Me gusta ver y hojear las revistas sociales. Muchas niñas queriendo lucir con aspecto de mujeres adultas, y muchas señoras anhelando ser niñas, con una vaginoplastia que no las dejan mentir.

Los hombres con sus damas al lado, parecen lucir un premio cuál Felix Diaz o Gabriel Mercedes, en un podiúm ya desmantelado en Beijing o Pekin (es la misma vaina). Todos sonrien.

Las revistas de la ´crónica rosa´ cumplen su función. Pero claro que por supuesto que yes!.

Por ejemplo, en ellas, muchas señoras obesas de la ´jai clas´ engordan su ego criticando a su ex compañera de colegio o la uni, haciendo resaltar que su ´kerido josban´ la mantiene en la linea, y no del Metro.

Los honorables caballeros de cuello blanco y cuentas limpias, se regodean en la crapulencia falaz de la doble moral, y es que los tiempos de ´cojerse´ a la secretaria de turno, han pasado. Claro que si, es cosa del pasado. Actualmente, o toman a la ´puta oficial´ del condominio, o se prestan las ´putas de coro socialité´. Pero nada de eso sale en las revistas de crónica rosa.

Total, que en el ´ritmo social´ que lleva nuestra cultura, no importan las victimas por inundaciones que pueda dejar una tormenta, o los escándalos bancarios de un ex presidente brutalicio en Quisqueya la saqueada.

Tons, cuando un Junot Diaz dice que deberiamos colocarle una bomba a los políticos del patio, se nos quiere caer el mundo encima, cuál pared en Guachupita sobre 8 cuerpos indefensos.

Pero usted no se preocupe, que si le tomaron una fotografía del perfil que no le favorece, no se crea un Julio Iglesias. Para eso hay estudiantes de publicidad en la UASD que sabran ´fotochopearle´ la imagen. Así usted lucirá rozagante, bello, y libre de impuestos, any ´times´.

Para eso son las revistas sociales. Me encanta hojearlas.

El lunes pasado el periódico TimesOnline de Londres nos coronó como reales ganadores de los juegos Olímpicos Beijing´08. Sí, asi como lo leen, ellos explican que existen varios factores a analizar al medir el triunfo dentro de las Olimpiadas, como son la cantidad de habitantes por país, ya que a mayor cantidad de habitantes mayor es la posibilidad de que una gran parte de estos sean atletas,  el rankin de su economía como país a nivel mundial y la capacidad que tenga para invertir de esos ingresos nacionales en sus atletas y los juegos Olímpicos.

Entonces basándonos en esto, quiénes fueron los reales ganadores en Beijing´08?

La República Dominicana. ( weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!, bulla, fanfarria y mambo!)

Con una medalla de oro en Boxeo por  Felix Díaz y una de plata en Taekwondo por Gabriel Mercedes, nos colocamos en 47 avo lugar en la mesa de medallas, mientras nuestra insignificante economía es solamente la # 179 en el mundo.

No es sorpresa para nadie que países como China y Estados Unidos ostenten, esa gran cantidad de medallas, osea maña fuera!!!  inclusive a naciones como Inglaterra con un cuarto lugar dentro de los juegos no deberían celebrar tanto, ya que es solo un lugar mejor que el de su rankin económico mundial, pudo haber sido mejor su desempeño y Taiwan que se da el lujo de ocupar el 17 avo lugar con una de las economías mas estables del mundo, quedó en el # 79  (por debajo de nosotros uejeeeeeeee!!) convirtiéndose en los verdaderos perdedores.

Men in stegar en lågmäld ung kille från en liten by i Dominikanska Republiken. Och det enda Vastine kan göra, när matchen väl kommit igång, är att hålla fast Diaz. Han gör det så ofta att han tappar 4 poäng på tilltagen. Men vad skulle han göra? Han mötte en mycket bättre boxare än han färväntat sig och Diaz var så snabb att han inget hade att sätta emot. När matchen var slut trodde Vastine inte sina öron (eller ögon) när han insåg att han förlorat med 10-12 (tror jag det var). Diaz hade räddat dagen för Dominikanerna och han var klar för minst OS-silver.

Och på lördagsmorgonen tog han sig an Thailändaren Manus Boonjumnong. De första två ronderna var väl ganska lika, som jag tror poängen också visade. Men så kom tredje. Och då var det inte fråga om nån Asiatisk Tiger längre. Men en tiger var det lika fullt, fast denna gång från Dominikanska Republiken. Stackars Boonjumnong hade inte ens en strimma av en chans. Det var Diaz för hela slanten och sista ronden var som att promenera till guldet. Solklara 12-4, WOW! Vilken härligt genomförd boxningsmatch och Dominikanska Republiken får sitt första OS Guld i Bejing - det andra totalt efter att Felix Sanchez vunnit OS Guld i Aten på 400m häck.

Det kunde ju så när ha blivit två OS Guld i Bejing. I Taekwondo hade Gabriel Mercedes tagit sig till final och poängställningen vid matchens slut visade på oavgjort. Domarna dömde till motståndarens fördel eftersom han fått sin poäng först och Mercedes slutade på en mycket hedersam Silverplats. Men det kunde ju ha blivit Guld....

Dominikanska Republiken fick ett OS Guld i Bejing och det är idag en stolt nation som kommer att belöna Diaz med en bil (4x4) och ca 1miljon kronor i prispengar ur Presidentens hand. Det är han väl värd, pojken från La Javilla i Sabana Perdida som tog OS Guld i boxningens lätta weltervikt klass (64kg). Byborna skanderade samfällt efter matchen: "!Félix Díaz, mi campeón!"

Och det gjorde dom rätt i!

Och för oss andra gäller det nu att hålla reda på vad nästa lågtryck håller på med. Det sägs att det förstärks och håller på att organisera sig.... Det har nu aviserats “Röd Alert” för sydkusten och Santo Domingo och vi förbereder oss för skyfall och kanske en tropisk storm nån gång under morgondagen...

Sin embargo pese a todo esto, Beijing 2008 quedará en la memoria de muchos dominicanos por ser la mejor participación de nuestro país en unas Olímpiadas, ocupando el puesto 46 del medallero, con una medalla de oro y otra de plata, entre los 204 comités nacionales participantes a nivel mundial y en el cuarto puesto a nivel latinoamericano. Nada mal para esta media Isla que se puede dar el lujo de una sonrisa, a pesar de la difícil situación social y política por la que atravesamos.

A pesar del reciente arribo de Estados Unidos a las 1000 medallas de oro en su historia de participaciones en los Juegos, me llena de orgullo ver que gracias al esfuerzo de los atletas dominicanos, se logró una segunda medalla de Oro para nuestro país, luego de que Félix Sánchez lo lograra en el Atenas 2004, coronándose campeón mundial y olímpico en los 400 metros con vallas.

Sin embargo, sin quitar mérito a lo logrado por Sánchez, que lo tiene y mucho, esta medalla lograda por el boxeador Félix Díaz en la competición de 64 kilogramos, me da una mayor satisfacción debido a que Díaz es un producto 100% dominicano (nacido y criado en nuestro país). Repito que no quiero quitarle mérito a Sánchez, incluso en su momento defendí su posición, por el gran sentimiento de ser dominicano que lleva dentro, pero por más que sea no se crió en nuestro país y si lo hubiera hecho dudo que hubiera podido haber logrado todo lo que ha ganado. Eso sí, si critiqué la designación con su nombre al Estadio Olímpico de Santo Domingo (anteriormente llamado Juan Pablo Duarte), por considerarla algo ''prematura''. Lo hubiera visto con buenos ojos si se hubiera designado después de su retiro. Además, el tiempo me ha dado la razón, debido a que lamentablemente luego de que sufriera una serie de lesiones desde el 2004, no ha sido el de antes ni ha podido revalidar varios de sus títulos mundiales, y menos ahora con 27 años de edad a cuestas y en el ocaso de su carrera y condición física.

Así que espero que también se reconozca de la misma manera a Félix Díaz y se cambie el nombre del Coliseo de Boxeo ''Carlos Teo Cruz'' al de Félix Díaz. No, la verdad estoy bromeando, pero sí espero que se le otorguen los 7 millones de pesos prometidos, más una vivienda para él y su familia. Lo mismo con Yulis Gabriel Mercedes, quién ganó la primera medalla de plata para nuestro país en la final del Taekwondo, en la categoría de 68 kilos. A Mercedes se le acreditarán 5 millones de pesos, más un vehículo. Personalmente, alabo las declaraciones de Mercedes, quien pese a perder, ha manifestado su alegría de que la medalla de oro se haya quedado en América (Guillermo Pérez de México). Considero que con deportistas así, grandes en lo deportivo y con un gran corazón humano, podremos asegurar más medallas en los años siguientes.

De esta manera, nuestro país cuenta en su historia con 2 medallas de oro, 1 de plata y 1 de bronce para un total de cuatro. La de bronce la ganó el Boxeador Pedro Julio Nolasco, en los Juegos de 1984, convirtiéndose en el primer atleta en ganar una medalla para nuestro país.

Por último, espero que ahora en la próximas justas deportivas como el Clásico Mundial de Béisbol, a celebrarse el próximo año, los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe que se celebrarán en Mayagüez, Puerto Rico dentro de dos años, los Juegos Panamericanos del 2011, que tendrán lugar en Guadalajara, México, y por qué no también la clasificación al Mundial de Baloncesto en el 2010, nuestro país pueda lograr una participación satisfactoria en cada una de esas competiciones. Gracias a Mercedes y Díaz, en especial a este último, por brindarme por segunda vez en mi 18 años de vida, la satisfacción, la honra y la alegría de escuchar nuestro Himno Nacional en un escenario internacional.

I've already written on that subject once and we've got a poll in our sidebar with just a few options for reform.

Heck, Euan and I even discussed the matter on the podcast this week.

But what with all of the missed punches, punches being scored for the wrong fighter, inconsistent rule enforcement, desasterous penalties and unwatchable tactics used to protect leads there was still something missing.

Nothing like accusations of manipulation and bribery suspensions and heated press conferences to put the final touch up on the canvas of embarrassment that is the current system.

Actually, the gold medal match between Manus Boonjumnong and Felix Diaz will be a shining example of all the failings of the system helpfully condensed in to one fight. You have a guy in Boonjumnong who stalled his way to a victory in such an obvious manner that he was actually booed when announced as the winner and I don't recall that at all during the games and Felix Diaz who benefited from an absolutely terrible job of officiating when he received 2 points on a warning issued to Alexis Vastine for holding when Diaz was even more guilty of it than Vastine. I can't really fault either guy, Boonjumnong was only taking advantage of the system in place and the fact it allows for and encourages the type of behavior he used to maintain his lead. In the case of Diaz, what's he gonna do, admit the ref should have called him for holding and give his fight to Vastine? I don't think the IBA or IOC would agree to such an arrangement.

Frankly, with the number of unhappy nations, fighters, coaches, fans, commentators and officials, I'm surprised it took this long for it to climax. They say in life that you'll never be able to please everyone. Well, who could've imagined they'd hit upon a formula for scoring that managed to piss off pretty much everyone from everywhere? I know the system isn't new to these games but this year it seems even worse than usual. They say the system is under review, I say it needs to be under consideration for execution. There I go ranting again...

"Fue un combate un poco decepcionante, porque al principio no me marcaban los golpes. Pero yo siempre tuve fe y sabía que mi condición física me iba a permitir venir de abajo hacia arriba, remontar y terminar fuerte en el último asalto", expresó el dominicano.

Díaz le dio la vuelta al combate con una sensacional remontada en el cuarto y último round, que se lo anotó 6-1 para acabar imponiéndose 12-10. Su victoria la asegura por la menos la medalla de plata.

"Esta medalla es histórica. Cuando era juvenil entrenaba fuerte pensando en que algún día ganaría una medalla olímpica. La tengo, es para mi país, para República Dominicana, que la disfruten conmigo", expresó Díaz de 25 años.

Sin embargo, Vastine lamentó que cuatro años de preparación se esfumaran por mala decisión de los jueces, según su opinión.

El árbitro penalizó a Vastine en el último asalto por agarrar a su rival, lo que le otorgó dos puntos a Díaz.

"Me ganaron los jueces, no mi rival. Es muy difícil perder en estas condiciones. No sé como me voy a recuperar de esto, es un sueño que me quitaron en tan solo 10 segundos y una decisión errónea", lamentó Vastine.

República Dominicana no había ganado una medalla en el boxeo olímpico desde que Pedro Nolasco lo hizo hace 24 años en Los Angeles.

"Para obtener esta medalla tuve el apoyo de las autoridades deportivas de mi país, a ellos les dedicó también esta medalla", agregó Díaz.

El dominicano se las verá en la final con el tailandés Manus Boonjumnong, quien venció 10-5 al cubano Roniel Iglesias.

We're still awhile away from round-by-round but I will be updating scores as they come in until we get there.

1. Andris Laffita Hernandez (Cuba) Vs. Georgy Balakshin (Russia)
The first round was an ever popular 0-0 tie. Hernandez took the second round 1-0. Balakshin took the second round 7-6 so the judges must have found their buttons. Tied headed to the final round. Herhandez took the final round 2-1.

Final: Andris Laffita Hernandez (Cuba)-9 Def. Georgy Balakshin (Russia)-8
Hernandez will fight for Gold and Balakshin earns the first bronze medal of the games in Boxing.

2. Vincenzo Picardi (Italy) Vs. Somjit Jongjohor (Thailand)
Jongjohor took the first round 2-1 and the TV coverage is starting with the second round. Jongjohor works from the outside in the second round using his long arms and scored a 2-0 round. He's up 3-1 going to the third. Jongjohor continues his dominance in the third scoring a 3-0 round and is up 7-1 going to the final round. He's on a 7-0 scoring run since Picardi scored the first point of the bout. Picardi holds Jongjohor scoreless in the last round but goes scoreless himself.

Final: Somjit Jongjohor (Thailand)-7 Def. Vincenzo Picardi (Italy)-1
Jongjohor will face Hernandez for the gold and Picardi picks up a bronze.

We move to the Featherweight bracket now.

1. Yakup Kilic (Turkey) Vs. Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine)
I've found Lomachenko one of the most impressive fighters in the tournament. A couple hooks to the body earns him 1 point, another hook earns him 0 points. He does pick up a second point and goes to round 2 up on Kilic 2-0. Kilic tries to punch his way off the ropes but Lomachenko deflects all of his blows. Lomachenko matches his first round total with a 2-0 second round and is up 4-0 going to the third. Lomachenko with a nice left to start the third. Lomachenko lands a nice right and is having none of this clinching business. He closes the round with a nice combination and an 8-1 lead headed to the final round. A left hand from Lomachenko results in an 8-count on Kilic. Lomachenko finishes it off 10-1.

Final: Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine)-10 Def. Yakup Kilic (Turkey)-1
Kilic picks up a bronze while Lomachenko will meet the winner of our next bout for gold.

2. Khedafi Djelkhir (France) Vs. Shahin Imranov (Azerbaijan)
Djelkhir jumps out to a 5-2 lead in the first round as Imranov is making the mistake of trying to fight Djelkhir's fight. Imranov won't have a chance to pick up the lead because he's been forced to retire, something is wrong with his elbow. Djelkhir looked good landing a lot of body shots in his one round of action.

Final: Khedafi Djelkhir (France)-5 Def. Shahin Imranov (Azerbaijan)-2

We're moving to Light Welterweights now. Jim Gray interviews Deontay Wilder.

1. Manus Boonjumnong (Thailand) Vs. Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo (Cuba)
Iglesias scores first but a right to the face from Boonjumnong ties up the fight at one. Boonjumnong takes a 2-1 lead. Hook to the body from Iglesias doesn't score and so he trails 2-1 after the first. Boonjumnong lands a shot, Iglesias with acounter but only Boonjumnong's is scored. He scores again with a shot to the body as you can officially add the Cuban team to the list of pissed off countries by the scoring. We've got our own parade of angry nations now but instead of flags they have pitchforks and shotguns. A 6-3 lead headed to the third. Iglesias lands a strong headbutt to Boonjumnong and was nearly disqualified. Boonjumnong is up 9-3 going to the final round a couple of those points came from the Headbutt. Iglesias is frustrated landing bodyshots that aren't scoring even though Boonjumnnong is scoring with shots to the body of his own. Iglesias with 2 left uppercuts on the inside to earn...1 point. And more controversy as Boonjumnong was clearly holding Iglesias, and the referee cautions him...only he had already cautioned him twice and it should have been a warning. 10-5 win for Boonjumnong and the crowd is actually booing. I've watched a lot of Boxing at these games and booing is rare but he's getting it.

Final: Manus Boonjumnong (Thailand)-10 Def. Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo (Cuba)-5
Ladies and Gentlemen, your Olympic Scoring system at its most "effective".

2. Felix Diaz (Dominican Republic) Vs. Alexis Vastine (France)
Diaz comes out quickly and is all over Vastine early. Vastine survives the early attack and actually takes a 2-1 lead. Diaz grabs Vastine's head, lowers it and nails an uppercut. He does this again and a warning is issued to...Vastine! Quality refereeing is on display once more. Vastine takes a 3-2 lead in to the second. Vastine opens up a 3-point lead landing his right hand and a French coach is tossed for I guess being too French. Diaz lands a left to end the round but doesn't score a point. Vastine is up 5-2 after 2 rounds. Vastine with a quick couple of scores goes up 7-2. Diaz is able to cut in to the lead cutting it to 3 despite the best efforts of Vastine to avoid getting hit. 9-6 going to the final round. Diaz with a left cuts the lead to 2 and then he cuts it to one. A long right from Vastine lands and he gets a point. Diaz cuts the lead again with 35 seconds left. Diaz ties it with a left and Vastine goes to the holding and now Vastine is down by 2. Diaz spins away from Vastine at the end and he is headed to the gold medal match.

Final: Felix Diaz (Dominican Republic)-12 Def. Alexis Vastine (France)-10
Diaz is the second dominican to earn a medal in Boxing, the first was in 1984 and a Bronze so he'll do that one better. Vastine is beside himself and probably wishes he had Boonjumnong's ref who wouldn't call holding...instead of his own who called it, on the wrong guy because Diaz did moe than his share of holding. Score another one for the system.

Middleweight bouts are next.

1. Darren John Sutherland (Ireland) Vs. James Degale (Great Britain)
The first round ends in a 1-1 tie and then Jim Gray relays a story that has the British team upset which I will relay later. Sutherland backs Degale against the ropes but is unable to make him pay as Degale is able to fight out of it. Degale is up 3-1 but he's outworked Sutherland by much more than that at this point. He's showing good movement and he's taken Sutherland out of his game. Degale sticking and moving a lot and landing a nice left. Sutherland isn't able to get close and Degale with another left. These 2 have fought 6 times prior and Sutherland has won 5 of those bouts. Degale is up a huge 8-2 going to the final round and the Irish crowd has gone dead quiet. Degale lands a couple more scoring blows but then gets caught with his hands down and takes a vicious right from Sutherland that hurts him. Unfortunately for Sutherland, it didn't finish him and time ran out.

Final: James Degale (Great Britain)-10 Def. Darren John Sutherland (Ireland)-3
Sutherland picks up a bronze, Degale will fight for Gold.

2. Emilio Correa Bayeaux (Cuba) Vs. Vijender Kumar (India)
Bayeaux took the first round 2-0. Kumar scores what is considered an illegal blow scoring with an open palm on a left...but he still gets a point. That reminds me, when I wrote my article on the scoring system i neglected to include something where a point could be taken away. Kumar takes the second round 3-2 and cuts the lead to 1 headed to the third. I'm having computer issues that are almost as annoying as the scoring system itself. Bayeaux comes back in the third and increases his lead to 7-3 including a nice solid right that landed right at the end of the round. Bayeaux goes up 8-3 but Kumar scores a couple of nice body shots to cut it to 8-5 which is how it ends.

Final: Emilio Correa Bayeaux (Cuba)-8 Def. Vijender Kumar (India)-5
Kumar is the first man from India to win a medal in Boxing. Bayeaux trying to duplicate the accomplishment of his father winning gold.

Heavyweights are next.

1. Osmai Acosta Duarte (Cuba) Vs. Rakhim Chakhkiev (Russia)
Acosta jumped out to a 1-0 lead but Chakhkiev was able to tie it up 1-1 to end the round. If you think you need more info than that, trust me on this, you really don't. Chakhkiev with a left over the top to open the second and it of course doesn't score a point. Acosta does some holdificating in this round and unfortunately for anyone who likes entertainment, Chakhkiev is more than willing to go along with it. Chakhkiev sneaks in a clean shot right at the end of the rount to take a 2-1 second round and a 3-2 lead going to the third. Chakhkiev scores a quick point to open the round and then a shot with a left to open it to 5-2 and then another shot to push it to 6-2. Acosta keeps tying him up and Chakhkiev keeps letting him. 3-1 third round and a 6-3 headed to the home stretch for Chakhkiev. Hey, bet you can't guess what just happened to Acosta. Yep, he was given a warning for holding and is now down 9-4 and then gets one back to make it 9-5. Chakhkiev tacks on another one just to make it a round number and wins 10-5.

Wilder has an 8-inch height advantage on Russo. Wilder comes out working his jab early. Russo scores the only point of the round and it is on the shoulder kind of close to the back of the head, so naturally it was scored. A 0-0 second round and I'm way past the point where I desire to say more than that.
Wilder starts to play in to Russo's game chacing him around in the third and helps Russo pick up a couple points as a result and a 4-0 lead headed to the final round. Wilder's dipping of his head whenever he throws a jab is troubling and had better be corrected sooner or later. Team USA goes out with a wimper not a bang. Russo's experience and odd style were just too much here.

My Thoughts: I'd like to welcome Cuba and France to the parade of Nations that hate the current scoring system. It took you guys long enough but you finally got reasons to be pissed. The Vastine loss is horrific especially given what happened in the prior fight. Just when I think that the scoring system has exhausted all possible ways to fail someone, or just when I think a referee can't possibly be worse than a previous ref, it happens.

Félix Manuel Díaz obtuvo medalla de oro de boxeo Welter ligero ( 64 Kgs) en las olimpiadas de Beijing, cuando venció 12:4 al tailandés Manus B., quien obtuvo la presea de plata.

Los resultados fueron RD:Tai primer round 2:1, segundo 0:1, tercero 8:1 y cuarto 2:1.

El francés Alexis Vastine y el cubano Iglesias Sotolongo merecieron medalla de bronce.

"Me siento complacido de conseguir esta medalla de oro para mi país. Hice el ritmo de pelea que quise y me preparé bien para esta pelea.", declaró el dominicano Félix Díaz en la conferencia de prensa oficial.

También reconoció la labor de su entrenador, con quien analizó todo el día de ayer los vídeos de las peleas anteriores del tailandés Manu, para ver cómo peleaba y se movía en el ring. Eso le dio una de las claves del triunfo.

"Mi entrenador es parte del triunfo, pues me indicó una gran cantidad de estrategias. No tengo un entrenador en mi esquina, sino un mago", dijo Félix lleno de emoción y agradecimiento.

"Deseo dedicar esta victoria a mis padres, a mis dos hijitos y a todo el pueblo dominicano quienes siguieron cada uno de mis rounds y me dan soporte diariamente".

En el primer round Félix fue conservador aunque ganó 2:1. Manus ganó el segundo con ventaja mínima 0:1.

En el tercer round Félix mostró una evidente superioridad y obtuvo una cómoda ventaja 8:1. En ese momento la pelea estuvo 10:3. El cuarto round concluyó 2:1 a favor del dominicano. La puntuación acumulada fue 12:4.

Manus declaró que hizo lo mejor que pudo y se siente conforme con la medalla de plata, aunque quedó sorprendido con una victoria tan fácil a favor del dominicano. Mostró orgullo por la poseción de dos medallas olímpicas cosecutivas, de oro en Atenas 2004 y de plata en Beijing.

El boxeador dominicano Félix Díaz vencio esta madrugada al francés Alexis Vastine, en la semifinal Welter ligero (64 Kgs) de las olimpiadas de Beijing. Con este triunfo, Félix aseguró medalla de plata. Alexis y el cubano Sotolongo quedaron con bronce.

Durante la semifinal de Félix Díaz frente a Alexis Vastine, el dominicano perdió los dos primeros round 2:3 y 0:2, empató el tercero 4:4 y finalmente, ganó el 4to. round con una ventaja amplia 6:1.

La pelea final de Félix Díaz para medalla de oro será frente al tailandés Manus Boonjumnong, Mañana sábado, 22 de agosto, a las 8:11 am.

Manus tiene una estatura mayor que Félix. Obtuvo medalla de oro en las Olimpiadas Atenas 2004, cuando venció al cubano Yudel Yhonson.

Hoy, 22 de agosto venció a otro cubano, Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo. Anteriormente venció en las eliminatorias de Beijing a Serik Sapiyev, de Kazakhstan, quien fue campeon mundial 2005 y 2007 de boxeo amateur, en el peso welter ligero de 64 kgs.

El dominicano Félix Díaz se enfrentó al francés Alexis Vastine en la semifinal 2 del peso Welter ligero, ( 64 Kgs = 140 lbs), el viernes, 21 de agosto 2008, a las 2:46 pm ( viernes 2:46 AM de Santo Domingo). El francés tiene una notable ventaja en estatura. En la primera semifinal de este peso, 22.08.08 2:31 PM , se enfrentaron el cubano Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo y el tailandés Manus Boonjumnong. Estos combates decidieron medalla de plata de Welter ligero en Beijing. A las 8:11 PM del sabado, hora de Beijing, se decide la medalla de Oro. En ese momento serán las 8:11 AM del s en la mañana en Santo Domingo. El boxeador dominicano Félix Díaz logró su tercera victoria en el cuarto de final de las Olimpiadas de Beijing 2008, frente al iraní Sepahvandi Morteza, lo que le asegura por lo menos una medalla de bronce en el segmento Welter ligero masculino, 64 Kgs, es decir, las 140 libras. Disputará plata en las semifinales del 22 de agosto a las 14:46 hora Beijing, es decir a las 2:46 de la madrugada de Santo Domingo.

¿Quién es Félix Manuel Díaz Guzmán?

Es un dominicano que nació el 10 de diciembre de 1983. Pesa 145 lbs. y tiene una estatura de 5'5". Vive en la calle Gregorio Luperon , La Javilla, Sabana Perdida, con sus padres Euclides Díaz y Dominga Guzmán. Su padre es un agricultor que nació en San Juan de la Maguana. Tiene un par de hijos. Su comida favorita es arroz con huevos. Pertence a la Fuerza Aérea Dominicana (FAD) desde el año 2001, en condición de deportistas. Ganó medallas de broce y Oro en los Juegos deportivos de las fuerzas armadas.

Participó en las Olimpiadas de Atenas, Grecia, en el 2004, en el peso ligero. No obtuvo medalla. En octubre de 2007 participó en la primera ronda del Campeonato Mundial de boxeo amateur, de Chicago, Il. USA, en el peso welter ligero, donde ganó una pelea y luego fue vencido por el japonés

Kawchi Masatsugu, quien llegó hasta la semifinal. Luego, en la segunda ronda clasificatoria regional de la Asociación Internacional de Boxeo Amateur (AIBA) , en Ciudad deGuatemala, el 25 de abril 2008, obtuvo medalla de oro, y clasificacó para los juegos de Beijing. Roniel Iglesia Sotolongo, Cuba, uno de los posibles contrincantes de Félix, logró clasificación de la AIBA en primera ronda. Manus Boonjunmong acaba de vencer en Beijing al kazajo Serik Sapiyeva , medalla de Oro en Atenas 2004., en primero, segundo y cuarto asalto (7 puntos a 5).

El equipo de Boxeo dominicano en Beijing está a cargo del entrenador cubano Pedro Luis Díaz Benítez y del dominicano Juan José Anderson. Asistieron 6 boxeadores a las olimpiadas 2008: Juan Carlos Payano( Ligero 51 Kgs), Félix Manuel Díaz (Welter ligero 64 Kgs), Gilbert Lenin Castillo ( Welter 69 Kgs), Roberto Navarro ( pluma 57 Kgs), Winston Montero ( Superligero 48 Kgs), Argenis Núñez ( Peso medio 75 Kgs). Salvo Díaz, los demás boxeadores dominicanos ya están decartados para optar por medallas.
