I think I’ve mentioned before once or twice (or twenty times) that I’m an extremely left

I think I've mentioned before once or twice (or twenty times) that I'm an extremely left brained person who lives in a state of continual chaos. Left brained people don't handle chaos all that well. So, I pick my battles. One of them is organization. I can't control much of the topsy-turvy roller coaster I call life, but I can find ways to keep certain areas whipped into shape. I call them my Topsy-Techie Organizational Toolbox, and - - because I like you - - I've decided to share some of my favorite tools in the box today...

LIBRARY ELF - This probably goes down as one of my all time faves in the toolbox. Because we are big users of the public library, we couldn't do without this email library reminder service. By signing up with the free service, and entering each of your library cards into the database, Library Elf will take care of the rest. It reminds you of due dates and holds on any type of media in the library, by sending a personalized reminder to your email. You never have to deal with overdue fees again!

I WANT SANDY - I am of the opinion that every homeschooling family needs a personal assistant. With all the comings and goings, scheduling conflicts, and appointments, we could use a little help. Introducing: Sandy - - your digital assistant. No matter how big or small the detail, you can let Sandy remind you of it, by sending you messages to your email, Blackberry, Palm, iphone, or cell phone. You talk to Sandy in natural language, and she "gets it", and makes it really feel like you have an assistant backing you up.

DONNA YOUNG NOTEBOOKING PAGES - There are quite a few good websites that catalog printable homeschool organizers. This just happens to be the one I go to most often. The resources are free and plenteous, including lesson planners, attendance & grade trackers, checklists, curriculum shopping lists, notebooking templates, and homeschool group printables. The forms can be printed and saved in several formats, including RTF, DOC, and PDF.

EDU-TRACK HOME SCHOOL - If you are tired of all the paper trail, and especially if you are concerned with the environmental impact of all that paper, you might prefer to do a lot of your homeschool record keeping on the computer. Edu-Track is a homeschool record keeping and lesson planning software that helps you create lesson plans, track progress reports, keep a teacher's journal, track hours and attendance, organize assignments, create transcripts, organize unit studies, and many other things. It isn't a free program (it costs $59 for the PC version), but it can more than make up for the investment in time and paper-clutter savings.

HOMESCHOOL SKEDTRACK - Homeschool has a few less bells and whistles than Edu-Track, but it accomplishes many of the same tasks for free - - and your information is kept online, so that you can access it from any computer.

MEALS MATTER - This is a nutrititionally-focused online meal planner that helps you organize healthy meals for your family, and includes meal planning tools such as a meal-planner, cookbook, pantry list, and shopping list.

CABLE IN THE CLASSROOM - As you guys well know, we recently chucked our satellite subscription. But before the DirecTV headed out the window, this was one of my favorite sites for finding and organizing upcoming educational programs. Cable in the Classroom is a cooperative effort from Cable Television stations to create educational programming that is good for classrooms. The resources at the website include a searchable index of upcoming educational shows by subject, and a monthly calendar of programming highlights. There are also links to online video content (for folks like me who have said bye-bye to cable)

I hope you will find something in my Topsy-Techie toolbox that will make your homeschool schedule a little less topsy-turvy, and a little more manageable! Have a great weekend!

The cat’s out of the bag. Even though there’s been no official press release, CableLabs leaked and then confirmed that the Motorola MTR700 was one of two tuning adapters to be awarded certification in the recent Cert Wave 60. Quick recap: the tuning resolver is what will allow one-way cable devices to continue to access all cable channels even when some channels are moved to a switched digital network. Current plans are for the MTR700 to ship in the fourth quarter.

Interestingly, Comcast has been as enthusiastic about migrating to all-digital broadcasts recently as deploying switched digital video to save bandwidth. Another type of Motorola adapter, the DTA100, is on order from Comcast and will convert digital signals to analog for subscriber hold-outs still clinging to basic cable service.

Meanwhile, SDV work does continue to move forward. Cable Digital News recently reported that Comcast has added two more trial markets in Minnesota. Motorola has commitments in hand to pass more than 24 million households with SDV service.

Woohoo, series 6 is going to start soon and by the look of it, it seems to be a brilliant series. I will keep you informed when we can expect to see this series on channel 5 (yes I know some of you may have seen it on Sky or cable or whatever you have) but for some of us we don't have it, and have to wait till it is on "normal" tv. But I can't wait, after CSI: New York finished and CSI: Las Vegas. If any of these series stopped, I don't know where I would be lol.

Synopsis: The internet has was designed to be an open platform where anyone can create a website and any information can pass through a connection. If big business starts to be selective about what can pass through it will be like when the FCC cracked down on early radio expression and it wasn't long before only commercial radio existed. The internet needs to stay neutral and not give certain files preference. A 10 minute version of this feature length documentary has circulated over the past year getting half a million views and now more then ever the issue is heating up and threating the future of the net. Please help me raise the funds to get a full time editor to make the project complete. I've already proved my filmmaking abilities with Four Eyed Monsters and the 10 minute edit. And I know I can get this documentary seen if I can release it for free. So I want to get it funded in advance so I don't have to sell it when it's done. people will be able to just have it and become a part of the cause.

One of the things that has dramatically changed in the television world, non-reality farces division

One of the things that has dramatically changed in the television world, non-reality farces division, is that summer shows, mostly on cable, are often the ones I, and a lot of others, anticipate most. I might miss a few because some days it seems like Alzheimer's is right around the corner (and perhaps not a minute too soon, given some of the things I do remember), but here are shows which have returned (or soon will) for summer viewing which I think are easily the equal of all but the very best mainstream TV fare.

Burn Notice, a very good spy/secret agent sort of thing in which the main character has been "burned," i.e. cast out and left to his own devices (though that's now changing a bit) returned for its second season a couple of weeks ago. New this year is In Plain Sight, with the very appealing Mary McCormack as a Witness Protection officer whose charges keep getting found by the bad guys, and The Middle Man, a show I suspect is not for everybody but which I get a kick out of. It's done the way the mindless critics mean when they call something a "comic book movie," with the lead character played as a dim-witted parody the way Adam West did Batman all those years ago and his female sidekick doing a lot of self-referential comments in a patter so fast you'd think she was a refugee from The Gilmore Girls. Absurd, in other words, but great fun.

The Closer, the story of southern belle policewoman relocated to Los Angeles, and Saving Grace, another female cop story, this one a hard-drinking, openly promiscuous lady with her very own guardian angel (for real), both came back this Monday night. The two are somewhat unusual in the summer genre (but not unique, as we shall see) in that they feature big name stars from other media. Kyra Sedgwick is phenomenally good as the self-centered Brenda Leigh Johnson, extraordinary at her job, not so much as personal life. The latter show, which still seems unclear about exactly what it's storyline is, is built around Holly Hunter's riveting portrayal of loose-living Oklahoma detective Grace Hanadarko. The pair run back to back on Monday nights, another bonus.

Monk, a show most have probably at least heard about, has another recognizable star, Tony Shalhoub, as obsessive, compulsive former police detective turned private eye Adrian Monk, returns Friday night and is followed by Psych, the story of Shawn Spencer, who uses his extraordinary powers of observation to run a psychic detective agency with his reluctant pal, Burton Guster ("Gus"). The emphasis for these two hours is more on the comedy than the mystery, the right approach for a Friday night.

More comedy drama, and evidence that this whole summer lineup isn't just about cop shows, is featured in Eureka, which returns late this month. Instead of cops, we got a sheriff in this one, Jack Carter, a perfectly ordinary guy who gets hired to maintain law and order in a a secret government complex where everyone is a genius and crazed inventions and failed experiments are the focus of most stories. Pretty daughter Zoe complicates things as pretty daughters do on television.

Two of the most highly regarded of the "off-prime" shows will arrive later in the summer., Damages, starring another big name star, Glenn Close, is a complicated and nicely cynical legal drama and also has the very recognizable Ted Danson is a role far removed from Cheer's Sam Malone. The Danson character was apparently killed off at the end of the first season but word is he'll be back, although maybe only in flashbacks.

Man Men, set in a 1950's advertising agency, was far and away the most critically acclaimed cable show of last year (The Closer is still the highest rated ever). It's a terrific period piece with a terrific cast, a great deal of its charm lying in its verisimilitude, capturing the clothing, the habits (the cigarette smoke almost seeps from the screen) and the hypocrisy of the days the The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit.

Ya'll know I only watch BET on special occasions and for the Keyshia Cole Show, But this right here.. Has to be the funniest thing I have EVER SEEN. What's really good ya'll? Arguing on the air about prompter reads?? Highly unprofessional, yet hilarious!

For Real!!? This is so funny to me. A) this has to be about more then reading stuff wrong, this is some outside business coming inside. B) Terrence was the angry one he just kept going until she got pressed. c) do you notice how uncomfortable all the kids look during the exchanges?? LOL!! They looked like little kids when mommy and daddy get in an argument!!!

BET has said that Terrence will apologize to Rocsi on the air. (beacuse they're making him)

So what's going to happen? What did happen? Why did Terrence even start this mess? Why did Rocsi punk out and refuse to finish it?? Will Rocsi stay on the show? Why does BET have a GMail Account instead of an @BET.com account? Where can I get The pink Short set Rocsi had on?? (I was feeling that!)

All this and more on "As the MTV rip off Show Turns"

How did Dish Network Virginia get to be the television powerhouse that it is now? The answer is pret

How did Dish Network Virginia get to be the television powerhouse that it is now? The answer is pretty simple actually. Dish Network VA supplies the best television programming possible at affordable prices and accompanied by convenient, user friendly technologies.

While other television service providers offer many of the same great channels that Dish Network VA does, no one does a better job of anticipating what TV viewers will want to watch and then putting that together into an entertainment package. One great example of this is Dishnetwork VA's economy package: Dish Family. Dish Family is designed for the family who's just starting out and wants to get ahead. It has only forty channels, but that relatively small selection includes a blend of channels like the Hallmark Movie channel and Animal Planet that both adults and children love and can enjoy together as well as channels that appeal to children and adults separately. The result is an extremely satisfying entertainment package that's very cost effective to subscribe to.

At the other end of the extreme is Dish Network VA's America's Everything Pak. America's Everything Pak has one hundred and eighty of the most popular channels available anywhere plus movie packages from Showtime, Cinemax, STARZ, and HBO; for a total of over two hundred channels! America's Everything Pak is the entertainment package of choice for the family with really diverse television tastes who also loves movies.

In between the two extremes of Dish Family and America's Everything Pak, are America's Top 60 Entertainment Package, America's Top 120 Entertainment Package, and America's Top 180 Entertainment Package. These three entertainment packages are designed to appeal to the majority of Dishnetwork Virginia's subscribers. Each contains a wide variety of programming including movies, news, sports, children's programming, programming of special interest to women, and even programming of special interest to men. America's Top Entertainment Packages are also flexible and designed to grow as your family's needs for more diverse choices grows. For example, if you start out with America's Top 60 Entertainment Package and want more channels, upgrading to America's Top 120 will simply add sixty more channels to those you already have. The same is true for America's Top 180 Entertainment Package.

Satellite TV has made a huge difference in the lives of many different people. Dish Network Satellit

Satellite TV has made a huge difference in the lives of many different people. Dish Network Satellite TV knows this better than anyone, which is why it has been motivated to continue to deliver the best possible quality and value in the years since it first made satellite TV available to normal families back in the early nineteen nineties. Click here for more information about the Current Dish Network Specials.

Ever since the very beginning, Dish Network has provided superior value in terms of the number of channels for any given amount of money spent, and that value has just gotten better as this company’s programming packages have gotten bigger and the supplemental technology has improved. For example, the introductory level programming package now offers roughly one hundred channels, which provides plenty of options for any family. Of course it’s still possible to get much larger programming packages as well either by subscribing to large ones or customizing smaller ones with the addition of extra services. For instance, it’s possible to add foreign language programming, sports programming, premium movie packages, or HDTV channels onto introductory and mid level programming packages for a customized viewing experience!

The number of programming options available through Dish Network is truly incredible. The foreign language options are an excellent example of this. It’s now possible to receive programming in languages that include Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Cantonese, Arabic, Italian, and many more. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is a student of other languages or who has ties to those cultures. The variety of sports programming is also extremely impressive. In addition to the sports packages that are comprised of numerous seasonal sports networks, Dish Network can provide you with seasonal sports subscriptions that deliver every game in the sport and league of your choice throughout the regular season. Options include major league baseball, major league soccer, the National Hockey League, the NBA, and many more! Of course it’s also possible to mix and match premium movie packages such as Comcast, HBO, Starz! and Showtime in order to provide you with a great selection of movies!

Getting High Definition Television (HDTV) channels from Dish Network is an option that will truly enrich your viewing experience! That’s because HDTV is the next generation TV format that can provide you with the best possible combination of picture, sound, and overall cinematographic experience in your own living room! This excellent viewing opportunity will provide you with a higher quality picture, a wider viewing angle with the 16:9 aspect ratio, and the realistic sound of Dolby Digital 5.1! These features comprise the standard for HDTV programming, and Dish Network’s HDTV channels provide the high quality programming that deliver that theater quality experience right in your living room! Best of all, Dish Network’s HDTV channels go far beyond movies in their scope. For instance, you’ll be able to enjoy programming about all a bunch of different hobbies and pastimes that you may be interested in as well as live concerts, original dramas, sports, classic reruns, and even the news!

Dish Network gives you a real advantage when it comes to enjoying your TV service through its DVR receivers. DVR is short for Digital Video Recorder, and one of these devices greatly improves your ability to govern your TV viewing so that it can conform to the other demands of your life!

Over the years, there have been a lot of different ways to watch TV, but satellite TV is proving to be the most enjoyable and effective in many different ways. After all, no other technology is able to deliver a large number of high quality channels to as many people at such a great value! Dish Network Satellite TV has proven this time and again with its orientation towards quality, value, and high technology! Click here for more information about the Free Dish Network Deals.

Dish Network’s excellent service is based on great technology and builds off of it with a human touch when it comes to choosing the best possible combinations of channels and providing excellent customer service. The technology is an interesting blend of features that have been proven over the course of time and new innovations that promise to deliver better service than ever before! For example, the actual satellite technology and digital TV technology have been around for decades. The use of satellites means that an enormous number of people can be served across an enormous area (the entire continent of North America, actually) at relatively little cost and trouble when compared with cable. The use of digital technology to transmit the TV signals means that all subscribers enjoy a great combination of high quality picture and sound with helpful and entertaining interactive features!

The interactive features are especially useful when it comes to taking advantage of a satellite TV subscription. The thing is that Dishnetwork provides so many channels that deciding what to watch can be a real problem. Fortunately the Dish Network’s Interactive Electronic Program Guide provides the answer by providing viewers with all of the viewing options that are currently available, and will be available in the immediate future, in an easily navigable form. This makes selecting a channel an easy and pleasurable experience that bypasses the hit and miss pitfalls of channel surfing.

In addition to digital TV and great transmission technology, Dishnet TV also provides more advanced technology such as Digital Video Recording and High Definition Television. DVR, which is short for Digital Video Recording, is a life changing innovation for many TV viewers. That’s because it actually makes recording TV for later viewing an easy process thanks to the ability to use the Dish Interactive Electronic Program Guide as an intuitive interface for programming the device. Gone are the days of stumbling through the esoteric numeric interface of the VCR. With a Dish Network DVR, it’s just a matter of highlighting the program to be recorded and pressing a button! The machine does the rest. In addition, the Dish Network DVR offers the options of fast forward, rewind, and pause during the playback of recorded videos, as well as the ability to pause live TV! These DVR’s are built into a variety of satellite receivers so that there are options to meet everyone’s individual needs. In addition, several models support the use of external hard drives for virtually unlimited video storage capacity!

High Definition Television (HDTV) is another cutting edge technology offered by Dish Network. With access to HDTV channels, an included HDTV receiver (with the option of DVR capability), and your own HDTV set; you’ll be able to enjoy theater quality entertainment at home! Best of all, even though HDTV programming is theater quality, you’ll get a lot more than just movies from Dish TV!

Monday Monday, can't trust that day,
Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be
Oh Monday Monday, how yould cou leave and not take me.

It has been quite a Monday. I've had problems with my cable company - they never billed me last month, and evidently I'm supposed to notice that among all of the mail and bills that I have gotten that I haven't received one, and so they were getting ready to cut my cable off. I've paid them and it's all good now, but really, I have better things to do then notice that I have or haven't received a bill. The lady actually told me that I should have called and asked where my missing bill was. I told her that since they were having all of these issues with switching us all to digital receivers that I thought that they were waiting to bill us until they got it all straightened out. Anyways, I was reduced to tears, because I have never been late on a bill before, and wouldn't have been this time if they had sent the bill. So, not so great a start for things with a cable company I'm already not happy with.

So, I went down to my office to inquire about other cable options as well as about resigning my lease. Starting with the cable - there are no other options other than my current carrier. Which is really irritating. But they have the monopoly on my complex. So I can either stick with my cable company and have to deal with them or I could switch to satellite or dish. None of it is without its upsides and downsides. On top of all of that when I asked about resigning I was informed that my rent was being raised. Which, is so not what I wanted to hear after everything else. I'm now weighing my options of trying to find a cheaper place to live, like the potential for a free garage apartment, or just sucking it up and staying here. If I stay here I may drop my cable and just not bother paying for something that I don't need anyways.

Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin' all of the time

With summer in full swing, blogging and podcasting has been light.

I did give Friendfeed a try and I really like it. Follow me here.

I recently took back my DVR cable box. It was acting up again. This time I decided to cancel cable all together. Now I just have the internet and I haven't missed cable T.V. at all. Most of what I want is on the internet. Now my attention is divided between my iMac, my PS3 (for games and Blu-ray movies) and reading. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I can download any T.V. show I want to watch, the rest doesn't matter. Even live sports is streaming now. It's not as good as high definition, but it's not nearly as expensive either. I now pay $55/month for high-speed as opposed to $120/month for internet and HD cable. My biggest problem with cable is all the channels you have to pay for to get the few you might watch. It just isn't worth it. Not to mention the heavy compression artifacts you get with cable HD. Once you've seen 1080p HD on the PS3, you can't really go back to cable HD.

I'm also digging into the BBC Planet Earth series on Blu-ray. Absolutely stunning. I have a new appreciation for this beautiful planet. Let's not destroy it with another war in the middle-east, or by ruining our environment.

Still missing Tim Russert, and George Carlin. I bet they're asking tough questions and speaking the truth wherever they are. Check out Carlin's bit about the decline of the west, and the real owners of America.

Everyone knows that satellite TV is a great way to get TV, but you might not be as aware of all of the benefits that you can derive from subscribing to Dish Network Promotions. First of all, you’ll find that this company offers you the greatest number of options for places to live while taking advantage of its services. That’s because while cable TV is only available where the cables run- which is pretty much only population centers- Dish Network’s service is available just about everywhere in the country! There are some enormous implications to this such as the fact that it’s easy to bring the service with you when you move, you can live anywhere you want, and even take the service with you if you travel by RV or boat!

The advantage of being able to take Dishnetwork Satellite TV with you when you move is enormously beneficial. That’s because the service won’t change just because you’re living in a different area. While your local channels will change (if you subscribe to them), all of the other channels will remain the same. This makes the process of moving a lot easier when you don’t have to get used to new channels or reprogram the bookmarks and preferences on your receiver in order to accommodate the change. Dishnetwork is a lot more convenient than cable where when you move you’ll probably have to start service with a new cable TV company that probably does things differently. In addition, there’s an excellent chance that if you move out into the country or opt for small town life, cable TV won’t be available in any case!

Another advantage of Dish Network is it’s ability to go with you when you travel. Many people make this possible by installing home entertainment equipment- including a satellite receiver- in their motor homes, travel trailer, and even their boats. They typically have their electronics strapped down for the movement of the vehicle and pick up the satellite signal either through a satellite dish installed in the roof under a dome or on a tripod that can be set up outside when the vehicle is stopped for the night. In addition, with the use of a generator or a good bank of batteries, it’s possible to watch TV even in the middle of the ocean or out in the back country! Another advantage can be enjoyed from subscribing to local channels. This will allow travelers to keep up with the happenings in their home towns while they roam!

Regardless of whether you enjoy your Dish Network subscription on the road or in a fixed place, you can take advantage of the benefits of HDTV. High Definition Television, as this technology is known in long form, is a great way to get the most out of your TV viewing because it more closely resembles the movie theater experience than normal TV does! Dish Network’s HDTV channels provide the more detailed picture, the better sound quality, and the wider viewing area that will allow you to get the most out of your HDTV set and convert your living room into a cinema!

How did Dish Network North Carolina get to be the television powerhouse that it is now? The answer is pretty simple actually. Dish Network NC supplies the best television programming possible at affordable prices and accompanied by convenient, user friendly technologies.

While other television service providers offer many of the same great channels that Dish Network NC does, no one does a better job of anticipating what TV viewers will want to watch and then putting that together into an entertainment package. One great example of this is Dishnetwork NC's economy package: Dish Family.

At the other end of the extreme is Dish Network NC's America's Everything Pak.

These three entertainment packages are designed to appeal to the majority of Dishnetwork North Carolina's subscribers.

If you really want to get the most out of your home entertainment system, High Definition (HD) entertainment packages from Dish TV North Carolina are definitely the way to go. High Definition Television programing has the wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio, high resolution picture, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, that your need to get the most out of your high definition television set. Dishnetwork NC's high definition television entertainment packages contain a variety of channels devoted to older movies that have been remastered to meet the high def standards as well as a variety of newer programming that was originally produced in high definition. The new programming includes news, extreme sports, world cultures, video gaming, concerts, science, normal sports, home improvement, and much more.
