Just after I decided to post this, I had a thought. Why are we so enthralled by tragedy? Is it just us as Americans or is this common in other countries and cultures as well? Kennedy, Elvis, Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and of course... Marilyn. Are they remembered for who they were or what they signified? Are they remembered for what they contributed to our culture or for their symbolism of an era? In fact, maybe it was all of those things.

NFL star Jonathan Babineaux has joined forces with the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter to help raise awareness for lupus, one of the least recognizable and most misunderstood diseases affecting 55,000 Georgians and more than 1.5 million Americans.

Jonathan, who was recently inducted into the Port Arthur Hall of Fame along with his brother Jordan who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, through their Babineaux Brothers Foundation have been sponsoring fundraisers in their hometown of Port Arthur, Texas, to benefit lupus research for four years. Jonathan is now assisting Georgians living with lupus by helping highlight the programs, services and events provided by the Georgia chapter.

The Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter (LFAGA) is the only statewide valuable resource for lupus patients, providing thousands with educational information, physician referrals, resources, support groups and educational programs. 90% of every dollar raised stays in Georgia to support chapter programs.

Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, the LFAGA is hosting its first annual “Drive for Lupus Now” Golf Tournament at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club with PGA Tour’s Jason Bohn and Mark Strickland, the 2007 Georgia State Golf Association, Player of the Year. The original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” which ran for 10 years, had kids dealing with a host of issues, including abortion, addiction, eating disorders, homosexuality — even mother/daughter fashion shows gone horribly wrong.

To prepare for the role, Wilds had to watch the full run of the original show, but found it too female-oriented for his taste.

“I keep my manhood intact,” he says, only half-joking.

Wilds says he expects the new show to be edgier, wilder and more in tune with the experiences of today’s teens."

Harry takes on the job of West Beverly’s Principal.  You can imagine what happens when Kansas culture tries to mix in with Beverly Hills culture. 

If the first episode is any indication, 90210 is certainly on its way to be much better than the original 90’s version Beverly Hills 90210.   The writing and plot lines are already a knotch above the original. Shenae Grimes is likable and believable as the transplant from Kansas thrown into the wonderful city of Beverly-OZ!  Tristan Wilds brings a sincerity into his role as an adopted son. He and Grimes play well against each other as a brother and sister.

Rob Estes and Lori Laughlin are graduates from former soapish dramas and with Jennie bring a connection to similar shows from the last decade. Shannen Doherty and Joe Tata ( from the Peach Pit) even show up.

Jessica Walter is hilarious playing Shenae and Tristan’s grandmother. She adds the perfect comedic relief and is brilliant in her role.

One Tree Hill started its 2008 season on the CW following last year’s 4 year jump into the future into the lives of the main characters that have become part of the popular teen drama genre that debut in 2003. 

This helped the stories catch up to the aging actors who were already actually into their 20’s and adapt more mature storylines. The first episode this season found Luke ( Chad Michael Murray) finally selecting from a trio of women that he has loved , his original love , Peyton (Hilarie Burton) to propose to “again” and set off to Vegas to propose.  Brooke (Sophia Bush) is in a head to head battle with her conniving mother.  Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Nathan (James Lafferty) are finally settling into some normalcy with their young son after a tumultuous year. Nathan’s father, Dan (Paul Johansson) has been kidnapped by a maniacal nurse after being hit by a car.

Johnny Depp, star of 'Pirates of the Caribbean',  was first seen vacationing on his yacht with Vanessa in the Mediterranean near the island of Elba.  Elba is Italian just of Sardinia  - between the French Island of Corsica and the Italian mainland near to Pisa, Tuscany.  Napoleon Bonaparte was famously was excelled there.

Johnny Depp actually owns the luxury motor yacht and he called it Vajoliroja.  It was built by Proteksan Turquoise was built in turkey in 2001 and is a large modern classic luxury superyacht 47m (156ft)  long.

The name Vajoliroja is a combination of Johnny's family's names. Va for Vanessa, Jo for Johnny, LiRo for his 9 year old daughter Lily Rose and Ja for his son Jack. It sounds like ‘The Jolly Roger’ if you say it just right.

Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp have been in a relationship since 1998. Vanessa Chantal Paradis is a French singer and actress who won the 2008 Victoire De La Musique Female Performer of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.

The cast members have become a mainstay in young celebrity Hollywood which has made the CW even more entrenched as the breeding ground of the young and beautiful of the showbiz industry. 

For the few not familiar with the show, it centers on a few elite young people in the upper echelons of the society in New York City.  The show is actually based on a novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar.   

The first episode of the new season shows the characters maturing to some degree. However, there are some over the top surprises like the guy who was supposedly American who was brought home by Blair Wardorf (played by Leighton Meester)  to make bad boy , Chuck Bass,  ( Ed Westwick)  jealous. Later you find out he is a British Lord  and not  a social climbing scum-bucket.   

The first episode of new season scored its best audience ever -3.4 million viewers. 

Blake Lively who plays Serena van der Woodsen; Chace Crawford who plays Nate Archibald; and Penn Badgley who plays Dan Humphrey are stand outs in the cast. The show was developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. It Airs on Mondays on the CW at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/ 7:00 p.m. Central.

An essential characteristic of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero, and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When he wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic that Superman stands alone. Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses, the business suit, that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race. Sort of like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plympton.

I got up at around 8 a.m. (which for me is sleeping in) and went for a run.  The weather was just gorgeous!  Once I was back home, I settled down in front of my computer with my perfect cup of coffee (the day's special was cappuccino) and started working on a variety of Playing Bare things like media reminders and program revisions.  Then I hopped in the shower before heading downtown.  There I met with a lovely lady who carries Iron Sticks (though not this day) just to bounce off some ideas and get a feel for story structure when writing a one-person show.  I followed that up with some shoe shopping with a friend for a fancy-schmancy gala I'm suppose to attend in two weeks and then more Evolution/Playing Bare stuff.  I ended my evening by reading through the script for my upcoming professional theatre debut and catching up on some TV shows I have sorely missed in the past few months.

Bliss, right?

My point for yammering on about all this:  Today I'm back at work and I can feel a distinct shift in my mood from the previous day.  I've gotten a lot done, but my thoughts keeps wandering to other, more important (in my mind anyway) things.
