I just realized that I don't need to get thin just for now! I need to actually feed well! I need to change the way I eat, what I eat!! I've done some good steps already, I started eating fruit, more fruit and daily. And exercise, that's a good thing that I'm doing with exercise. I just need to wake up! It's not just about now! It's about the future too!! It reflects in my future!! God, like the sun! It's still my body, it's the same body!! Whatever I do, whatever I eat influences it!.. Gee, why haven't I realized that earlier??! I would have saved much more time and try! And crap! And kilograms! Damn... But hey,it's better late than never anyway so I guess I'm good..

I primi due sono aggregatori italiani di blog su GNU/Linux, il terzo è un aggregatore sull'informatica in generale. Ho anche chiesto l'istrizione a Tuxfeed. Premetto a scanso di equivoci che non mi interessano diatribe/gelosie/invidie tra aggregatori. L'open source è open source e va accettato in ogni parte, anche quelle che possono darci fastidio.

Cosa potrete trovare su questo blog?

Cercherò di scrivere cose originali e diverse. Non troverete su questo blog l'ultima release del kernel (il kernel Linux ha il suo sito, che ho appositamente linkato) né guide più o meno ricopiate.

Questo blog tratterà di GNU/Linux dal punto di vista di chi non conosce l'informatica ma vuole capirla. Questo post è un po' il "manifesto" del blog.

Nella mia esperienza sul forum di Ubuntu-it mi sono accorto che tanti arrivano a questo sistema operativo senza avere la ben che minima idea di cosa sia e di come funzioni. E questo è ovvio. Ma spesso capita anche che non si conoscano le basi dell’informatica. Usare GNU/Linux, anche una distribuzione “facile” come Ubuntu, Mandriva, OpenSuse o Fedora, può diventare stressante.

E’ un po’ di tempo che ci pensavo: spiegare, dall’inizio, da zero, anzi da -1, come funziona un computer, un sistema operativo come GNU/Linux, in modo semplice e comprensibile anche a chi non ha mai capito nulla di informatica.

Per un bel po' di tempo, quindi, mi occuperò di spiegare l'informatica e GNU/Linux cercando di esporre come e perché le cose funzionano così. Niente comandi da copiare, semmai da capire.

Using Ping.fm was a great experience that let me update multiple sites with what I saw doing, and I wanted a way to update/post posts on different web sites so that I can connect with users who use many different types of blogs. So I can post this to both my WordPress.com and Blogger accounts.

I know there are probably other sites that do this, but I love the fact that this is an app that is on my computer, so if I do not have Internet connection, I can write drafts of post and publish them later. Not to mention I can have this in a complete other window than my  web browser, rather than having seperate tabs for different blogs.

All in all I'm happy so far with this utility and will continue to use it to post to both blogs linked to above! I would encourage anyone with more than one blog, or looking to open a second or third blog to use Windows Live Writer to make posts that can be put on multiple blogs.

For those of you who do not know, Dusty (AKA Northern Dust, or Doodle Bug) is my Off Track Thoroughbred whom I adopted on December 22, 2008. She is four years old, and came to me straight off of the track.

We are currently trying to re-balance her metabolism to a life off the track. This means extra food, daily exercise, and stall confinement on days over 80 degrees, much to her chagrin.
Why do we need to re-balance anything?
With her Race Track metabolism, she is burning up everything we give her - meaning a drastic weight swing. One day she will look perfect, the next, you can count every rib.
While this is normal for a horse off the track, and may continue up to 2 years, it's still very frustrating.

DUSTY'S DAILY DIET:

AM -
8 cups beet pulp
1 1/2 lbs. Horse  Kwik (Nutrena)
1/2 lbs. EMPOWER (Nutrena)        

PM:
8 cups beet pulp

BEET PULP
Beet Pulp is what is left over after  Sugar Beets are processed. It is often fed to horses and cattle because it is high in energy and fiber. You can also feed it as a forage. 
Most horsemen agree that you should soak beet pulp BEFORE feeding, as it makes it more paletable, adds water to a horses diet, and reduces the risk of choke.
However, the debate of how long one should soak it remains an interesting debate. The times I have been told range from 5 minutes (which is my personal prefrence) to 3 hours to overnight.
One thing is for certain - NEVER feed beet pulp that has been when for over 2 days, and even less in hot weather, as the beet pulp will begin to go bad.
Dry beet pulp can be saftly stored for upwards of 5 years.

HORSE KWIK

For show horses and horses on the go, forage can be a problem to transport and store. That means horses may not get the nutrients they need to maintain peak performance. Tive outra motivação para fazer este post, essa mesma amiga quando conheceu meu blog falou que o mesmo estava interessante, pois era um blog para iniciantes, com explicações e dicas de como entrar no mercado. Só posso falar que gostei do termo, é legal ver que podemos ajudar alguem.

Partindo para a explicação sobre os Feeds, eu não estou aqui querendo dizer o porque do nome e coisas do genero, caso queira saber aqui está a página da wikipédia sobe isso.

Eu estou aqui para abrir a mente daqueles que não conhecem, saberem o quanto isso pode facilitar a vida. O feed funciona como um email, você pode criar uma conta no Google Reader (ou similares, eu dou a dica desse pois é o que eu tenho e facilita muito.) Você adiciona o feed em um serviço desses, que as atualizações do blog irá direto para lá.

Ou seja, você receberá nessa sua "caixa de email" os posts, sem ter a necessidade de entrar no blog. Ao mesmo tempo que o blog ganha também, pois ter leitores fieis (o caso dos feeds) é muito bom!

Caso ainda tenha dúvidas entre em contato comigo, responderei o mais rapido possível.

• Does a buyer really perceive a difference between 99.9% and 99.6% ? I think no... but definitely from 100% to 99.9%, or 90% to 89.9%.

The sellers who did get burned were ones that lost powerseller status because their feedback score was too low, or other effects to their account, such as lowered search ranking.

But really if you can't keep your feedback score above 99% something is wrong with your strategy.

Setting up a new ebay account is time consuming.

Also, ebay announced some plans for a buyer to be able to revise feedback if the seller fixes the situation (or pays the buyer off via Paypal).

What dollar value do you place on a negative feedback on your score?  What lengths would you go to to negotiate with the buyer to get it removed?

Turning those negatives into neutrals or even positives can be huge.  As buyers are becoming more and more educated (it only takes one item never received) they are looking more at our feedback.

The Consumer Price Index  went up 1.6% in the June quarter and pushed inflation up to 4% while dairy farm working costs  rose 10% a hectare in the past year.

Specialist dairy farm and business management company, Farmright, surveyed 50 farms which the company manages and found that between 2006-07 and 2007-08, feed rose 25%, fertiliser 24% and freight and cartage 37% per hectare.

Farmright manager Jim Lee said fertiliser costs had gone up further since the survey was done, and wage costs were also creeping up on dairy farmers.

Wage costs only rose 3% last year, but newly negotiated contracts indicated that figure would increase sharply this year because of greater demand and a shortage of workers.

The shortage of staff is critical and it's not helped by immigration policy which requries herd managers to have a bachelor's degree or five years relevant work experience if they are applying for residency.

"We know from contracts being negotiated for new and existing staff being rolled over that there have been some increases."

The cost of production, which included feed, run-off costs and cost of management, but excluded depreciation on the Farmright-managed farms, rose from $2.91 per kg of milk solids (kg m/s) in 2006-07 to $3.61 per kg m/s in 2007-08.

Mr Lee said drought and cost increases had an impact. But he said some businesses were now operating at higher cost structures than they would be aware of.

He believed some farmers would be faced with costs of $6 per kg, made up of $4 per kg farm input costs and interest costs of $2 per kg.

"Cost control and financial discipline are more important now than ever before," he said.

It is easy to let costs get away when the payout is high but not so easy to rein them in when the price falls.

However, one of the speaker's at last year's South Island Dairy event (SIDE) conference told how he'd gone into dairying when the milk payout was $5.30 and the next year it went down to $3.60 - but they made more that season than the previous one because they were much more disciplined about containing costs.

Although not indicated by the staff, this sudden news on the plug-in is likely the result of recent criticisms that started over an open letter to the Yo Yo Games staff that appeared on Connor Wilkins' blog yesterday. One of the points brought up in the letter was a distinct lack of progress updates on the Firefox 3 compatible Instant Play plug-in. Until now, Firefox 3 users have been unable to play or download games from the YoYo Games website. This problem has also deterred new visitors from the site who are also unfortunate to be using the browser.

The GMC forum also got an update today. The forum now supports RSS feeds of the five most recent topics in the Announcements and Examples/Tutorials forums.

Also regarding the GMC - anyone who is using the GMC Extension (karma) plug-in, we are currently testing the skinning feature that enables users to choose their own theme/look for the forum. This feature should be available to the public sometime in the near future.

RSI’s Themes: RSI had no ETF/CEF picks today as well as no falling knife suggestions.  However, it did pick five stocks including two stocks new to RSI.  Two of the stocks are based overseas, two have a connection to agriculture, and one in marine shipping. 

Stocks Medium Volatility:

• KOF - Coca Cola Femsa, SAB

These two foreign based stocks have been behaving well and I expect they should do well following their current correction recovery.

Stocks High Volatility:

• FEED - AgFeed Industries, Inc.
• GNK - Genco Shipping and Trading Ltd.
• MOS - Mosaic Co.

AgFeed could have been a falling knife pick, but we don't do that for stocks.  MOS looks quite solid while GNK is struggling.  Please use caution here.

For full disclosure I hold a position in MOS that I bought when RSI first recommended the stock.

The previous year the price of inputs increased 2.7%.

Major increases were:

Fertiliser, lime & seeds:         30%

Fuel:                                      23.5%

Feed & grazing:                     13.7%

Interest:                                 9.0%

Electricity                               7.2%

Local Govt. rates                    6.6%

Although the high dollar reduced the price of imported goods, fertilsier, lime and seed prices still increased by 30%. The price of fertiliser increased from $260 to $480, another 60%, between March and June, June but that is not included in these figures.  

Local Government rates increased 6.6 per cent. This was the second largest increase in 17 years and in the last five years the overall increase was 33 per cent, an average of 6.6 per cent per year. The overall cumulative increase over 5 years to March 2008 was 22.7 per cent, while over 10 years the increase was 37.0 per cent.

In comparison the CPI rate of increase over 5 years was 14.0 per cent, well below the 22.7 per cent for sheep and beef farm input prices

If interest is excluded, the underlying rate of on-farm inflation in 2007-08 was up 8.3 per cent.

Sto vedendo se col servizio Pipes di yahoo sia possibile fare tutto questo senza fottere il feedburner a quelli che si sono già iscritti a questo blog. I looked back over those items, read probably a couple of dozen, and then marked the rest read. I categorize those ~900 as follows:

• Those I will go back and read. For example, I'll visit Drawn!, being especially careful not to miss the post about the Totoro Forest Project.
• Those I'm very slightly regretful about having missed. This accounts for probably 600 or 700 of the 900.
• Those I'm relieved to have missed. Top, or bottom, of this list are the posts about Microsoft's latest play for Yahoo. I probably shouldn't admit it, but I'm also glad to have missed the iPhone 2.0 launch/hype/fiasco. There will be no shortage of posts about MicroHoo, iPhone, gPhone, etc., this week.

När man (liksom jag) läser bloggar via "nedladdad feed" (d.v.s. använder en lokalt installerad RSS-läsare som tankar hem feeds och lagrar informationen på den egna datorn) och inte varit uppkopplad på ett antal dagar eller veckor kan det uppstå luckor i inläggsfloden - vissa inlägg saknas/visas inte. Detta sker när en bloggare hunnit skriva fler nya inlägg än antalet i bloggens feed.

Ibland är det uppenbart att ovan scenario utspelat sig, ibland stört omöjligt att upptäcka - det beror helt på hur frekvent respektive bloggare bloggat innan och efter offline-perioden. Min RSS-läsare laddade hem flödena den 22/6 och var sedan offline i 19 dagar. Jag vet inte hur många inlägg som RSS-läsaren missat, men vissa luckor är uppenbara - t.ex när det saknas inlägg mellan den 22/6 och 4/7 fast det finns minst ett per dag både före och efter.

Dessa saknade inlägg är inlägg man som "lokalklientsprenumerant" antingen måste jaga rätt på manuellt eller avstå från att läsa. För mig kostar det - antingen i tid och möda (om jag letar upp inläggen för hand) eller i bristande information (om jag låter bli) medan det för de flesta av bloggägarna skulle vara smärtfritt att utöka antalet för att fylla luckorna. Enkel ekvation, va?

Mitt förslag är sålunda att ni som bloggar, och som inte redan gjort det, utökar antalet inlägg i feed:en. Hos Wordpress.com verkar det per default bara vara de 10 senaste som finns med i flödet (och jo, feed och flöde är samma sak - jag växlar mellan orden eftersom jag inte trivs med någotdera).

Q: Hur gör man?

A: Tja, bloggar man på Wordpress.com går man in under "Inställningar" / "Läsa" och ändrar siffran vid "Syndication feeds show the most recent" - jag har valt att visa de 50 senaste. Egeninstallerad WordPress kan ha andra menyval, beroende på vilken version du kör. Och på Blogspot hittar jag inte alls någon möjlighet att ändra antalet - använder du den: dags att byta?

Q: Hur många inlägg bör man välja?

A: Ptja, ta en funderare - hur många inlägg skriver du som mest på... säg, en månad? Det antalet borde vara en hyfsad utgångspunkt när du konfigurerar antalet inlägg i feed:en för din blogg. Eller så kan du vara riktigt generös och låta mig vara totalt offline under hela min semester utan att behöva missa något - räkna med sex veckor. Skriver du tre inlägg i veckan bör din feed alltså minst innehålla de 18 senaste inläggen, gärna fler.

Inte så svårt, va?

Och för att nu sätta lite press på några av er vill jag särskilt uppmana följande bloggar(e) att utöka antalet inlägg i sina flöden: andra sidan, Anna Troberg, deep.edition, Leva livet, snowflakes in rain och opassande. Seså, marsch iväg! Och jo, det är klart att det skulle ha följts av en blinksmiley - om jag nu hade varit en sådan som använt sådana i mina blogginlägg, vill säga.
