response was huge! I released another track last July called “I” and “When You’re Alone”, but “Devil” seems to have really hit them. There’s been play listing on mainstream radio stations, so for me it’s a phenomenal success from the underground, especially as an independent artist and having to take care of my own marketing etc.

I believe your label is called Zephron Entertainment?

It’s more of a production company. It’s a small company and at the moment I can only look after myself. I would like to build on it, but our first release is going to be “African Warrior”. But I’ve had to start from the bottom. I managed to push “Devil” to a point where 1xtra approached me, but Choice FM and other commercial stations were from me working hard on the streets. I try not to push things in people’s faces though and I think that contributed a lot to “Devil” blowing up more than “I”. Simply because I let the people choose and there was more hype for “Devil”, so more people have got involved.

You’ve been on the music scene for a while haven’t you?

Yeah. Since I was 19. Going back to the times of UK Garage. My first proper tune was “Bounce” which was right in the beginning stages of my creativity. I knew when I was 6 that I wanted to do music and then when I turned 16, my dad helped me get my first studio. Then I had to really find myself musically, and “Bounce” was the first finished tune that I really ever made. But you make a whole heap of tunes and you think they’re ok, but they’re more like preparation. “Bounce” really showed me that I could make tracks that people liked, but I hadn’t homed in on my creativity, I still had to study myself. Not taking anything away from “Bounce”. It was a good experience and got me in the limelight, but I would advise people that before releasing a track, it’s a good idea to have more ready. Because if it bombs you got more behind you, and if it blows, people are gonna wanna hear more and I wasn’t prepared……There were about 3 years between my first 2 singles and during that time I really got to learn my craft.

So would you say that “I” was the produce of a more matured Doneao?

I didn’t actually produce “I”, and I don’t really work with other producers, being a producer myself. But I would say I homed in on my craft before “I”, while making Grime. Then when I starting making House, I found some real inspiration within my creativity, because “I” was my first House track and I just wanted to keep making more.

Where do you find the inspirations when making your House tracks?

When funky first started to come about, I wanted to know more about it and I started to research House music and its structures, and I learnt that even Garage originated from House. Then I realised there were more sub genres such as Acid, Dance, Electro and I felt that this is the genre where I really wanted to be, reflecting on the fact that I originated within Garage. Not having produced “I” myself and it being totally different to anything that I had made, I wanted to see what I could come up with and “Devil in a Blue Dress” and a few other tracks is really what I got. So even though I’ve been on the scene for a while, I’ve been finding myself and where I belong during that time.

With Devil already being so successful on the underground, where do you see the single going after the official release?

All the way hopefully!! I can only hope to get a number one from it. I’ll push as hard as I can to see how far it can go. If it doesn’t reach number one, I can only hope that it does the best it can do. I’m working hard for it, the whole team are. Anyone that’s interested in my music, I’ll be willing to meet the demand.

We saw you at Glastonbury earlier on this year. What was that experience like for you?

That was heavy man!! But it weren’t just me. It was me and my band, we’re a team. If I get signed, I would like to be signed with them. But it was a great experience. It was the first time we played and all the equipment was like new and the live sound system. We’ve done other live gigs, but that was the biggest.

Is this the first time you’ve done a video too?

This is my first solo video. I’ve done cameos here and there, but this one is all about me. I’ve never really let people see my face, but this tune got so big, I knew that if I wanted to continue promoting it, I’d have to step out from behind the scenes and into the spotlight.

How are you finding the experience?

I’m embracing it at the moment, it’s a bit different from what I’m used to doing, but there’s going to be other things as well like magazine interviews etc but I’m used to staying in the studio and putting tunes out. That’s it. I know how to market myself indirectly, but not in the spotlight. This is the first part of the whole experience for me personally, but the second stage for the single.

So what can we expect in the future?

I’m due to release another 2 singles which I’ve already had good responses for from DJs. I also done a few PA’s in Aiya Napa and Funky seems to be really smashing it over there alongside Niche. But those tracks are still new on the underground so it may be a while before they become as mainstream as “Devil”. In about 3 months time, I think I’ll be in a better position to see what those tracks are really doing, and how I’m truthfully finding the whole experience.

nicht zu verwechseln mit einem Krankenhaus, liegt diese wundervolle Stadt inmitten des idyllischen Drautales. Ruhig und beschaulich geht es dort einher, wenn der Jäger am Hochsitz auf der Pirsch nach Rotwild und Gämsen ist. Nur ein lauter Knall stört dieses formvollendete Gemälde einer Landschaft, die ihres gleichen sucht.

Nun,

ebendieser waidmännische Knall erschütterte Spittal am Abend des dritten Oktobers im Jahre 2008 nach Christus.

Denn es war wieder soweit. Drei Mannen aus dem urbanen Südkärnten suchten Ihr Waidmanns-Heil in ebendieser Gegend. Und wie es der Zufall will, landeten sie im Gasthof zur Alten Post. Dort, erzählte man sich, gab es eine Stube, mit gar sonderlicher Ausstattung. Seltsame schwarze Objekte umrahmten eine Art Podium. Anstatt der üblichen 14-Ender hingen bunte metallene sich drehende Laternen von der Decke.

Da dachten sich die drei Recken: "Es ist unsere Bestimmung!" Es zog sie fast magisch auf das Podest. Die Stille ging allmählich vorüber. Die Einheimische Bevölkerung, welche sich bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt vornehm zurückhielt und zuvor noch in den Winkeln der Stadt tuschelte, kam plötzlich näher. War es die Neugier? Das Fremde? Oder war es die Magie der drei "Weißen Herren"? Wir werden es niemals erfahren.

Da standen sie also. In der dunkelheit des Raumes. Die Herren in weiß. Doch plötzlich holten sie aus großen Taschen Instrumente hervor, die gar sonderlich geformt waren. Waren es Lauten? oder Gitarren? ... ES WAREN GITARREN!!

Die Bevölkerung holte tief Luft, es ging ein raunen durch die Halle, als es unversehens aus den schwarzen Würfeln schallte und die Herren diese Musik zu spielen begannen.

Die Leute waren begeistert, immer mehr drangen in die Halle, um den süßen Tönen zu lauschen. Nach und nach wurde es heller, die Laternen tanzten an der Decke und begannen abwechselnd in allen Farben zu schimmern. Ebenso tanzten auch die Menschen im Rythmus den die drei Herren vorgaben. Ja, es wurde fast ekstatisch.

Es folgte großer Jubel unter dem Volk, fast als hätte jeder, der dieser Nacht beiwohnte die Erleuchtung erfahren! Ja dieser Jubel war fast nicht mehr aufzuhalten. Erst als die Herren ihr Spiel beendeten, verstummte die Menge wieder. Obwohl dies auch noch fast eine Stunde dauerte!

Die drei Männer, verstauten wieder ihre Instrumente und zogen spätnachts in Richtung Dunkelheit hinfort und waren seitdem nie mehr gesehen. Man wird noch über viele Generationen davon berichten, was an jenem Abend geschehen war. Welch wundervoller Klang die Menschen verzauberte, und allen ein glückliches Lächeln uns Gesicht malte.

Einige Leute erzählten sich, dass die drei weißen Herren manchmal, wenn es dunkel wird, im Land erscheinen und die Menschen mit Ihren Tönen verzaubern. Doch ob dies stimmt, ist leider nicht belegt.

The dangerous politics of intimidation and threats in Canada - Car and home vandals aim at Toronto Liberal supporters

Brake lines cut, cars damaged at homes. Toronto police patrolled a midtown area overnight, after vandals cut brake lines on at least 10 cars parked at homes with Liberal election signs on their lawns.

"We're investigating. Officers are paying special attention to the designated area and we take this very seriously," Staff-Sgt. Shawn Meloche, from 53 Division, said last night. "This is a danger to life as well as to property. Regardless of the motivation – and there appears to be a connection (to the signs) – this is a public safety issue."

Affected residents live in the riding of St. Paul's, in a swath of the city around Eglinton Ave. between Bathurst St. and Mount Pleasant Rd., and had Carolyn Bennett signs on their property. Although Meloche confirmed 10 cases of vandalism last night, Liberal riding headquarters said the number was going up, reporting 14 by 9 p.m.

The cars were also damaged in other ways; some were scratched and keyed with L signs. Phone and cable lines of some homes were cut.

"There are two child seats in the back of my car," said Andrew Lane, chief financial officer for Bennett's campaign. "To cut the brake line on a car like that is just evil. Awful."

Added Lane, whose children are 6 months and 22 months: "You have to crawl under someone's car and cut the brake line, knowing that it could kill someone, or their whole family."

Lane discovered his brakes didn't work on his silver Saturn View as he tried to pull up at a stop sign near his home yesterday. He kept slamming the brakes and, in a "moment of terror," narrowly avoided slamming into a bus.

Later, the garage called to tell him it had been no accident. When Lane expressed disbelief, the mechanic told him: "Look, this is a big, heavy rubber hose and it's been cut through with a very sharp knife. You should phone the police."

Police later said Lane was not alone and asked if he had an election sign, telling him, "The Carolyn Bennett sign seems to be the one thing linking events."

"I'm just sick to my stomach about this," a shaken Bennett told the Toronto Star last night. She spent the day visiting the vandals' victims. "It is so upsetting. I've spent my life encouraging people to get involved in the democratic process and now it would appear they are targeted for doing so."

Brent Johnston, former chief fundraiser for the provincial Liberals, was backing his Volkswagen Golf slowly out of his driveway when alarms went off. He then discovered brake fluid in his driveway. When he called Volkswagen, they told him he wasn't the first to call, and to check his car for damage.

He, too, has two young children and shudders to think what might have happened if he had driven the car with a cut brake line.

"This isn't about party politics. Putting people's lives at risk is a whole different thing," said Johnston. "We're not taking the sign down. We won't be intimidated. But I am really disappointed this is happening in Canada. It's beyond comprehension."

Build in Time

Have you ever wished you could travel back in time? Einstein believed that space is curved and time is relative, so time travel is theoretically possible... at least if you plan on traveling to the future. Build in Time takes you in the other direction, where you build your way through six decades of styles and trends from 1950 to 2009. The theme developers from juke boxes and flower power, to disco and leg warmers, straight into the Internet Age and modern life.

You play as Mark Retro, fresh out of high school and ready for his first job. He can't believe his good luck when Anderson Construction, the largest building firm on the West Coast, decides to hire him on the spot. He's even more surprised to find out that his new mentor is none other than his estranged Uncle Al! In fact, he's so estranged that Mark's never even heard of him, thanks to a mysterious family feud. As you build up the business over Mark's 60 year career, you also follow Mark's life as he marries and raises a family with his wife Norma Jean. Being extra successful in the game unlocks different events that influence the course of his life.

If you're a fan of the Build-a-Lot series, especially Build-a-lot 2: Town of the Year, you'll already be familiar with the basic game play. Build in Time takes the same concept and adds to it a bunch of new challenges, power ups, and development additions.

When a customer calls, answer the phone and take note of the order. Each customer will request a home style and color, and later some will want a garage and/or an accessory like a shed or pool. Select the correct house type, and click on an empty plot to send your builders to work. Once the house is complete, select the correct paint color and the target home to get your painters busy. Add the garage and accessories as needed, and move the anxious customer in before she loses patience.

Each level has a revenue requirement that you need to meet in order to advance. Customer's patience levels affect the selling price of the houses. They will pay an extra 5% if they have more than 3 hearts, 15% with four hearts, and a whopping 20% with five hearts! If they reach zero hearts, they will leave, sticking you with an empty lot. Like in real life, some people are more patient than others, so don't be surprised if the Sumo wrestler gives you more trouble than the happy hippie. You can increase customers' hearts by giving them free kitchen appliances.

Is the crew moving too slowly? You can get a crew to move faster by using “click assist” and clicking the mouse rapidly on the house they are building. When the player builds 3 homes of the same style or color, or with the same garage or accessory type in a row or column, “Mega Click Assist” is started. For 13 seconds, you can just click 3 times on something being built to finish it up.

Each level also has special “star scenarios” shown in the top right of the screen. These scenarios include special challenges, such as building certain houses on certain plots or making color matches. The star scenarios are optional, but if you unlock every star in a full decade, Mark will get a special life event. In between each level, you'll have the chance to buy upgrades that improve your efficiency.

You start off with just one building crew and one painting crew, but will have the option of hiring three of each type, as well as optimizing their speeds. There's also a variety of add ons which increase the value of your homes, like gazebos and gardens, along with upgraded house types. You can even hire special service personnel which will save you time, like a receptionist who answers the phones and takes customer's orders, or a home deliverer who automatically escorts the clients to their new digs. You can change your purchases if you decide a different item will better help you meet targets, so the upgrades are flexible.

At any time, you can demolish a building and create an empty lot by choosing the wrecking ball, or else build over an incorrect house. You don't need to wait for the building crew to complete a task in order to change your order. Selected a garage by mistake? No problem – the customers aren't bothered by extra garages, so long as the house is the right type and color, and all the requested items are present.

Users can choose to play in “kids mode” (customers don't lose patience, you can't lose, and there's no revenue requirement to advance), or “standard mode,” so it's suitable for the whole family.

Aside from being addictive and generally fun to play, all of the upgrades affect the dynamics of game play, giving the user a different experience depending on the choices made. The length is good too, taking at least 6 hours or more if you don't replay any levels. Given the number of optional challenges, there's also great replay value. The music and atmosphere change with each passing decade, and there's lots of interesting trivia along the way, so the game play never gets stale.

Despite all the great things about Build in Time, it can sometimes be confusing to keep track of all the requirements when you're building several houses at once, as you need to shift your eyes back and forth across the screen as you play. It's also particularly difficult to beat all the star scenarios, especially the timed levels.

Build in Time is a fun, fast paced, exciting time management game with lots of new twists and plenty of flexibility for players of different skill levels. The time period immersion adds an interesting twist to the story and game play, and there's a ton of upgrades and optional challenges that change the dynamics and enhance the replay value. All in all, it's an entertaining time trip.
